right now at 4:30, mask confusion continues to grow as cal osha changes its tune on masks in the work place. what this decision means for you right before the state reopens in five days. and a violent attack puts a san francisco shopkeeper in the hospital. now his daughter is speaking out about how his life will be forever changed. look at the forecast for us today. hey, and it's going to be another really nice day. we've had some cool temperat let's show you what you'll feel as you get ready to step out the door. yes, you're seeing it right. upper 30s in napa. we do have upper 40s and low 50s elsewhere across the rest of the bay area. as we go into today we're going to feel the temperatures coming up a few degrees. concord reaching 75. burlingame, 65 degrees and some low 70s for san jose. we'll talk about a weekend warm-up coming up in a few minutes. mike, how is it looking for early morning commuters? pretty good, kari. a couple spots to warn folks about. this has been going on since last night eastbound on the bridge. road restrictions going on perhaps until about 6:00 a.m. an earlier issue, a couple of vehicles and the off ramp out of

san francisco. nothing else going on except for highway 84, that closure. we'll talk about that coming up. thank you very much. we're talking about a little back tracking on the maps. cal osha is withdrawing its strict mask policy five days before the june 15th reopening day. "today in the bay's" sergio quintana explains and how we move forward. chairman thomas? >> hi. and the motion passes. to thank their time this evening. >> reporter: this vote means california employers will continue working on t safety rules which still require masks and social distancing at all work places for all employees. they will stay in place until the board can meet again and adopt more relaxed rules that mirror cdc and california department of public health guidance on masks for vaccinated and unvaccinated employees.

that means the masks could come off. christian rojas in san jose says he's going to keep wearing the masks. >> we talked to people and want to make them feel safe and welcome but will still have everybody wearing the mask. >> reporter: his shot is in japantown, a part of the city big on masks since the start of the pandemic. he figures they still have people feel safe. >> i don't actually mind wearing the mask. doesn't cal osha safe will meet againnot meet any soo becpublish

any rules. and here is a reminder on california's new masking rules effective next tuesday. you will not need to wear the masks indoors in places including the grocery stores, restaurants and hair salons. but if you're not fully vaccinated, you will be required to keep the mask on in those situations. masks will be required on public transport including the airport and everyone will have to mask up. >> if you still have questions, there's a lot to keep track of. see what will happen in your community come june 15th. click on june 15th, what to know. it's all in the trending bar. a popular san francisco shopkeeper survives a stabbing attack. but has life changing injuries. family says the long time shopkeeper was considering retiring, but before he called it quits someone came into the market last week and stabbed him multiple times. >> this injury has changed his life forever. >> reporter: katarina yohannes is worried about his future. he survived a stabbing attack but will likely lose an eye. >> he was stabbed in his left eye. and his arm repeatedly and his chest as well. >> reporter: his family says the violence comes on the heels of repeated break-in attempts this is video of a truck crashing into the russian hills store window. yohannes was arranging repairs the same morning when a man who asked to use the bathroom refused to leave the market. >> shoved him and that's when the fight ensued. shortly after he pulled the

weapon out and stabbed my dad. >> reporter: r donating to a go help support him through what is expected to be a long recovery. >> just always smiling and remembers your name. >> reporter: police have a suspect in custody. this is the photo of 30-year-old donovan catron yohannes posted on social media. police issued a crime bulletin with his picture on it after the stabbing. they recognized him as the stabbing suspect. yohannes' daughter says she is relieved the suspect is off the street and her father is home recovering. >> i'm grateful i still have my dad and we can get through any difficulties. >> reporter: jean elle, "today in the bay." 4:36. governor newsom and attorney general will announce new action today in the wake of last friday's decision by a federal judge to strike down the state's

three decades old assault weapons ban. that triggered across california not to mention anger among lawmakers. called it fundamenta in place until they issue a final decision. a southern lawmaker's push to ban gun shows at all state-owned fair grounds recently cleared a major hurdle. the "l.a. times"sed the bill. it's awaiting consideration by the assembly. the bill's author is an irvine senator who is seeking to end an event held at the orange county fair. many fair grounds have ended their gun show events. for people struggling to make it in the bay not to mention the rest of the state concern is growing ahead of a looming deadline. the moratorium is set to expire. advocates fear up to 2 million californians may be at risk of eviction once that ban expires.

it's going to be another really nice day. we have a lot of changes ahead. i love these longer days. you know i love my sun rises and we're less than an hour away from sun rise so will see these longer days. and our temperatures not yet responding to these longer days. today we'll see some mid-70s for gilroy and morgan hill. it's still going to be breezy, at times windy. concord tops out at 75. upper 60s in hayward today. for san francisco expect those temperatures mostly in the now we've had these gusty winds

and it will be breezy as the temperatures drop. first pitch at 6:40 and 61 degrees, cooling down to the upper 50s. a really nice evening for us some baseball. we're going to see the storm systems passing to the north of us. possibly as we are looking at the county and most of it staying to the north of us. we will see some warming ahead as this high pressure starts to build back towards the bay area and that's going to cause our temperatures to spike next week. let me show you the trend. we're in this low 70s. upper 70s tomorrow. we'll have some 80s for the week. take a look at the end of this. 95 degrees. we are getting ready for some big heat ahead and so i'm just

county. 4:51 right now. president biden's goal is in danger as demand has slowed dramatically. >> reporter: covid infections continue to fall around the country as the push for injections is rising. at the current pace the nation will not reach the president's goal of 70% of adults with at least one dose by july 4th. right now we're about 6% shy of it but that 6% could be hard to convince. some are strongly opposed to getting one like a group of anti-vaxers who disrupted congressman huffman's town hall even sitting on the stage at one point and against having to show proof of vaccination in any circumstance. >> my view is in the middle of a

deadly pandemic that has taken lives, it is not unreasonable to ask people before they gather in to crowds to have a vaccination. >> reporter: while california has reached the 70% goal of getting every adult at least one dose, some states are far from it. the bay area demand is dropping off. levi stadium will close as a mass vaccination site on the 24th. others will stay open for first and second doses. the incentives are growing. along with the vaccine lottery program, marin county is offering an additional $25 gift card for people at some sites which they get right after their first dose even though it's the highest vaccinated county in the state. >> if we can rally and reach as high a number as possible the

of oakland's busiest streets could be going away and that has cyclists worried about safety. oakland's department of transportation send the city council recommendations to remove the gray circular barriers and replace them with painted buffers. those protected lanes near downtown. the number of cyclists using those lanes have doubled since 2016. those lanes block visibility. more right after the break.
