g7 in britain for meetings with our 29 nato allies here in belgium. the president temperatures down in brussels last night for the first of two days, his second stop on his first foreign tour you'll remember what happened four years ago when president trump arrived here for a meeting with nato leaders, and he stunned our partners by scolding them for not spending enough on their mutual defense for refusing to even commit to article 5. that's the core of the nato alliance, the agreement to defend one country if any nato partner is attacked now. white house officials are saying president biden coming with a very different message he is going to reaffirm u.s. support for the nato alliance, but also call for updating its mission statement. yes, it will continue to focus on russian activities, particularly in eastern europe but he wants to add china to the mix to focus on the rise of china. also focus on cyber warfare, the increasing front of battle in the 21st century century, and really to also target climate as

well this comes after several days in which the president was warmly received by our allies in the united kingdom french president emmanuel macron among those welcoming, as he put it, the president back to the club, ending last night with that warm greeting with her majesty the queen, the president saying afterwards that she reminded him of his own mother fra frances? >> busy working weekend going full speed ahead. >> a busy week indeed. president biden's busy overseas schedule is all leading up to a face-to-face confrontation with russia's vladimir putin the two leaders set to meet wednesday in switzerland but the recent russian-backed cyber attacks will ikely be part of a big conversation. matt bodner joins us moscow. what can we expect from the high stakes talks >> a lot on the table this week. kind of starting with the nuts and bolts if you will of the u.s.-russia relationship, things like nuclear arms control. i think the big thing we're going hear a lot about is the

situation in cyberspace with hacking, election interference and so on. what is very interesting is that president putin seems to be open to having this kind of discussion there was this interview clip posted in the russian state media just yesterday in which he seemed to suggest that he was at least willing to talk about extraditing russian cyber criminals to the united states now i have to say those were not his words, but just in the context of the discussion, that seemed to be what he was getting at this was certainly heard by president biden. he said that he was open to this idea that we needed to hear a little bit more about it but, you know, it seems that this is going to be a bit of the discussion let's actually take a listen to exclusive interview that nbc keir simmons did with president putin on friday in which he said this is the absolute low point of the relationship. >> we have a bilateral relationship that has deteriorated to its lowest point

together meanwhile, back here in the u.s., more than 173 million americans have now had at least one dose of covid-19 vaccine which equates roughly to about 64% of the population. the country is just 20 days away from president biden's goal of 70% vaccinated adults by july 4th. these new numbers as a federal judge in houston dismissed a lawsuit by more than 100 hospital workers over the hospital's covid vaccine requirement for workers. the judge ruled the hospital system does not violate state or federal law or public policy in the meantime, the u.s. is seeing a rise in covid cases in teenagers. nbc's cory kaufman from new york >> reporter: good morn among younger people, particularly those 12 to 17 are on the rise,

as are hospitalizations. according to cdc data, in the first three months of the year among those hospitalizations, a third of the cases resulted in treatment in intensive care. cdc's director says this is particularly concerning since this is the least vaccinated group among all those eligible to receive the vaccine and it's with groups like children's aid who run the pop-up site behind me are aiming to correct, with more vaccinations among this group. listen here. >> this is a neighborhood where there are several high schools in the vicinity. it's been wonderful to be able to bridge the gap for those youth and their families to come to be able to come and not only get tested, but also be vaccinated whatever you can do to bring that resource closer to the family, the better >> people 12 to 17 make up just 6.5% of those vaccinated in this country so far and while health officials continue to emphasize the safety and efficacy of the vaccine, the

cdc is looking at holding an emergency meeting regarding a growing but rare number of heart inflammation cases of those who have received the second dose affecting people younger than 30, and men in particular. that emergency meeting is set for june 18th. kendis >> all right thanks to cori it was another weekend of deadly mass shootings across the united states. a 25-year-old victim has died from his injuries after a shooting in downtown austin, texas early saturday morning police say one suspect is in custody, but a search continues for a second in chicago, police are searching for two men who opened fire at a group of people standing in a parking lot overnight saturday a 29-year-old woman was killed, and nine others were wounded over the weekend, at least three people were killed and 36 injured in gun violence across chicago. and a manhunt is on in savannah, georgia for one or more suspects after a friday night shooting left one person dead and eight others wounded. the youngest victims are only 2 and 13 years old
