"today in the bay's" cierra johnson live to explain when we could see the mandate end. good morning, cierra? >> reporter: yes, good morning, laura. for about a year it was second nature to grab a mask before you stepped out of the door, before you got out of your car. governor newsom says by next month there's a chance we could be entering a whole new phase of this pandemic life. the mask mandates could be lifted that day. the governor is walking back,

modifying the statement to explain only outdoor mask mandates may be lifted. for indoor activity we will still likely have some mask guide lines and mandates but is hoping sooner rather than later those would be lifted. this move comes as the nation's top doctor, dr. anthony fauci, suggested it may be time to relax those indoor mask mandates as more folks get vaccinated across the country and locally if they decide to make restriction changes based on metrics like we've been doing since the beginning of the pandemic. >> you want to lift the mandate, you can recommend it but a mandate is in the health emergency and will be lifted. what are those metrics? >> reporter: in this announcement about loosening mask rule comes as the governor faces pressure and a recall push. according to a new poll by the institute of government study at uc berkeley 36% of respondents

support recalling newsom and 52% approve of his performance. that approval rating is actually down from 64% in september. as we continue to inch closer to that much anticipated date, we will continue to follow any announcements coming out of the governor's office when it comes to lifting or loosening the mask restrictions. we're live in san francisco. >> cierra, thank you. live now to the oakland coliseum. and this is a nationwide effort to honor more than nearly 400 nurses. including four here in the bay area. that tribute held in the parking lot yesterday. most of the people there are nurses honoring and celebrating their fellow fallen nurses. >> it's heartbreaking all of
