guidelines may reflect that, but they may also differ based on whether or not you're vaccinated >> the cdc will be coming out with updating their guidelines of what people who are vaccinated can do and even some who are not vaccinated certainly what one can do outdoors vis-a-vis masks is going to be one of those recommendations. it's common sense to know that the risk when you are outdoors, which we have been saying all along, is extremely low. if you were vaccinated it's even lower. >> reporter: now dr. fauci also says that if we continue at the current pace of vaccinations we could be reaching a turning point, not within months but within weeks not broad immunity but he does think the number of new cases, hospitalizations and deaths will drop significantly problem is, 8% of people are not returning for their second shot. the government's trying to

encourage that but due to low demand, some states are asking for less vaccines. some are rejecting those new vaccine shipments as they come but people just aren't showing up for the shots. >> pretty sure the rest of the world would not let those go to waste. tracie, thank you. america's inoculation efforts are facing new trouble as a demand for a covid-19 vaccine is plummeting. nearly 30% of the population is fully vaccinated currently the u.s. is averaging 2.7 million shots a day. that's the lowest level since may 9th. some super sites are shuttering their doors. >> reporter: the johnson & johnson may have been lifted but demand for vaccinations has plummeted at super sites equipped to inoculate thousands, the surge is slowing while in states like ohio, texas and florida some sites are closing the cdc says the average number
