very happy friday to you as well. as you plan for your weekend or perhaps you look forward ahead to summer vacation, know that spring and summer of 2021 are going to be the season of shortages. restaurants complaining they can't get their hands on enough supply of meat and other menu items. the "wall street journal" says prices on pepperoni are up 60% over the past five weeks. you may see unusual things on your favorite restaurant's menu, because restaurant owners and chefs are running short of what they used to serve and they're trying to think creatively about what they can serve, what their buyers can get their hands on. this is not going to last forever. earlier we were talking about the humber shortage and how that led to high lumber prices but the high prices encourage saw mills to double their efforts increasing supply, which brings the price down. that's the old saw, pun intentional there, that the solution to high prices is high prices.
6:16 am
one of the biggest shortages is car rentals not just in popular vacation spots but everywhere because car rental companies are moving their cars from less popular locations to more desirable areas to try to shortages of new cars as well as car manufacturers shut down production because there's a shortage of computer chips. the white house says it will not grant car makers requests to be put in the front of the line for new chips. now the one thing you can probably find lots of for super cheap is hand sanitizer, some stores offering a buy one get three deal. a lot of companies ramped up to meet demand. demand has fallen, they can barely give the stuff away and i think that's a good indication, laura and marcus, that all shortages turn into oversupply eventually, so eventually there will be way too much pepperoni in the world. as for restaurants, you know our cierra johnson is looking
