>> it is the first full day of summer. things cool down just a bit. we'll get to traffic in a moment. weather with meteorologist carrie hal. happy monday. >> happy monday. >> happy first full day of summer. more weather like we had yesterday to welcome in the season and we're starting out already with a lot of people on the roads, temperatures in the upper 50s this morning. nice and cool for the start of the day and it warms up as we have another day with temperatures in the tri-valley headed back to the mid 80s, reaching 86 in livermore, but we do still have the 60s near the coast. we'll talk more about a little bit more of a cool down coming up in a few minutes. mike, how is it looking for the commute? >> the temperatures weren't summer. i'm worried now. we'll watch that forecast. looking at the roadways this is summertime traffic. at the altamont pass gentle

slowing. there was a disabled vehicle at stro bridge in castro valley that did clear after an hour in lanes now cleared from the approach to the caster valley. back over to you. we are following breaking news in the east bay. family members tell us a deadly shooting left two people dead. >> this is new video into our newsroom and you can see a large police presence in that area. crime scene tape as well. this is on dunn avenue near 20th avenue and reem. now all we're really getting at this point is that -- what family members are telling us and say that they were actually holding a party to celebrate father's day when someone entered the party and started shooting. we have reached out this morning to richmond police and we are still waiting to hear back from them. bob redell is at a nearby richard police station seeking answers and he'll have a live report coming up in 30 minutes. new details on a separate weekend shooting in the east bay, this time this was in oakland, not far from where

weekend celebrations were happened at lake merritt. >> this marks oakland's sixth mass shooting more than any cit. sergio quintana reports the motive remains a mystery. >> reporter: cell phone video from a balcony shows some of the police response after the shots were fired. witnesses describe chaos following the gunshots. >> what was amazing was the crowd and the surge of people running for safety. >> reporter: one man who doesn't want us to show his face or use his name says he got trampled as people rushed to leave the area. >> all i saw were gunshots and it said pop, pop, pop. after she shot people, then three goonsz, bullets hit the ground five feet away from me. >> i heard around 6:00, the gun shots from the shooting that took place here at the lake yesterday. >> reporter: christopher whitmore lives near the lake, like a few other residents says oakland needs to figure out how to curb the lawlessness and

cities across the country experiencing gun violence over the weekend. take a look at this map. these are some of the other cities where major shootings happened. in louisiana two died and several others died after a concert in baton rouge. in dallas police say two children were among eight shot at a party yesterday. five people were injured in colorado springs. in chicago five people died and more than 40 people were injured in a string of shootings. this week santa clara county is shutting down its mass vaccination site at levi stadium on thursday. the move comes with nearly eight out of ten adults in the south bay having received at least one dose. levi became a vaccination site in february. since then more than 350,000 doses have been administered at that site. here's the latest county by county vaccination rates entering the second week of the state reopening. in marin it's 90% of people over

12 one of the highest rates in the country. the rest of the bay area is in the 70% to 80% range except solano where they sit at 65%. 4:35, and here we go with a look at that forecast for you. kari, like mike was saying after last week you would think we are in summer but no first official full day of summer is today. >> yeah. we've already had the heat and now we're going to have the season to go along with it. but this comes as our temperatures actually are going to be cooling off, so let's get a live look outside in san jose. as we're starting out this morning all clear and it's going to be very much like it was yesterday afternoon, so if you had a chance to get out and enjoy that, expect more of the same today. temperatures in the upper 50s and we'll go from the upper 50s to gradually warming up today, still going to feel nice at noon if you're planning to have lunch outside we'll see temperatures in the mid 70s and then evaentsly reaching back into the 80s again today.

85 in morgan hill and 85 in antioch and napa 78 degrees but we'll be as hot as 90s in clearlake. we will have a cool down by the middle of the week but then warming back up. we'll talk more about all of that in a few minutes. mike, what's going on for the commute? >> a light drive right now and any earlier incidents have cleared, 880, a hit and run at a street, that's cleared the lanes and no injuries there. contra costa county longer drive out of antioch for highway 4 and out of the north bay an easy drive here. surface streets and some activity in richmond. i'll let you know if it's any major concern. the drive times are looking great. a dip below the speed limit, it's a surface street and that's typical. everything is all set. no fog although there was a warning from chp earlier, it's clear now. >> thanks, mike. coming up on "today in the bay,"

he sees higher interest rates as soon as next year and the dow dropping 3.5% over the last week while the nasdaq and the s&p ended the week in the red. in focus for traderers and investors today, this week reports on home sales, durable goods, income and spending and consumer sentiment and unemployment as well. a very busy week ahead. americans are dining out again, but target wants to lure them back to the grocery aisle. the retailer is adding food and drinks to its deal days, answer to amazon prime day going on right now. the discounts run through tomorrow. target will give $10 gift cards to customers who spend $50 or more on groceries using same day delivery or curbside pick-up. groceries are the key reason target sales surged and gained market sure during the virus pandemic. google may be working on an answer to apple's find my phone location feature. 9 to 5 reports a beta version has shown up in the google play

4:46 and do you know your way to san jose? if not look at your screen. there you go. you're there. getting started with our monday morning today. it's time to get a look at that forecast for you. meteorologist kari hall has been tracking that and kari, i can say relief when it comes to those temperatures. >> yes. it was so hot last week and it was nice this weekend, so that kind of weather continues today. let me get you out the door in fairfield. we've had some hot temperatures

here as well, at least we have the cool start to the morning. temperatures in the upper 50s and a few clouds as you head out for your morning drive. as we go into the rest of today if you'll be leaving later, expect those temperatures in the upper 60s. the seven-day forecast is coming up in the bottom of the screen so check that out. let's head to the south bay with a look at our highs for today. reaching mostly into the low 80s here, even though we'll warm up in east san jose, downtown about 82 degrees. for the east bay we're looking at temperatures that will reach into the mid 80s for the most part and we're going to see a slight warmup in a few of these spots as we've seen these highs reaching up to about 86 in livermore, 75 in san mateo and our north bay temperatures will be from 78 in napa to 90s in clearlake. we are still seeing a wide range in temperatures from the coastal areas to the inland valleys that will continue this week. nice little cool down as we get much more of an ocean breeze, but then as we head toward the

end of the week high pressure will be building and as it does so it's going to force our winds off the coast and our temperatures will be heating up. we will no longer have that natural air conditioning. let me show you the trend and a spot like livermore, what to expect this week. we're starting out the week mild, mid 80s. cooling down by the middle of the week and then by the end of the weekend, well, it starts to heat up and take a look at the weekend. before you make plans to head outside, know that sunday is going to be very hot. we're talking back more about those highs reaching into the triple digits once again. as we prepare for the week, we're starting out with our mid 80s. nice cool down, i think wednesday it will be the best day to get outside for the valleys and then it's going to be hot again this weekend. looking at san francisco, we'll be warming up here as well, but at least most of the week we're staying in the 60s. mike, anything new happening out there for the morning commute? >> first of all i know marcus'

question was rhetorical but i'm still going to answer it, if you don't know the way to san jose there's my map. look over toward the north bay and the east bay where traffic tends to start earlier in the commute, easier drive, the incident in richmond where the police investigation continues, that's all it was as far as traffic flow goes, but it's a big deal from the investigation in that shooting. the bay bridge, a smooth drive, with taillights going westbound, nice clear easy drive. whatever was going on for the golden gate bridge that has cleared as far as chp is concerned. look at the toll plaza, smooth driving over here. we have a breeze, no problem. those little flag movement there. back to you. >> thanks. we're keeping a close eye on a wildfire burning in shasta county called the cow fire in the millville area of the county. the good news to report for you, all evacuation orders have been

lifted and no homes were damaged and the fire is 15% contained. a follow-up, authorities in russia arrested a man in connection with the death of a uc davis grad. catherine serou was last seen alive neerl one week ago. over the weekend she was found beaten and stabbed to death 250 miles from moscow. she traveled to russia to study law and "the washington post" reports texted her mother before her death saying she feared she may be getting abducted. the russian man in her death appeared in court and according to his attorney admitted to killing her. investigators are trying to determine if a man and a woman charged in the road rage death of a southern california boy are tied to other recent road rage incidents. marcus ericks and win lee are accused in the murder of aiden leos and he was being driven school by his mother. prosecutors have set up a tip line for other similar incidents involving the pair.

li is charged with accessory after the fact. both have pleaded not guilty. a bay area news group, they want to report suggesting some counties are falling short, the law took effect in 2020, reporters asking 28 counties for information on workplace outbreaks and the bay area four counties you see in the green, san mateo, ma republican, and contra costa provided limited but detailed information, the other five counties did not. 17 counties statewide flat out declined. the report indicates that some counties cited the language of the new law for keeping them from actually releasing those details. other counties cited privacy rights. well, for many dads covid put a damper on father's day celebrations last year, so this year, they're making up for lost time.
