good tuesday morning. thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. we're watching your forecast as things cool down a bit, but there is plenty of heat to go around again for you today. a live look this morning. meteorologist kari hall's forecast is coming up for you in eight minutes. cierra johnson where two asian-american women were stabbed. what are investigators saying? >> reporter: yes, good morning. those two women, one 85 and one 65 years old were simply waiting for the bus at fourth and market as mentioned, a busy intersection where an individual

came up behind them and stabbed them. here's what we know about their injuries. an official with the city says one of the women was slashed across the back and elbow, another through the arm and to the chest. that woman needed surgery to treat her injuries. both were transported to san francisco general. police were able to locate a weapon and using security cameras in the area, were able to locate the 55-year-old san francisco man suspected in the stabbings, about two hours later they found him on the 600 block of eddy street. right now police are not ruling out that that stabbing was a hate crime. they're not considering it a hate crime rather but also not ruling it out. we will continue to follow this story bring you updates on charges brought against that individual as well as updates on the 58-year-old and 65-year-old women stabbed in the neighborhood. we're live in san francisco, cierra johnson for "today in the bay". >> thanks for the latest there, cierra. police in san jose looking

for a driver involved in a deadly hit-and-run, this happened a little before 10:00 last night in south san jose, on koozer road near princeton plaza mall. video from the scene shows what appears to be a mangled segway device. police are not saying if the victim was riding it before being struck but say the victim was a pedestrian. also new for you this morning, richmond police are asking for help solving two deadly shootings less than 30 minutes apart. they happened on april 27th the first 7:00 p.m. on south?÷ seco street and about 15 minutes later, responded to another shooting at an apartment complex five minutes away. in both cases, the victims died in the car. it's not clear if those shooting are connected. turning to our climate in crisis. before you water your lawn or your plants, you may want to check for new rules placed in your area because of the drought. there are restrictions in the

6:21 am
here is a look at our high for san jose, reaching 84 degrees, and east san jose will top out at about 85 there. there will be some low 90s for the east bay, just not as many as yesterday. so we'll see a high of 91 in antioch and you'll feel a little bit better in martinez, reaching 84. oakland really gets to cooling across the bay with a high of 70 today, and we only stay in the upper 50s along the immediate coastline so daly city sees a high of 58 degrees. we'll see upper 70s for palo alto and redwood city. in san francisco, some mid-60s and sonoma today will reach 84 degrees. so we do still have high pressure but it's moving on. it's going to make way for some cooler temperatures and storms to pass to the north of us. and then as we go into the weekend, just starts to heat back up again so we do have a lot of changes ahead, two days of some spring-like weather and then it heats up for the weekend. take a look at our valley forecast, for spots like gilroy
6:22 am
and santa rosa reaching into the mid-70s for tomorrow and on friday but the weekend we're reaching back into the low to mid 80s while san francisco for the most part stays in the 60s, just a little bit warmer by sunday. mike, you're watching the bay bridge, is it still backing up over there? >> yes, kari, no pleasant surprises like that. however, we do have changes over in hayward, first we'll start with that, southbound 880, that crash at wynton, chp just cleared it from their report so that means the lanes should be clear but i see more slowing, probably sensor lag as folks slow, chp cleared the scene. i'm going to guess that we're going to track it, slowing coming off of 238 but the castro valley y looks great. more traffic toward the san mateo bridge, holds up with the pattern in the chp report. slowing starting for san jose once again in the circled area for 101 and slowing through concord as well, really kicking in for highway 4, pittsburg and bay point actually just before you get to concord. and a look at the bay bridge

toll plaza, there we go, the slowing but now we spread out to all the lanes, so we're getting back to our typical pattern which is good or bad, depending on how you look at it. back to you. >> thanks, mike. if you're sitting in it, it's not very fun. >> not at all. 6:22. we'll keep it moving for you this morning. next here on "today in the bay," "nbc bay area responds." >> if your vaccine record card has an error on it, don't worry, you can fix it. i'm consumer investigator chris chmura. we'll show you how, next.

"today in the bay's" kris sanchez's live. >> "today in the bay's" kris sanchez -- >> that starts with making the vaccine more accessible. >> reporter: yes, so vaccine rates we've been talking about this have been declining across the country and here in the bay area, which is not completely a bad thing, it just means so many people were eager and able to get their vaccines early so now we're talking about reaching out to folks who couldn't get a vaccine up until this point or hesitant.
6:33 am
the next to goal to get 70% of americans with a first dose by july, making more vaccines available at wa local pharmacy kids 12 to 15 years o fda authorizes that, which could be within the next few days. on the "today" show this morning, dr. anthony fauci talked about what that 70% mark will mean. >> when you get to 70%, you are going to have a substantial impact on the number of cases per day, which will translate into a diminution in the number of hospitalizations and deaths. and you'll see what we can do as a society the guidelines restricted at a certain level are much more liberalized and people will be able to really approach getting back to some form of normality. >> reporter: so another part of that 70% strategy is shifting away from the mass vaccination sites like levi's stadium and the coliseum there in oakland
6:34 am
and toward pharmacies and then local vaccine locations, where people can get them within their communities, without having to make an appointment. there are a few of those going on today. stanford clinics will deliver second doses in san jose and contra costa county, me toe homes elementary school in concord and ambrose recreation center in bay point, open regardless of residency. after the benicia senior center the pfizer vaccine the one teams have to get up in this point, the only one approved for 16 and 17-year-olds by the fda. laura and marcus? >> we have the kids in the 12 to 15 group, what we know about that safety. we know the trial no, sir children have actually gotten the vaccine, they haven't gotten tick, those who have gotten it,

ten in the pla see fwoe group got sick. >> laura and make have kids within the age range group. parents are eager to get their kids vaccinated 12 to 15 if they can go back to the school in the fall comfortably and participate in youth sports. the kids in that test group none of them got covid after having the vaccine, but ten kids in the placebo group did get sick so we know that it is very effective in preventing covid. you might be wondering what about the long-term effects. the mrna vaccine is very new, it's the first time it's been approved for widespread or not aed of pro, authorized for widespread use, but it has been in clinical trials for years. ontological studies are using the mrna vaccine for about ten years, new to us now and using it to combat infectious disease

trials in that regard for three years so it's new to us but it is not new to the science community and at the end of the day, every parent has to make the decision that they feel comfortable with and they can live with for their children. >> absolutely, i'm sure a lot of parents will be thinking over that in the next few days and weeks. kris, thank you. >> reporter: we'll be talking about it. in the meantime, the desperate covid situation in india continues this morning. at least 218,000 people have died with the country experiencing its worst surge of the pandemic. hospitals are running out of beds and oxygen. the u.s. is providing help, 545 oxygen concentrators are in new delhi thanks to an air force cargo jet, it's india's fifth coronavirus shipment from the united states and a train carrying 120 tons of oxygen also arrived in the country yesterday. meanwhile, l.a. mayor eric garcetti he is soon to become possibly a u.s. ambassador to india. sources tell nbc news the mayor
