and same on june 11th. on june 15th the state will draw the names of ten vaccinated people to win $1.5 million apiece. if you have at least one dose, you will be automatically entered into all of the drawings, if you win, the state will call you on the number that you gave when you got your vaccine. will you have 96 hours to respond. 2 million californians will get $50 gift cards. vax for the win the governor says is a thank you to the community. some people say it's unfortunate the incentives are necessary but they could work. >> i'd hate to see people do it just for the money, but i think it's important to keep our community safe. >> kind of wonder what people's logic is that they aren't just going to do it anyway. >> reporter: it may be a thank you but it's also a what are you waiting for? vaccination rates have slowed and as of yesterday, 57% of

are falling behind the rest of the state. that's leading to cases to rise some places. "l.a. times" analyzed the lowes vaccination rates were likely to have higher recent case rates. health officials in those counties say many residents are hesitant to get vaccinated. tahama say only 25% residents received a vaccination. napa county health leaders are reporting their first covid-related death of someone who was fully vaccinated. the woman who died was over 65 years old, she also had underlying medical conditions and had been in the hospital for some time. the u.s. surpasses 600,000 covid deaths. that's close to the population of denver, colorado. according to the report last month, day compiled by johns

hopkins university puts the global death toll at more than 3 million. developing this morning in honolulu, police have made an arrest in the deadly stabbing of an east bay teenager. it happened early tuesday morning moments after a confrontation near diamond head beach in waikiki. police identified the victim as 19-year-old elian de los erta from alameda. an argument between two groups escalated quickly. >> the fight just became a mess. everybody fighting. i seen the guy all in blood, it was terrible. >> bail for the murder suspect identified as oscar cardona is set at $1 million. now to our climate in crisis, nearly all of northern california will be under a significant risk of wildfires by the end of the summer, according to the national interagency fire center. it says the next four months the bay area will be among those in the red, you see there on your maps, meaning a greater chance of significant wildfires

experts are sayive and intensive drought so far this century. >> the dry conditions are completing northern california reservoirs. right now they should be near capacity as the sun is melting the winter snowpack, but with barely any rain this year, reservoirs are about 50% lower than where they should be. state leaders say some places may see record lows by late august or september. if you want to see how the ongoing drought is taking the toll on california, head to our website, nbcbayarea.com, see some of these really hard to believe images whereof we are right now. let's continue talking about the drought, drought-like conditions, no rain, so dry out there. it's so concerning with fire season, we're now in it, vianey. >> the sierra snowpack is completed, about average, that typically helps boost some of our critical

things are. the red is extreme and this sort of red color is exceptional, which is the worst category on the drought index. so let's take a look at how the bay area reservoir levels are doing. again, the lack of sierra snowpack in addition to the lack of rain, we have about 26.9% of historical average for local reservoir, including lexington and coyote as well. this gives you an idea. this impacts our fire season, could mean water shortages and restrictions for the future. mike, how are the roads? >> looking fine. i'm concerned about that drought, the numbers are worse than i've seen in a long time, as you said. looking out to the road wei 6:0 green sensors around the bay. getaway traffic at any time the afternoon traffic kicks in, 2:30 towards sunol and of course today going to really build in

good morning, very happy friday to you as well. it's jobs friday. we got the latest data showing 559,000 jobs added in the month of may. unemployment rate drops to 5.9%. a lot of hiring by restaurants and bars about one out of three jobs there, and a lot of teenagers are back to work. it is two months in a row the number fell short of what economists expected, seem to be a lot of job opens but not a lot of people filling them. some blame it on unemployment benefits, too much money. president biden said he didn't feel that was the case. >> i think the people who claim they find a good and fair if opportunity underestimate the american people. so i will insist that the law is followed with respect to

benefits for we're not going to turn our backs on our fellow americans. >>'s we were talking about yesterday the unemployments checks are big failed to explain why every american who is not working chooses or doesn't choose not to work. it could be a lack of child care as well, likely a very big factor. futures call for a slightly higher open on the stock market. if the jobs number had been higher it's possible investors would have been alarmed, worried fed would speed up its move to back away from supporting the economy. nissan says it had to delay its electric car the aria because they can't get enough chips to build it. it was supposed to go on sale mid 2021. it is mid 2021. facebook changing the rules again, saying it's going to treat politicians posts the same as regular people. if they spread dangerous lies or incite riots that violates facebook rules, their posts will be removed. earlier facebook said it wouldn't police politicians

because what they said no matter how offensive or dangerous was in facebook's opinion newsworthy. facebook's really been struggling to find a cohesive, cogent policy to cover problems. at an address a few years ago mark zuckerberg said facebook wouldn't police speech at all and almost immediately reversed that, laura. >> thanks so much, scott. 6:14 right now. new this morning, tiktok updated its privacy policy allowing the social media app to collect biometric data on users, including face prints and voice prints. the policy explains tiktok may collect data about images and audio in users' post identifying objects and scenery as well as the location of face and body features and the text of words spoken. other social networks use object recognition. covid-19 is making it impossible to finish filming the new "mission impossible" movie.

white sky behind me. 24-hour temperature change. not much change at the coastline. we managed to keep the marine layer for the past couple of days to keep temperatures at bay, keeps the fog around longer but fairfield and livermore still giving you warmer spots for today. something else to keep in mind if you suffer from allergies, a lot of people do especially around the summer, we are seeing moderate to high pollen out there and remember, the allergy forecast is dependent on the ecosystem, so what you're surrounded with and also you, yourself. some people reacted to it, itchy eye, some don't have to deal with the sinus stuff. microclimate forecast for today upper 70s for the south bay, san jose 79 degrees. morgan hill 86 and look at the east bay, because i think the east bay always does a really good job of showcasing all the way from the bay in through the interior valleys, the microclimate changes, look at

that. we go from 60s and you want to head up the highway, hopefully no traffic, mike, go into the 80s and up into the 90s so really you get your pick. san mateo 69 degrees, into san francisco mid-60s and it is going to be windy, now up through the north bay, 78 degrees in novato, 83 in santa rosa and talk about the changes we have coming up ahead. again the sunshine is going to be sticking around for quite some time. we have a cold front that's going to cool us off headed into monday and tuesday. in addition to cooling us off, this is a dry cool front, not going to bring us rain and going to kick up the winds and there is dry brush out there so at least we're not pairing all that dry brush with hot temperatures and wind but any time there's any sort of wind, it also brings an area for concern. monday, tuesday and wednesday we're seeing 70s in inland areas and temperatures dip down into the low 60s for san francisco. mike, how are the roads? >> looking great. easy flow of traffic, dublin

interchange lighter traffic than the monday through thursday. buildup before the merge. that's a little bit of a change, the altamont pass holding steady, same thing for 84, even on a friday lighter traffic, we don't get away from that. getting away from the area the opposite commute san issue early afternoon 2:30, maybe a little earlier, friday getaway is planning a little earlier. san jose no problems. santa clara county, silicon valley, easy drive. up the peninsula, remember on sunday morning from 1:30 to 6:00 a.m. there's a full closure, just above embarcadero between embark dough row and san antonio for the bike overcrossing there, a full closure and may affect you if you're going out saturday night and you stay out later than i'm able to at 1:30, closedown starts about 1:00. there will be a te tour in place, just sunday morning. a little slowing for highway 37 and highway 4. highway 4 concord out of pittsburg and bay point as they add on the time for the top two

another person has tide following sunday's shooting outside of a concert in miami. a 32-year-old woman who had been in the icu died last night, the mother of a 12-year-old boy. brings the total number of people killed to three, the manhunt continues for those shooters. police say they are looking into the possibility a second car was involved in addition to the one you see there on the surveillance video. later today the cdc will update the efforts to vaccinate children 12 to 17. parents may be wondering when the vaccine will become available to younger children. dr. anthony fauci is now cautiously at may happen by thanksgiving with children 9 to 12 the next ones eligible. the pandemic has been challenging for students trying to learn from home. parents say it's taking a toll on their kids' mental health. according to "the examiner" the

emotional health has worsened since the pandemic started. the san francisco unified school district says during the past year, it created virtual activities and did family wellness check-ins to make sure students were coping while learning from home. the district plans to expand its mental health services this fall to help students readjust to the classroom setting. as the pandemic ends, the battle between landlords and renters is heating up. a group representing realtors is asking the supreme court to block a federal order from the cdc barring them from evicting people not paying rent. the group says with the pandemic winding down, the need for an eviction ban is fading. a federal judge has ruled the cdc has no authority to issue the moratorium but an appeals court declined to lift the stay. the moratorium expires at the end of the month. for months, two bay area residents hit a dead end when they battled with a couple of companies on their own. >> they turned to our consumer

the recommendation, workers in workplace settings could shed the mask beginning june 15th. that's when the state fully reopens. businesses would have to first document that all employees have been vaccinated and that no one is displaying covid-19 symptoms. >> if enough people are vaccinated, i guess it makes sense to make that an option for any workplace. >> well, if everyone is vaccinated, then i don't think they need to wear a mask. i think that's all right. >> there will be tons of offices where if everyone is vaccinated, there would be no problem with working inside or at outdoor events of 10,000 people or more given masks for volunteering use until july 31st. i listened to part of the board

meeting call which was held virtually yesterday. a number of people, including business owners, spoke up during that call. one said they are tired of being told what to do. given the low rates of infection, another expressed concern this proposal could pose an unreasonable burden. reporting live, bob redell, "today in the bay." those mask changes are just one of the changes when the state reopens. businesses would no longer have to follow capacity limits. social distancing would not be required anymore, and as we just mentioned, you won't have to wear your masks in most indoor settings. some california restaurants may be toasting governor newsom's extension of outdoor dining orders. that's because he extended california's cocktailsill be ab provide cocktails to go oropens.

buses with logos to the first of nine funerals. the first was a man named abdi who left behind a wife and two sons. >> he attended night school in his native iran to gain skills to pursue the american dream, which he achieved as a substation maintainer at vta. >> the vta says light rate service and bus service will be postponed indefinitely to allow people to mourn. this morning fremont police are warning people about a unique kind of snatch and grab. the thief is stealing jewelry from people. they'll ask the victim for directions or say it's their birthday and want to give the victims a gift. that's when the thief puts costume jewelry on the victims and steals the real jewelry.

police say they want everyone to be on alert, don't be distracted by your phone. the press democrat reports california's finance watchdog has opened an investigation after an anonymous complaint about the mayor. the complaint surrounds how he spent $12,000 in donations and it comes as the paper publishes new allegations made by a town councilmember, implying he tried to buy her out of the race in 2020 which he declined to exit. he offered to donate to her choice of charities which experts actually say is legal. he did not respond to the paper's request for a comment. new delays for caltrain and its plan to convert to an electric train. the electrification process started in 2017.

north bay fires last fall. so it's so nice to see a happy event here now. reporting live at sonoma raceway. i'm sharon katsuda, "today in the bay." let's check those temperatures. going to look good out there at the raceway? >> it will definitely. take a look at the next three days. your weekend forecast for sonoma valley. temperatures will hit the mid-'80s. it sort of starts out with a little bit of cloud cover, but by the afternoon, plenty of sunshine. temperatures remain in those 80s. just remember your sunscreen and plenty of water. even though it's not triple digits, it's still pretty warm. especially out and about, try to find some shade. stinson beach, half moon bay, santa cruz in the 70s. for me 60s are always a little nippy, but 70s is cool. half moon bay 58.

half moon bay tends to wake up with that morning fog. really depending on where you go for the weekend, you can have a nice little range of temperatures, but notice how we remain in the 70s and 80s. very seasonable and comfortable for this time of year. now let's get a check of the traffic with mike. 6:40 sees a light drive around the bay. very light traffic flow right now. no major concerns. i did show you and talked about the bill for highway 4 through concord. that's the delay through fitchburg and walnut creek. highway 37 has always showed that slowing, even in the lightest traffic volume. some slowdown on the east bay freeway. that is a gradual build. the toll plaza has not reflected that build at all. just a little slowing at university and a little at san pablo. back to you. 6:40 right now.

the gop is not on board. we talked more about biden but there's so much news about the former administration this morning. former vice president pence making his first comments about the january 6 attack on the capitol and capitol police. speaking at the reagan-lincoln dinner last night, pence said he and former president trump do not agree on what happened that day. >> as i said that day, january 6 was a dark day in the history of the united states capitol. but thanks to the swift action of the capitol police and federal law enforcement, violence was quelled. the capitol was secured. and that same day we reconvened the congress and did our duty under the constitution and the laws of the united states. you know, president trump and i have spoken many times since we left office. and i don't know if we'll ever

and the employer has to be able to document that for the state. this is just a recommendation from cal osha. they voted on this recommendation yesterday. what they're saying is if you work in an office, you should be able to shed the mask by june 15. this doesn't go for restaurants, retail or anyplace that works with the public. these are private settings. there were many people on the call, business owners who spoke up against these recommendations. specifically they had an issue with the requirement that everyone there is vaccinated. they think this is an unreasonable burden and they're juf being told what to do, so it's now up to the state to take this recommendation and decide whether or not to go with it. if they did, it would be june 15th. napa county health leaders

are reporting their first covid-related death of someone fully vaccinated. the woman who died was 65 years old. she did have some underlying medical conditions and had been in the hospital for some time. there were 32 so-called breakthrough cases among fully vaccinated residents. bart is ready to take it up a notch in terms of full service. next thursday the number of trains running 15 minutes apart will double on weekdays. also more trains will run on saturday. the hours remain the same, 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays. the regular schedule is set to return in august. look at sonoma raceway where nascar fans are gearing up for an action-packed weekend. the savemart 350 takes place on sunday. the fans will be limited to about 15,000. this is still the largest crowd for a sporting event in the bay
