washington where the president is expected to speak about the economy. chris, good morning. what can we expect today >> reporter: phillip, look for the president to cite the nation's vaccination program and declining covid cases as some of the reasons for continued economic growth in the u.s. right now when he speaks later today. he'll also make a case for keeping the momentum going bypassing his $2.3 trillion infrastructure bill. he went to louisiana to make his pitch directly to voters, many who didn't vote for him. he lost the state by more than 18 points last november. the president insists the plan will increase american manufacturing, american jobs and will modernize the american economy. republicans say all of that can be done for a much smaller price tag, about $600 billion. >> i can't imagine that there's republican support for bringing socialism to america it means mortgaging everybody's future in order to do what fund a bunch of liberal pet projects. >> i'm ready to compromise what i'm not ready to do, i'm not ready to do nothing.

apparently there was a male customer who was disgruntled about a prior transaction with the bank and a prior dispute. >> mcnear ri who has had previous contact said to call the fbi. no injuries were reported. now to a terrifying incident at an idaho middle school. police say a sixth grade girl pulled a handgun out of her backpack and shot two students and a staff member a teacher was able to take the gun and held her until she was arrested all three victims are expected to survive but may need surgery. it was a harrowing morning for school children near columbia, south carolina a u.s. army trainee got on the bus with a rifle and held them hostage. the rifle was not loaded and believe it was all a desperate attempt to leave training and

get home to new jersey surge at the southern border local, state and federal officials are being pushed to the limit with a record number of border crossings. our gabe gutierrez got a tour of the border patrol crossing in texas and he shared with us what struck him most. >> reporter: phillip, good morning. this is a processing facility in gana, texas. we were given a firsthand look inside, while it is not chaotic, it is still very busy. there are more than 800 migrants that is over covid capacity and it is unaccompanied children and some families in here as well. no adult men the border patrol agents in this region say they are still overwhelmed. there are still a large amount of migrants coming to this area even though the biden administration says the wait time for these migrants in these types of facilities is down dramatically in fact, the average time in one of these facilities is now about
