all of that in just a minute. but first, take a look, the super flower blood moon eclipse, a stunning display in the sky, this is a live look right now. isn't it amazing? the eclipse entered a full totality at about 4:19 this morning. i was out in mylate, but it's so amazing to see and how lucky for you to be up right now us. we'll have more on this amazing overnight lunar sight in a little bit. now we want to get a look at the forecast for you today, kari. not too bad if you want to step outside and look up in the sky this morning. >> yes, we've seen some clear visibility across much of the bay area. here is a look at the map, except for the immediate coastline, where we are seeing the fog linger there around half moon bay but temperatures are chilly if you want to step out and take a look. this is what you'll feel. 55 in brentwood. 44 in napa and 51 in san jose. we also have 51 right now in santa rosa.

we'll talk more about some slightly warmer temperatures for this afternoon, coming up in a few minutes. mike, what's going on right now the early morning commute? >> right now i got to get my daughter to prove she was watching with the eclipse with me. okay, now go back to bed. we check out the roadways, a smooth drive and flow of traffic. there is a car fire reported at san ramon road past the 580 tub lin interchange westbound direction. doesn't sound like lanes are blocked. might be a distraction and the closure for 84 are standard overnight the closures through alvarado niles. back to you. >> thank you very much, mike. so nice to see your little girl. she was probably a wee little one when this was takingat we'r a dramatic move for the city as the leaders there unanimously voting to approve that massive google village. >> the bay area's biggest city deciding to enter a rare mega partnership with a private

company, promising to bring thousands of google employees to san jose and will create an entirely new neighborhood. "today in the bay's" ian cull has more on that planned transformation. >> reporter: it is the largest development deal in san jose history, an 80-acre urban village and tech campus that could bring 25,000 jobs after four years of negotiations, the city council green lit the deal. mayor sam liccardo saying it's a win for everyone. >> the city cutting taxes or fees, no land giveaways. google wanted to be treated fairly and have predictability to follow the rules and move forward. google did far more than follow the rules. they made massive commitments to the community. >> reporter: the google project around the diridon station includes 7.3 million square feet of office pacing, 4,000 housing units, 1,000 affordable retail

space and parks, $200 million for anti displacement efforts and affordable housing. >> one of the most significant and transformative large scale transit oriented developments happening in the entire world. >> reporter: while most spoke in favor of the project some housing advocates expressed concerns. >> in order to offset the rising rents that will be caused by the google plan, we would need 5,000 new affordable housing units and the google plan includes some affordable housing units but only about 2,000. >> reporter: the most vocal opponent has been the san jose sharks saying it might force them to move due to traffic and lack of parking. the city announced a last-minute settlement with the team and google, ensuring almost 3,000 parking spots at s.a.p. center for events during construction and that the sharks won't sue over the project. ian cull, "today in the bay." >> 4:34.

new details this morning in the deadly shooting of a girl in antioch. the suspect now in custody. u.s. marshal yesterday arrested 19-year-old michael dwayne fritz of oakland, now in the hands of antioch police. a 12-year-old girl, khaliah davis was shot and killed may 12th. so far police are not saying anything about motive. a man in sonoma county died from covid-19 even after being vaccinated. the 64-year-old had other medical conditions but health leaders say covid was a contributing factor. the man was not showing symptoms when he was vaccinated. he's now, this brings the covid-19 death toll in sonoma county to 315. also new this morning, the day is set for san francisco students to return to their classroom but there will be a few changes coming this fall. every school in the district will either start at 7:50, 8:40 or 9:30 in the morning. middle and high schoolers will

move to a later time to improve health and academic performance and early release day once a week to help teachers plan their lessons. masks will be required as well. school returns on august 16th. well, if you are up with us this morning, did you take a second look up at the moon? this is video that we just captured of the super flower blood moon, the moon crossing into the earth's shadow, creating this super lunar eclipse. the partial eclipse started at about 2:45 in the morning. the earth blocked sunlight from hitting the moon making it look red and may's full moon known as the flower moon, the moon is closest to the earthduring its orbit, making it appear larger and brighter and beautiful. >> beautiful indeed. scott budman and jeff ranieri have been up all morning tweeting about the eclipse progress. follow them both on social media to get updates on the super blood moon. now we want to show you what

will rely on cameras for its semiautomated autopilot driving system for the model 3 and y. it currently consists of eight cameras around the vehicle with a front-facing radar and dozen ultrasonic sensors. the radar uses radio sensors to detect distance from objects, the move to get rid of radar comes amid growing scrutiny of the safety of what tesla calls full self-craving features following a series of accidents. uber's ceo says the supply of available drivers is getting better as more people venture out after getting vaccinated but there's still plenty of room to go as demand for rides increases. he says pickup times aren't where he'd like them to be and surge pricing continues to go up. last month uber said it would spend roughly $250 million on a one-time package of i have is enives aimed at getting drivers back on the road. uber and lyft expect the supply

and good morning and look at this, the super flower blood moon, a live look this morning, ahh, a beautiful sight to start off the wednesday morning. that means your morning and your day is going to be a little different in a good way, a beautiful way. we start with the team right here for you this morning. thanks for joining us here on "today in the bay." get you started with the day, meteorologist kari hall has a look at the forecast. nice enough to step outside and take a look at the moon. >> yes, but it's been a little bit chilly in some spots across the bay area, so grab a nice warm jacket, spend a little bit more time out there if you can. if not, if it's time to head out the door, here is a look at your morning ahead. so in walnut creek, it's 55

degrees. a very light southerly wind and our temperatures stay here in the 50s, up until about 8:00, and then it starts to warm up. we'll see more sunshine today and the warming trend happens more faster than yesterday. take a look at the seven-day forecast, it's already up at the bottom of the screen as we see some warmer temperatures in the forecast. if you head out for a hike in the north bay, expect temperatures at 8:00 in the mid-50s. at noon it's 73 degrees and 77 degrees as we go into the middle of the day. so not too bad. a little bit of a warm breeze kicking up today for some of those spots, as we get a look at santa rosa, reaching 79, antioch reaching into the mid 80s, low 80s for morgan hill, and san jose will reach up to 77 degrees. as we go through the forecast, we've been talking about some of the showers staying to the north of us, across the region, many more people are traveling headed into the weekend and there may be pop-up showers over the sierra. we're going to have a warmup and

that's what we're expecting especially for our inland spots. look at our concord seven-day forecast going from the mid 80s, cool on saturday, then look at that spike in temperatures on memorial day, reaching the mid-90s. mike, what's going on now the morning commute? >> well, kari, looking toward contra costa county, where we had the latest crash update come in. let me explain as we look at the map, most of the freeways look just fine. you see the accident, the crash here byron highway at camino diablo. the call in to chp says it was a head-on crash so i'm concerned about injuries but also the call says the person didn't actually see the crash so we'll see how accurate their hearing was. we'll hope for no major injuries. vasco, the main route out of there to 580 is at speed, so is everything except for highway 84, a little slowing out of livermore. back to you. heritage month coverage,

fire storm as the team looks to go elsewhere if their new push for a new ball park does not come through. happening now, a new cdc report says while contracting covid-19 after being fully vaccinated happens it's rare and just 2% resulted in death. at the beginning of the month, roughly 101 million adults were fully vaccinated and only about 10,000 breakthrough infections were reported. the majority of the breakthrough infections occurred in women and 27% were asymptomatic. however, 10% had to be hospitalized and 2% died. we'll be right back.
