in a minute. meteorologist kari hall has a look at the forecast for today. kari? good morning. we are starting out with mostly clear skies around the bay area. as we get a look outside in walnut creek we are going to have a nice cool start to our morning, and it's actually going to be a cooler day. take a look at our trend with some low 50s through about 8:00. and then we start to warm up. that warm-up happens a lot more slowly as we'll see our temperatures reaching into the low 70s. once again the cooldown is under way. so we'll talk more about other changes ahead in our forecast. that's coming up in a few minutes. mike, what's happening as folks get ready to head out for work? >> mostly clear on the roadways as well, kari. minor road work going on here, mostly where you would expect it and you expect it for highway 84. there's that full closure we warned you about, 680 and mission your alternates and 84

will be down possibly a lane. another half hour coming through livermore and past ruby hill. the rest of the bay is clear. back to you. all right. thank you, mike. a 12-year-old girl killed in a shooting in antioch. police confirmed it happened about 7:00 last night at a home along oak haven way not too far from the preserve. they say the girl was found with a gunshot wound in an upstairs bedroom. she died at the scene. police tip are working to identify the suspect and what led up to the shooting. no arrests have been made. starting today 2 million additional people in california eligible for the covid-19 vaccine. the state just giving the green light after the cdc granted emergency use authorization for anyone 12 to 15 years old. >> maybe you, like many other parents across the bay area, are scrambling to make appointments for your kids. as jean elle found out, you may

not even need one. some basic information on family vaccinations. >> reporter: medical experts virtually educating parents about vaccinating children ages 12 to 15. it comes after the cdc granted emergency approval of the pfizer vaccine for teens. ucsf infectious disease dr. lillian brown says it will help protect households and communities. >> it is a way for them to protect themselves for their own health, and we anticipate it will decrease cases in schools even further. >> reporter: some parents asked questions about safety and the rapid approval of the vaccine. ucsf professor of pediatrics reassured them it was carefully studied. >> i just want to clarify the emergency use authorization does involve a really careful attention to safety. and so it does not mean that

fight to bring our party back to substance and principle. and in a fight to make clear that we won't participate in a really dangerous effort that's under way. >> she also says she will continue to fight to keep former president trump out of office. scott mcgrew will have much more from the congresswoman coming up in our next hour. santa clara university still reeling from a stunning announcement that the university president has resigned. an investigation revealed father kevin o'brien engaged in inappropriate conversations with the jesuit graduate student during a series of dinners. in an email to faculty and students he says he entered a program to address his alcohol use and stress management issues. father o'brien became the university's 29th president just two years ago. he presided over president biden's inaugural mass in washington, d.c., the morning biden took office. in a month you can ditch your mask when you are outside.

governor newsom at first saying the mask mandates will mostly be dissolved and then walked back those comments. the governor now says outdoor mask mandates will be lifted june 15th. he believes those indoor mandates will soon follow. one of the people looking to challenge governor newsom in the recall election is in some trouble. the campaign under investigation for using that live wild bear in a rally. take a look at this. you can see it right there. this is a 1,000-pound bear, and they were campaigning in san diego. it turns out that it might be against city law. the municipal code makes it illegal for anyone to bring a wild animal into the city. it's a misdemeanor. and john cox's campaign says it had approval to use the bear from several state agencies and two have appears at several rallies together. in east contra costa county some pretty frightening video of shooters targeting the same neighborhood in pittsburg twice.

you hear it there. this happened at at the housing complex. the first on may 5th. they opened fire on twoen shotsr at another group.those shooters. this morning two people are now accused in the violent mugging of an 80-year-old asian man in san leandro. one of them just 11 years old. the child also suspected in a carjacking. sergio quintana spoke with a legal expert who says it's likely he will not spend any time in juvenile hall. >> reporter: san leandro police say the 11-year-old and a 17-year-old who have been arrested are likely connected to other crimes as well. this is a video of the attack this weekend. you can see two hooded figures struggle with the 80-year-old man when he falls and yells for help. >> help! >> reporter: a third person

walks over and doesn't intervene. you can hear him laugh as he walks back to the getaway car. investigators believe the one laughing wearing the colorful jacket is the 11-year-old. when he was arrested police say he was driving a car that was carjacked in oakland monday two days after this robbery. what's more, police say the group is suspected of a second strong arm robbery last week as well. even with so many possible charges legal analysts say it's unlikely the 11-year-old will even be sent to juvenile hall. >> there have been a number of attacks he's associated with apparently. but at the same time the system of juvenile justice is set up for rehabilitation, not punishment. >> reporter: after the attack the 80-year-old victim talked with the witness who didn't want to be identified. that witness tells us the victim says he feels he was targeted. >> he noticed it's been going on a lot in the bay area, and he said he did feel he was targeted

clouds. not a problem for visibility. so far your bay area bridges are looking good. see how everything else is looking with dom. good morning. i am domimic chu. the dow fell 681 points. that's the worst day since january. the s&p 500 lost more than 2%, its biggest drop since february, and the nasdaq sliding more than 2.5%. the market is diving on inflation fears after consumer prices rose last month at the fastest pace in 13 years. if pricing pressures run too hot for a sustained period it could prompt the federal reserve to raise interest rates sooner than expected. the focus today reports on producer prices for inflation at the wholesale level and the number of people filing for first-time unemployment benefits. tesla will stop accepting

bitcoin as payment for its cars according to a tweet by ceo and founder elon musk citing environmental concerns surrounding the digital currency. musk says cryptocurrencies are still a good idea on many levels. tesla had just started accepting bitcoin as payment back in late march. and boeing has received faa approval for a fix of an electrical issue that's affected about 100 737 max planes. the announcement is a relief for u.s. airlines that have been waiting to resume service on the max before the traditional start to the summer travel season. southwest, american, and united had more than 60 jets removed from service. marcus, laura, i'm not sure about you, but i'm already trying to plan vacations. i hope those planes are in the air flying. i want to go somewhere post-pandemic. >> come on back home and hang out with us. we're vaccinated. >> that's right. >> i will. i will.

hey, everybody, it's thursday morning. let's get up and get going. what else do we call it, baby friday, something like that? friday eve. a live look outside in the south bay in san jose. little friday. little friday. >> lil friday. >> lil, yeah. >> i guess we're looking forward to it. and cooler temperatures coming, right, kari? absolutely. we're already seeing the stratus clouds we see over the south bay that help to keep us cool courtesy of the fog that we have in san francisco. making it a nice and comfortable for much of the bay area for today. let's start in the south bay and high temperatures where we do catch the breeze, the mid-70s and then moderates some in morgan hill, up to 81 degrees there for the east bay we'll see a wide range in temperatures and

then you have to go over the hills. 84 in antioch. it's going to be foggy and in the upper 50s in daly city. san francisco is going to start out with the clouds and fog for the first part of the day. we should see some clearing especially over to the mission district and downtown. we're being looing at low 60s there. santa rosa catching that breeze at 72 but we don't see much of that in ukiah so we're reaching 91 today. it's still going to be hot. we are seeing wide-ranging temperatures and we're looking ahead to the weekend where there could be some spotty light showers. unfortunately, the models are once again backing off on our chance of rain. there could be spotty showers by

late saturday afternoon. most of us not seeing that as we were expecting and this is pretty typical of what we've seen all year long where there still may be the possibility that there could be some isolated thunderstorms, which is not good news. models once again backing off on those chances of rain so only showing a few hundredths of an inch of rain. we'll be watching out for that as we see the temperatures mostly in the low 80s for today for the inland areas and 70s for tomorrow as well as sunday and going into the forecast for next week it's still dry and breezy. we're going to keep it cool here. mike, how is it looking for the morning commute? not a lot of traffic at the bay bridge toll plaza. a little flowing across the map there.

group reopen california schools. the advocacy group's founder is jonathan zachreson, a father of two from roseville. he says the contra costa teacher sent parents this email alerting them she would be traveling to mexico for her son's wedding next week. the email warned parents, while i will be teaching from mexico, some days will contain asynchronous lessons due to travel and limited family activity. >> scheduled asynchronous, assigning homework. >> reporter: zachreson said the teacher has chosen not to return to the classroom this year citing fears of covid-19. >> this sounds outrageous and it is outrageous but the blame doesn't belong on the teacher for the most part. the blame belongs on the institutions that allow this to happen. >> reporter: a spokesperson for the west contra costa unified school district tells us we cannot comment on personnel issues. additionally, any travel outside
