>> good morning, it's a great day. how are you? >> right now a lot of people are making plans for summer vacation because so many people are getting vaccinated and we've seen a good number right here in california but do you think that we've hit a wall because we're seeing less people getting vaccinated nationwide? >> yes, that's a great question. in california, i think as you know, in santa clara county we've had about 70% of adults getting at least one dose of the vaccine, 45% fully vaccinated. california on average has 50% of adults received one dose of effective vaccine and 33% are fully vaccinated. we did see a little dip in the vaccination rates right when the johnson & johnson pause was announced, understandably so but what the public needs to understand is this was the
5:08 am
system working as intended. when vaccines are released we know there are some side effects or some associations that are so rare, they happen one in several thousand people, and they're not going to show up in studies. the fact that they were able to pause it, they were able to study it, they were able to safely conclude that the vaccination can resume, it shows that the system worked as intended. even though we did see a dip around that time, the vaccination rates have picked up again and currently we're having a 95% rate in our vaccination sites around the county to locally i am cautiously optimistic we will not hit a vaccination wall but you're right. we have to look towards equity in vaccine distribution, if we do hit a vaccination wall in certain communities or certain parts of the united states, we will see continued transmission in those pockets and that transmission allows for variants

bring thaw detail and work-around and another issue on the peninsula and the rest of your commute coming up. well, good morning, very happy monday to you as well. that fuel pipeline that was attacked by hackers over the weekend is still shut down. more than 5,000-mile-long pipeline moves gasoline and jet fuel from texas up the east coast to new york. hackers infiltrated the system and demanded a ran some to undo the damage, not clear if the colonial pipeline company has paid that ransom but it is clear the pipeline is not open yet. as for gas prices, they're unaffected so far. the rest of the u.s. is warning they could see $3 gas. we wish we could see $3 gas. aaa says a gallon of regular costs on average $4.10 in california, that's up about six cents from last week but the spike came before the shutdown. you can see how low it got in the worst days of the pandemic. california has no gas coming
5:15 am
from the colonial pipeline, in fact, much of the gas we use here is actually oil we pulled out of the ground in california, but if gas supplies get low back east, our prices could go up, because gasoline is fungible, that is you can move it from market to market, seeking the best price. gas is gas. now i've said in the past, no matter who is president, presidents really cannot affect gas prices, either up or down. what they can do is increase supply. we'll talk about what mr. biden is doing to increase supply as we talk politics, in about 30 minutes. elon musk was on "saturday night live" over the weekend. i thought he'd use the opportunity to promote dogecoin, the cryptocurrency that started as a joke. he's been promoting it and i thought as a result of the price of dogecoin would go up because he was promoing it on "snl." in the end he called it a hustle and the price of the cyber

with children ages 5 through 12 and found on average they worked 14-hour days. the average mom started the day at 6:23 a.m. and ended it at 8:31 p.m. no word on how many of those moms had triplets out there. that story got me thinking. i mean, i get up at, we get up at 2:30 in the morning and some nights i don't go to bed until about 10:00 at night. kid's got a lot of homework. >> i was going to say wow, i don't think most moms get ten hours a day off. >> but it's the biggest joy as well. it really was and we get one day to celebrate and it's over, kari, it's over now. mother's day's gone. >> it's already over but it's nice we're continuing that celebration today here on "today in the bay," and at least our weather has been nice during those early hours, but it's been heating up during those afternoons. let's take a live look outside in san francisco, we're going to

wake up to a beautiful sunrise, and we're home schooling of course, we know that's another job right there, and so if you're going to be heading outdoors, trying to find those opportunities for kids in concord to go out and play, better make it early. take a look at this trend, at 11:00, it's already 80 degrees, and then it will be in the 90s today, reaching 92 between 2:00 and 3:00. so yes, the earlier the better, check out the seven-day forecast, it's already up at the bottom of the screen, as we talk about our fire danger today, that continues. we've been saying a lot that we have to be really careful because it's been so windy and those temperatures have been heating up. let's get a look at this wind speed forecast, we have a northerly wind that forces the air offshore and dries out the air, and then we start to see more of an ocean breeze picking uhm when the winds come in from the west, that means slightly more humidity, but we don't see that for long before the winds start to shift in from the north, once again heading into tomorrow, and at the same time
5:20 am
we have single digit relative humidity, so that's really bad for all the vegetation out there, it dries it out very quickly. and this as our temperatures head into the 90s again today with santa rosa reaching 91. san francisco will see a high of 76 degrees and 85 in san jose. livermore reaches 92, we'll see a high of 90 today in martinez. we're watching out for those extremely dry conditions but there will be some changes as we head through the week. high pressure moves on, it makes way for this low to quickly dive on through but at least it will give us a cooler weekend and highs returning back into the 70s. mike, you've been watching breaking news in redwood city. what is the update? >> the worst news i have to deliver, folks who haven't heard this, el camino real is closed because of a crash that killed somebody, closing highway or state route 82 between roosevelt and maple. kris sanchez is on the scene gathering more details as the redwood city police continue the
