harbor in concord. sergio quintana is live. >> reporter: there is quite a bit of people today. it was not able to reopen last year because of the pandemic. it is a big deal today for all the employees to come back to the work and all the customers who really missed having fun at a water park. >> for those who turned out for opening day, there are a few differences of six flags/hurricane harbor. the water park is allowed to open at 25% capacity and they were booked the whole day. the other differences is masks. since this is a water park, guests are allowed to keep them off while on the rise and while they are eating. being back at an amusement park

and not having to wear masks everywhere is still an adjustment for some. >> it feels okay but it is weird without it but it is fun. >> to me, today it signals a return to some normalcy for a lot of people. not just for our guests but for our employees as well. >> reporter: a few amusement parks opened in the area. all of them have capacity restrictions. hurricane harbor is the first water park to open since the pandemic. >> reporter: those capacity limits will be in place for as long as contra costa county remains in the orange tier. they'll be likely expanded a little bit. of course june 15th will be yet another change because that's when the governor's office says that the state's mask mandate will be lifted. reporting live in concord, i am

sergio quintana, nbc bay area news. a lot of happy families in the south bay as well. the park is not at full capacity, it is a 35% capacity, covid protocols still in place including empty seats on rides social distancing. >> we have been waiting for this. last year was closed so we can't go but this year my son has to go and he's ready to get to the rides. we are good. >> gm says it is key to check the website for any changes on the rides. a new water park calls south bay shore opens in great america that's coming up in two weeks. a live look at the south bay, more thane in vaccinated, in santa clara alone, 1 million people vaccinated. this comes as cases of covid-19

and santa clara reached an all time low. the cdc is investigating a possible link between the coronavirus vaccine and a specific heart problem in teenagers. a small number of teenagers in younger adults experienced something called mild carditis. the condition is an inflammation of the heart muscles that can lead to fatigue and heart rhythm. >> at any given time throughout the year, there are cases of myocarditis are happening. now a large number of teenagers being vaccinated. what we are seeing is the usual number of myocarditis of some of them being reported in the days following the vaccinations.

we don't know the linkages. >> the cdc says they are still in the early cases of investigations and cases linked to pfizer and moderna and slightly more boys than girls. clinics continue to come up with creative ways to encourage people to get vavaccinated. a family day vaccination event in san francisco with free snacks. people got a shot and a chance to win free tickets at the golden gate park and zoo and fine art museums. >> a phenomenal job when it comes to vaccination rates. take a look, this shows the county that have fully vaccinated people from across the state. number one in the united states of america, marin county at 60%.

a little bit more than 60% of people fully vaccinated there and san francisco comes in fourth. not bad in contra costa county. san mateo and santa clara is there, tied for 11th place, 50% totally vaccinated and napa and alameda tied for 12%. sonoma county was way in the back and surging forward with 48%. what this means is seven of the nine bay area ranked in the top 20 vaccinated counties across the united states. we are tracking all the changes big and small when it comes to the pandemic. go to our nbcbayarea.com to see the most recent states and local covid guidelines. not a pretty site, the fire started just before 2:00 before this afternoon between hillsburg and windsor.

it destroyed several cars. highway 101 is back open after being closed for nearly an hour and a half. california highway patrol posted this picture on instagram. you can see there the smoke and the helicopter dropping water buckets. crews were able to get things under control and contained the fire at 10 acres. rob mayeda is here. it is dry out there. a little windy, any relief on the way? we have the dry hillsides and winds at time technically part of an on shore breeze, southeast winds at 13 miles per hour. the issue remains just how dry the hillsides are. most places up around the north bay. the red line is near an all time dry this time of the year. conditions typically see in july. you heard the drought monitor update near windsor and santa rosa scale for drought severity.

you may get a little bit of drizzles on the coast. 40 to start for most of the bay area. chilly start and the afternoon, numbers close to what have today. may not feel like 62 in san francisco and winds still roaring off the ocean and up to 25 miles per hour. 56 in half-moon bay and mid-70s for concord and livermore. the showers we have been watching over the north bay hills over the last few days, into sunday morning clouds and drizzles along the coast. those showers starting to leave the north bay. the system is moving away from the sierra. heading into monday, we'll get temperatures climbing just a little bit. we'll see 80s for a few areas and notice and long range pattern as we go not have stron high-pressure, we still have these systems still barely misses to the north. another one there on friday that may bring a few showers.

straight into space. look a this. taking a step closer of providing space tourism. it can holdup six passengers. unity was carried 45,000 feet by a carrier aircraft and released. rocket engine accelerated three times the speed of sound. that had to be loud. the engine space, unity returns to the atmosphere in a glide and landed on the runway. everything was perfect and the flight was flawless. more than two months away until the summer olympics in toe owe. the olympic torch relay there it is makes its way into japan. there it is, spectators were allowed along the route which were not the case. some parts held without people and in parks and fields because of restrictions. the summer olympics are set to
