right now at 4:30, brand new work week getting under way. we're getting you ready for it with a live look at the bay bridge this morning. spring-like temperatures returning to the bay area this weekend. will they last? your monday forecast is seconds away. first we want to say good morning to you and thanks so much for joining us. hope you had a great weekend. i am laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. mike is keeping an eye on the commute but first we start out with meteorologist kari hall with a look at that forecast.

kari? >> it was an amazing weekend with such nice cool weather, those breezes picking up and we're going to see more of the same today even though we're starting out with our typical clouds that help cool us down, our natural air conditioning stays in full effect and it will be breezy at times, we'll see those winds picking up but we don't have the high risk of a fire danger because of the high humidity being transported across the bay area. some storms will stay to the east of us, there may be rain, possibly snow for the sierra this week. we'll talk about all of that coming up in the forecast in a few minutes. mike, how is it looking for the early morning commute? >> unfortunately we have a deadly crash that happened overnight. the good news as far as the traffic flow goes it's not affecting the traffic flow as far as lanes northbound 87 at skyport. it appears the car went off the roadway into private property and the issue is being addressed over there but we are following that. it's on the chp blotter

nonetheless, next to sjc, there are businesses nearby and i think i know where the crash is located just off of the freeway. no slowing there. crash getting onto the dumbarton bridge westbound 84 around ardenwood, out of lanes in a couple of minutes. no problems antioch or out of the altamont pass. back to you. >> thank you very much. we start with some breaking news this morning for the second time in days, firefighters are at the scene of a fire at the same east bay church. this fire started overnight in a separate building at christ community church of the nazarene in concord on ashbury drive near clayton road. video shows firefighters removing a cross. the last fire happened last thursday morning, believe to have started from some sort of human activity but it's not clear if someone set it on purpose. in that fire, the roof and a second floor in a separate

building collapsed. bob redell is back at the church this morning and will join us with a live update at the top of the hour. our other top story this monday morning, californians waiting for word, entering the fourth day since the cdc relaxes mask guidelines for vaccinated people. will our state follow suit? >> confusion sets in. terry mcsweeney takes a closer look. >> still concerning, still very concerning, you know, you try to stay apart from everybody and follow the protocols. >> reporter: warriors fans say even if they could they're not sure they're ready to take off their masks in many public situations. >> hard to push our luck with the pandemic still going on. >> reporter: response across the country remains a mixed bag after cdc guidance that fully vaccinated americans can safely remove their masks, outdoors and indoors, not including public

transportation. >> there's no need for everybody to start ripping off their masks. now this is safe, work at your own speed and own family and businesses to remove them when necessary. >> reporter: the decision was driven by science and the basis for future guidance. >> cdc is hard at work saying what does this mean for schools, for travel, for camps, for businesses? >> reporter: nationwide just 37% of americans are fully vaccinated, even as health experts continue to tout the benefits. >> you become a dead end to the virus and when there are a lot of dead ends around, the virus is not going to go anywhere. >> reporter: starbucks joins walmart, costco and trader joe's allowing fully vaccinated customers to drop the mask. 20 states including california have a mandate in place which takes precedence over business guidelines leading to contentious showdowns like this. >> reporter: why aren't you letting me in? >> the state of california and county of los angeles and --

>> costco. >> and costco, not in the state of california. >>. the california business association calling the new cdc guidance a big blow to the safety of nurses, front line workers and patients. >> i am disappointed. i am appalled and i know it is a premature decision that the cdc made. the pandemic is not over. we still have a lot of infected patients, cases are still high. we have patients dying and we still have nurses dying as well. >> the nurses association is asking state leaders not to follow the new guidance. the cdc did take time this weekend to clarify that kids should still wear masks in school. k through 12 students should continue wearing masks and follow social distancing through

the deadliest single attack in the latest round of violence between israel and hamas militant group that rules that area of gaza. >> there was a lot of people who died here, not only here, out there, more places in gaza and palestine died, kids are dying. mothers cried for their kids who died. kids can cry every time because their parents died. >> voice of a little girl. hamas was also on the offensive launching rockets from civilian areas of gaza toward civilian areas in israel. the combined death toll over the last week more than 200. many americans are choosing sides when it comes to conflict in the middle east. people supporting israel gathered in los angeles yesterday. on saturday, thousands of protesters marched in support of the palestinians. yesterday's pro-israel group gathered in front of the federal building.

and of course those travelers arriving atairport. >> now if they can talk my kids into getting shots, that's the key because they're never fans of shots, but it is for the good of others. more temptations now. 4:47. monday morning, hope everybody had a great weekend, it was restful and lovely. weather wise, what are we in for this week, kari? >> more of the same. it's nice that we're going to see the cool weather that we had over the weekend continue today, and so as you're getting ready to head out the door in the tri-valley, we can see you already have a lot of company, and we're going to see the breezy winds continue. we'll start out with our marine layer, those clouds that push inland and keep our temperatures from rising too quickly. we'll stay in the low 50s at least for the next few hours. seven-day forecast is already up at the bottom of the screen and i'm a little congested because i guess i'm allergic to either the olive or the oak trees that are

really blowing all of that pollen through the air. i've had to double up on the allergy medication because it's been so bad recently, but at least we've been spending more time outside and enjoying the sunshine when we get it during the afternoon. temperatures today reaching into the mid-70s in antioch. 75 today in santa rosa. it's going to stay cool and cloudy in san francisco with some upper 50s there and some upper 60s in palo alto. here's what's going on this week. if you will be traveling to the sierra, heads up. there will be some rain and snow in the forecast this week. we're going to see some light snow showers starting on thursday continuing off and on in the forecast through friday and continuing into saturday. we'll see the storm system bringing unsettled weather to the east of us but here in the bay area, just keeps it cool and we'll see some more clouds moving in. so we're looking at temperatures in our inland areas in the low to mid-70s for the next few days

and when we start to see the sierra getting that active weather we're going to be cool and breezy h area. i'm watching that. mike, what a watching that snow talking about in may, of course, but we're looking local the roadways, look at the maps, good news for most of the freeways. looking at green sensors, you're at speed which is great. we had wind registering in the diablo range, in the area mountain house westbound direction of byron highway is right now blocked. a crash between an amazon and safeway truck. crew should be clearing any minute but we're tracking that. we still have that crash getting onto the dumbarton bridge, nothing major and light traffic 101 northbound with the headlights and tl

lights south toward 680. >> thanks for keeping tabs on everything, mike. 4:50. the warriors are headed into the post season play and tournament on a role. they beat memphis yesterday to win the higher seed but the game certainly got close late. the dubs pulled away down the stretch, winning 113-101, securing the eighth seed. steph curry scored 46 points to lock up the league scoring title. >> it is nice to have some sort of an atmosphere in terms of home court advantage with fans in the building going crazy. it was loud in there for how many people were in there and we've missed that for a very, very long time. >> the warriors end the regular season on a six-game winning streak and take on lebron james and the lakers wednesday. the winner moves into the first round. the loser is forced to play a second elimination game on friday. very special night for so many students that have been

through so much during this pandemic. it may have ruled out the traditional prom. >> but some parents in the tri-valley made sure the students got to celebrate safely. here's nbc bay area's marianne favro. >> reporter: different schools roamed the streets of downto celebrating the class of '21. it's not a traditional prom, senior night on main street offered these students a chance to celebrate together with the traditional formals and photos. seniors from amador valley village and foothill high schools roamed through a mile stretch of downtown pleasanton enjoying mini magic shows and posing for caricature portraits. >> good way to hang out with our friends especially because a lot of times because of covid we haven't been able to do that in a while and it's a good thing because we didn't have prom. >> reporter: covid vaccinations were not required to attend, students did go through health screenings toner it the event and were asked to wear masks,

with one exception. if they were posing for professional photos. and there were other precautions. >> we had folks sign up in groups of 100. we and they get wristbands and wristbands keep them innier their group of 100. >> reporter: parents put the event on because they wanted the seniors to be celebrated. many of the students here opted to dine together at downtown restaurants. >> having a ball and a place that we kind of have grown up around almost is just like a good way to celebrate and tie everything together with a nice bow. >> the best thing i'm enjoying is seeing friends, hanging out. we got to dress up and that was a lot of fun. >> reporter: the class of '21, challenged by the covid crisis, finding new ways to make memories. in pleasanton, marianne favro, "nbc bay area news." >> how nice for those kids. looks like they had a good time. coming up next the push to
