here, good to have you. i'm laura garcia. mike is in studio as well, vianey in for kari. we're ready for the weekend. what is the weather going to be like? >> a good one. we're going to have similar conditions to what we saw yesterday which was the foggy coastline and further inland plenty of sunshine but look at how warm it is already. 66 degrees in los gatos, 68 degrees in redwood, 60 in concord so we've been starting out with the very mild mornings and the temperature trend right now shows it's definitely going to be another warm afternoon, but remaining comfortable overall. we'll be in the 70s. i'll have the full forecast coming up in a few minutes. let's check in with mike. >> we'll look at the golden gate bridge for a live look out here, we see traffic flowing slowly here on the sensors. it's not a major problem to we'll stick with our maps and we're going to move on to the next section, where we look at the rest of the traffic flow. there is construction on the north side, but a live shot that i checked out hasn't shown any problems we have here, construction over here for highway 84, typical for alvarado

niles and folks know to expect that for another 20 minutes. back to you. we begin with new mask rules for california businesses. cal osha is dropping indoor mask requirements later this month but still doesn't mean you're necessarily going to be able to take it off at work. >> "today in the bay's" jean elle has this breaking down of the new decision. >> reporter: mixed reaction to the vote here in san francisco office workers say they're ready to leave the mask at home when they head into work but restaurant owners say it's something to consider. as workers return to office buildings the cal osha standards board adopts new mask rules that will start june 15th, voting to allow workers to lose the mask inside only if business owners can prove everyone is vaccinated. workers we talked to say it's time. >> if enough people are vaccinated i guess that it makes sense to make that an option for any workplace. >> well, if everyone is vaccinated and then i don't

think you need to wear a mask. i think that's all right. >> reporter: dr. peter chin hong says it makes sense. >> there will be tons of offices where if everyone is vaccinated, there would be no problem with not wearing a mask. >> reporter: dr. chin hong says it's more complicated for businesses where employees are serving the public. >> so many people visit from other locales, some businesses like restaurants out of town, you can't verify the vaccination status. >> we have to move forward. >> the the owner of aquarina says while it's a relief rules are relaxed, there's lots to consider. >> to think about it, also to probably feel the opinion of the customers, as long as the customer feels safe. >> reporter: cal osha expects the new rules to be temporary, it's forming a subcommittee to make additional mask rule changes in the coming months. jean elle, "today in the bay." those mask rules are just one of many changes coming june 15th, when the state reopens. here are the big ones, businesses will no longer have

to follow capacity limitations, social distancing also won't be required anymore and with the exception of workplace as you just mentioned, you won't have to wear a mask in most indoor settings. if you're having trouble keeping track of the changes, that's understandable. we've got it all clearly explained for youin after being shot in solano county. vallejo police say officers responded last night to a shooting on caldwell avenue not far from hogan middle school. not gotten a lot of information besides that this morning. police say at least three victims were taken to the hospital. of course we'll continue to follow and bring you updates. now to continuing coverage of its mass shooting of the vta rail yard. the transit agency's board in san jose is taking time to honor the nine victims during its first meeting since the violent incident. vta is also deciding what to do with the buildings where the shooting took place. district says during the past year, it created virtual activities and did family wellness check-ins to make sure students were coping while learning at home and plans to expand its mental health services this fall to help students readjust to the classroom setting. and nascar returns to sonoma this weekend. the toyota savemart 360 is this sunday, allows 15,000 fans, making it the largest sporting event in the bay area since the start of the pandemic. the number of safety protocols will be in place to keep everyone safe. >> fan safety, community safety, we don't want to put any indue stress on our local community. we have all the things in place, all the protocols in place so i'm feeling really good about it. >> and because of nascar's covid restrictions this year's race will be a one day event. theres know practice or qualifying. drivers will literally show up and race on sunday. >> start those engines. will the weathervianey has .

>> it will, if you like sunshine, clear skies, temperatures still a little warm but in the 80s no, triple digits which is good. we'll be seeing 80s up in the north bay. santa rosa 83. napa also in the 80s and then as we head in towards the south bay, we've got upper 70s. now, this is sort of going to be a copy and paste headed into sunday and as well as saturday for san francisco, i'll have the full forecast in a few minutes. check in with mike. >> out to the roadways, overall things look good. we have the construction heading down through los altos hills, may be slowing for the cruise on 280. haven't heard about delays or problems. the closure through alvarado niles, 680, mission is your alternate to get around this either way, just a couple more minutes. so if you're not home watching us, which are, might be clear by the time you get there. the nice drive through the travel times, longer drive for highway 4 out of antioch and live look shows you the bay bridge, low clouds touch the tops of the towers but doesn't affect the drive.

struck. and stocks closed lower yesterday as gains and shares tied to the reopening were offset by declines in technology stocks. apple is reportedly working on a new version of the ipad pro with wireless charging to accommodate apple will sw itch to a glass back for the new model instead of the aluminum backing found on every current ipad on the market. the company may also include reverse wireless charging which would allow the ipad itself to be a charging point. united airlines reaches a deal with flight attendance union on a voluntary vaccination program which would include record keeping. the union says it expects some countries to make it mandatory for flight crews to be vaccinated and maintaining records would allow united to officially meet those requirements. the voluntary program doesn't require flight attendants to be vaccinated but those who choose to get a shot will receive up to three days of additional vacation. i wish that applied to everyone everywhere. back to you guys. >> vacation, what's that?

hey everybody. it's friday morning. we're taking a live look outside, san francisco right now, looks like folks making their way across the bay bridge span, already up and out the door maybe. can you get a little jump on that weekend? not a bad idea. we're up, at least. >> that's right. >> 4:47 in the morning. vianey has a look at our temperatures for today. a cool start to our morning but a nice finish? >> it really is a cool start which sort of helps keep temperatures at bay in through the afternoon, so i want to start out with this gorgeous shot of san francisco, look at

that, we've got trees in the shot, we've got the bridge in the shot, so let's take a look at how the temperatures are, as you head out the door, because really, we've got 50s, 60s, even a couple of 70s in clearlake. 71 degrees, we've been having these mild starts to our day but don't be surprised if we start to see the fog once again roll in around the coastline, keep that in mind. as far as the 24-hour temperature change, no huge differences but we are running a few degrees warm sore what's going to happen is we have some high pressure that's going to start to bump up those temps just a little bit headed into tomorrow and sunday, and we've got another cooldown on the way. let's look at the temperature trends. notice in the icons, it shows a little bit of cloud cover, remember i mentioned it's going to start to probably creep in, not going to be cloudy. we still see some clearing but look at the daytime highs. 67 degrees for oakland, 86 in concord, upper 70s through the south bay and around half moon bay and san francisco 65 degrees. i do want to give you a look at the latest drought monitor

because this was released yesterday and it shows unfortunately that about 26% of northern california is under an exceptional drought which is the d4 category, the worst drought which means we need rain but long range outlook doesn't look that way. it looks like we'll keep that high pressure in through the weekend and we get a system that passes just to our north, that's going to help cool us off into the 70s for next week. mike, how are the roads? >> looking really good. it's only 4:49 on a friday, so light traffic. the slowing we see approaching the golden gate bridge again that may be a couple slower vehicles as they get ready to clear the overnight crews, golden gate -- dumbarton -- the bay bridge, i know which one this is, arrow showing you green sensors no, major problems. convux alvarado niles colleague up in five to ten minutes. on friday we like to finish our work on time. the south bay is a smooth, easy drive no, major problems here.
