and we've got the big winners from last night's star-studded billboard music awards plus, phil mickelson rewrites history at the pga a busy monday ahead. good morning i'm frances rivera. >> and i'm phillip mena. new concerns about the covid amongst teenagers. the cdc is investigating an extremely rare heart condition linked to teenagers who have gotten the vaccine our blayne alexander has the details. good morning. >> reporter: phillip, the cdc has made it clear there is no connection between getting the vaccine and this mild heart condition. and experts are sending a message to parents essentially saying if your child is over the age of 12, they should get the vaccine. with covid vaccines now approved for those as young as 12 and health officials urging parents to take advantage, the cdc is looking into cases of a heart condition possibly linked to the vaccine in adolescents

the agency notes relatively few reported cases of myocarditis, a conditionthat causes inflammation in the heart, noting they were mostly found in adolescents and young adults, most often in males and mostly within four days telephone shot. with this important caveat, that the rates after vaccine have not differed from expected baseline rates. >> there is no evidence that this condition is linked to the vaccine at this time and it's possible that these could be related to other underlying causes, other viral infeblgzs or other causes. >> reporter: still, for some parents already hesitant to get their child vaccinated, it's not welcome news. >> scary, you know you don't know what could happen and how their bodies are going to adjust to it. >> reporter: a recent poll before the findings shows nearly a quarter with children 12 through 15 will definitely not get their child vaccinated another 26% plan to wait and

see. the bottom line, should parents be concerned about this? >> the risk of this condition if it exists is extremely low i don't think there is anything to worry about right now if i had a 12 to 15-year-old i would vaccinate them now >> reporter: now phillip, as for why the cdc put this information out, a big part of it is transparency according to one expert i spoke. to also, the cdc wants doctors to know to look out for potential symptoms but again, the cdc is strongly recommending that any american over the age of 12 get the vaccine and that guidance has not changed. phillip? >> all right, thank you. a rash of violence over the weekend leaving at least 12 people dead and dozen others injured. all of the shootings occurred in minnesota, ohio, new jersey, georgia, and south carolina. the latest shooting happened early sunday in youngstown, ohio police say three people were killed and three others were injured in a bar shooting. this as police have launched an investigation into a deadly mass shooting at a backyard party in

new jersey that left two people dead nbc's lindsey reiser has the latest >> reporter: phillip, we have seen people cleaning up outside this house where the party took place. you can still see a tent on its side, a party that turned into tragedy. a manhunt under way for the shooter after a celebration in bridgeton, new jersey ended in bloodshed. >> 1029 east commerce street, a gunshot. >> reporter: you can see the aftermath of a night of terror flipped over tents and tables, debris scattered everywhere after gunshots sent hundreds of party goers scrambling for safety. >> somebody fired from the woods or came out of the woods it's very tragic and devastating for our whole community. >> reporter: 14 wounded two, left dead. >> it's complete chaos. >> reporter: john fukua is an advocate that works with many in the party. >> 15 to 18-year-olds were having a good time it was a '90s theme party.

some 65 feet to the ground, only to tunnel down the steep slope where it was stopped by trees. we go live to rome claudio, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, frances. good morning, phillip. a murder investigation is ongoing, but while investigators try to find out who is response form this horrific tragedy, what we know comes from rescuers and eyewitnesses they seem to agree the cable car was about to reach the top of the mountain yesterday at 1:00 in the afternoon when something went horribly wrong. one of the two cables snapped. all of the sudden the cable car rolled back and hit one of the pylons, detached and plunged 60 feet we've all seen the tragic consequences of that but now one of the things investigators will have to look at is whether the fact that this funicular has been closed for a very long time before they reopened it to the public because of coronavirus might have something to do with the

malfunction. this morning i spoke to the company in charge of the maintenance of the funicular, and they say they checked the cables extensively in november 2020 they say they found no problems. they also say they completely refurbished and renovated the fernicular in 2016 again, no problem. the only survivor of the crash, a 5-year-old child is still fighting for his life, in hospital i spoke to the hospital this morning. it said he is recovering from surgery, still sedated, still in critical condition frances, phillip >> so terrifying and tragic. claudio, thank you this weekend rallies were held across the country honoring george floyd this week marks one year since he was killed by a minneapolis police officer our cori coffin speaks about the change that has happened since then and spoke to his brother about the changes that still need to happen >> reporter: phillip, good morning. the george floyd movement showed up on the steps here in force on a day that was different than the months of strikes and marches in the streets we saw a
