weather alert, all of these areas shaded in red continuing in that red flag warning which means that the brush is very dry. we will have some high winds again today, and low humidity, so any fires that could get going could spread rapidly with these conditions continuing, so we do have to be really careful again today as well as tomorrow as our winds pick up. we have this dry northerly wind, and for the most part of the morning it will be about 10 to 15 miles per hour, getting stronger later today and for more on that, let's head over to laura. >> we're talking about the red flag warning this morning due to dry, hot, breezy conditions as well. the warn something now in effect until tuesday, we spoke with one couple who recently moved to american canyon, they were forced to evacuate during the scu fire in san jose last summer. they say they understand the danger >> actually we do construction to every time you know there's a

except solano has 50% of the population with at least one dose. herd immunity may be a long way off due to global immunity, a key component being unattainable for a long time, due to limited vaccine access in other parts of the world. they say life can return to normal if enough people are vaccinated. with more and more people getting the vaccine, we are seeing an increase in travel plans for summer getaways. join me is dr. sapriya narashimhan. >> good morning, it's a great day. how are you? >> right now a lot of people are making plans for summer vacation because so many people are getting vaccinated and we've seen a good number right here in california but do you think that
4:35 am
we've hit a wall because we're seeing less people getting vaccinated nationwide? >> yes, that's a great question. in california, i think as you know, in santa clara county we've had about 70% of adults getting at least one dose of the vaccine, 45% vaccinated. california on average has 50% of adults received one dose of effective vaccine and 33% are fully vaccinated. we did see a little dip in the vaccination rates right when the johnson & johnson pause was announced, understandably so but what the public needs to understand is this was the system working as intended. when vaccines are released we know there are some side effects or some associations that are so rare, they happen one in several thousand people, and they're not going to show up in studies. the fact that they were able to pause it, they were able to study it, they were able to
4:36 am
safely conclude that the vaccination can resume, it shows that the system worked as intended. even though we did see a dip around that time, the vaccination rates have picked up again and currently we're having a 95% rate in our vaccination sites around the county to locally i am cautiously optimistic we will not hit a vaccination wall but you're right. we have to look towards equity in vaccine distribution, if we do hit a vaccination wall in certain communities or certain parts of the united states, we will see continued transmission in those pockets and that transmission allows for variants to emerge so it's very key -- >> a lot of great information there from dr. narshimhan. at 5:30 we'll talk about summer travel. a lot of you are expected to travel this summer. what you need to know before booking that getaway. a reported reprieve for

4:48 am
this red flag warning continues, for all of these areas shaded in red, up until about 6:00 tomorrow evening. looking at high wind gusts at times where we see bright colors that's where we'll have the highest winds and notice it's over some of our north bay mountains, east bay hills and central valley. winds are coming from the northeast blowing offshore. we see the winds coming in from the ocean that brings in slightly higher humidity but that doesn't happen until tonight and we see it turn right back from the north as we go into tomorrow, so it's going to be another hot and dry day. look at our relative humidity that we're expecting during the middle of the afternoon in the single digits in parts of the north bay, that is extremely dry, and we have hot and dry conditions it basically acts as a hair dryer, can dry your hair out quickly but also it's drying out the brush. we're looking at temperatures in the 90s in the valleys today and parts of the bay will be in the 80s. so we're seeing this high pressure moving on by the end of
4:49 am
the week, we'll see a lot of changes ahead with some gusty winds, and some much cooler temperatures moving in by the weekend, but still as we go through this forecast, no rain, so we are looking at some temperatures that will change but our sky condition not so much. so we're looking at highs in the 90s today and tomorrow. by the weekend, we go from the 90s to the 70s. i cannot wait and hopefully we can reduce our fire danger as well. mike, how is it looking for the commute? >> unfortunately i have reds for my report because of breaking news. alert for 580, the good news in richmond it cleared from 580, there was a crash in lanes and they've just cleared all lanes of a crash no more slowing off the east shore freeway headed to the richmond bridge. the rest of contra costa moves slowly. southbound 101 at san antonio the exit may be affected with one lane blocked and the slow
