there. >> right. that's the reason why we have this high fire danger that continues. the exceptional drought across much of the bay area and unfortunately due to the dry conditions even with cooler temperatures we have to watch our fire danger for today. the highs, cooler than the weather we've had, reaching into the upper 70s for the inland east bay and low 60s near the coastline. we'll talk about that and what's coming up in a few minutes. >> an easy drive, kari, one crash to call out, this is moving smoothly, the crash is getting off of that richmond bridge from san raphael. a motorcycle involved. apparently took out a posts at the richmond parkway off rahm ramp. it was the one that caught my eye. everything else was very calmly and smoothly through contra costa all the way in toward the bay bridge and the maze. back to you. >> thanks, mike.

we begin with some scary moments in vallejo. everyone is back in their homes this morning following a late night fire. this happening around 9:00 last night and the open space between swanzy court and novone street. not too far from the reservoir. firefighters were forced to evacuate residents. the flames damaging about ten homes. while there is no official cause, residents we spoke with say they heard fireworks going off before the fire started. >> we heard it looked like, sounded like gunshots and then the sparkling, so we knew that it was fireworks coming from down that way. we were wondering, this is the craziest thing to do in a dry season. so that fireworks went on for maybe not even ten minutes and then we heard the fire trucks. then when i looked down there, there was a blazing fire. >> those evacuation orders were

lifted at 10:30 last night. firefighters tell us they're concerned about firework dangers ahead of the fourth of july holiday. this was breaking news that saw all morning here monday iv following a mass shooting at a house party in richmond. the neighborhood is trying to come to grips with the tragedy while city officials are divided about the next step. "today in the bay's" terry mcsweeney with new details. >> reporter: people come to the scene of the shooting, some leave items in tribute to the victims but there's no official word on motive or suspect snooze there was somebody laying right there when i got there. i seen a dead body right there. >> reporter: neighbors in shock and is so the mayor. >> this is horrific. >> reporter: richmond mayor tom butts says what the city needs is more police officers. the department will be down to 145 members, 50 fewer than in 2014. the mayor says more officers with would allow for community policing. >> it builds a relationship between the police and the community and it's especially important in richmond where, you

know, where we have a large immigrant community. >> reporter: there were perhaps 100 people. everyone was invited. >> it appears the party was advertised on facebook and how most of the partygoers found out and actually attended. >> some fwang-related issues that we need to address. >> reporter: richmond city council member jimenez like the mayor wants more boots on the ground but they wouldn't be on police officers. she wants to defund the department and spend the money on other programs such as the office of neighborhood services. >> we are doubling the staff to have 16 instead of 8 and soon going to be working with the latino community. >> reporter: jimenez says millions of dollars for programs instead of police has meant a 66% decrease in gun violence, but right now people are not thinking about the crimes prevented, just this one that

wasn't. >> to the family members, my heart goes to them that lost a family member and also to the ones who are are in pain. >> reporter: terry mcsweeney, "today in the bay." to jobs and nearly every industry with minimum wage workers can't find enough staff to keep up with the demand to work. ian joins us now with a struggle and to fill those positions as well as we inch closer to the end of the pandemic. >> reporter: as restrictions loosen, summer travel is officially back. more than 2 million people flew on father's day, the most since before the pandemic. american airlines says due to bad weather and staffing shortages, it was forced to cancel 400 flights over the weekend and plans to cancel up to 80 per day through mid-july. passengers weren't sure what to expect. >> my friend got stuck at l.a.x. for hours, but i'm hoping it's easy because it's san jose.

to be late. >> reporter: american airline says in a statement we made targeted changes with the goal of impacting the fewest number of customers adjusting flights in markets where we have multiple options for reaccommodation. staffing shortages are affecting many industries. the table restaurant in willow glen needs employees at every position. >> people went to florida or texas, where it's more affordable to live. >> reporter: the owner is filling in on shifts. she's asking customers for patience. >> we're trying to train people and also your server or bartender might be on a 16-hour shift and they're trying their best. >> reporter: economists say there are several factors, stimulus money, plus extended unemployment, means people may not be as eager to work if they've saved up or jobs aren't paying enough. the question now, when will that end? >> the federal reserve says they think that things will work themselves out, but many economists think that the large amount of money that's going

difference compared to the records last thursday and friday only reaching into the 70s in some of our warmest spots but there will be mid 80s in parts of the far north bay from ukiah to clearlake. we'll talk about this weather sticking around for a little while longer, that's coming up in a few minutes. what's going on for the commute? >> i would like that record and this traffic flow to stick around but things are going to change. over heres the good changes, that crash has been cleared from the chp. the motorcycle that took out the post, still damage to the motorcycle and post, no problem for richmond parkway anymore. the rest of the bay, an easy drive. over in palo alto, we did have an earlier crash southbound 101 around university where our camera is, but everything on the blotter has been cleared. the activity is just the paperwork i think. back to you. 4:38. coming up next on "today in the bay," part of the bay area's water supply hacked. coming up, what investigators are saying the alleged cyber criminal was able to do once they got inside the system.

more than 1,000 pilots by next summer. the company is anticipating a recovery in air travel, as international restrictions start to ease. delta says domestic leisure travel has rebounded to prepandemic levels this month. last year delta cut more than 3500 pilots through early retirement and by placing some on inactive status. those cutbacks led the airline to cancel hundreds of flights around thanksgiving and christmas. apple is shortening the free trial period for apple tv plus from a year to three months starting july 1st. apple has been generous with free trials of extreming service extending the promotion several times but now people who buy new apple devices will only get three free months an then the subscription cost of $4.99 a month kicks in. the verge reports apple isn't very forthcoming about the change which is listed in the fine print on the new apple tv 4k product page and apple's official terms and conditions

4:46 on your tuesday morning. what a lovely live look outside at san francisco. i love the outlines of the lights out there this morning. very nice start. a perk for getting up early. right? >> yes. >> you got to look for them. >> tell everybody that. >> you have to look for them. you have to. another perk the weather should be nice today, right, kari? yes. it's going to be so much cooler. in fact, even this morning, windows open, letting in some cool air and here's where we're starting. some mid to upper 50s for a lot of other microclimates this morning as we are starting out on this tuesday. nice day for a hike too. let's talk about our east bay forecast. what you'll see if you'll be out and about doing anything, this is showing the trend for concord at about 62 degrees and mostly cloudy to start. we'll start to see the sun peeking out by late morning and then all sunshine for the afternoon as we head into the upper 70s here. the seven-day forecast is already up at the bottom of the

screen so you can check that out as we zoom in on the south bay and talk about today's high temperatures will reach 76 in morgan hill, 74 in milpitas, and los gatos reaching 73 degrees. mid 70s for danville and mid 70s for freemont today. oakland reaching 69, while half moon bay will see a high of 63 there. 74 in palo alto. san francisco in the mid to upper 60s and north bay temperatures reaching up to 86 degrees in clearlake. won't be that warm in napa. we're looking at a high there as well as santa rosa up to 74 degrees. so what's happening here? we're getting a strong ocean breeze, but as we head towards the end of the week, high pressure will start to build and change our wind direction. instead of us getting this cool ocean air, we'll see the winds blowing off the coast and it's going to push that marine layer back and our temperatures in the inland areas, especially between saturday and sunday, really starting to heat up once again. let me show you san jose's

seven-day forecast. how we're trending here, very nice and mild over the next few days, even into friday staying in the 70s. then on saturday, those temperatures jump up to the low 80s and we'll see some mid 80s by sunday and some spots will reach into the 90s. that's what we'll see for our warmest spots in the inland valleys, into the upper 70s for the next few days. by friday looking at mostly low 80s, 91 on saturday. if you have outdoor plans this weekend make sure you plan on it being hot and maybe include in air conditioning. we'll see our coastal temperatures in the upper 60s for the next few days and then trending more towards the mid 70s by early next week. mike, keeping an eye on the roads how is it looking? >> it's looking great right now. look how light the traffic is. we expect that at 4:49. the altamont pass just starting in the last 15 minutes showing a little sensor slowing for 580 off the merge with 205.

it is zero percent contained. hundreds have been ordered to evacuate. new video shows a fire that destroyed two homes in pleasant hill. two vehicles ingufld in flames in the driveway. off 680 in pleasant hill 6:30 yesterday afternoon. contra costa fire says wind did play a role in catching a second house on fire. one firefighter was hurt but he is expected to make a full recovery. no cause still on this fire. if you smell smoke in the north bay, cal fire is doing a burn. 7:30 off snell valley road not far from poke valley. fire crews plan to burn 60 acres of grass as part of the vegetation management prompt. we're learning about a hacker who tried to poison a water treatment plant that serves parts of the bay area. the fbi says on january 15th, hacker got the user name and

password of a former employee. that person was able to log in to a computer there at the unnamed treatment plant and delete programs the plant used to treat drinking water. the hack wasn't discovered until the following day when the facility changed its passwords and reinstalled the program. a report shows no failures were reported. it also shows no one reported any illness. okay. . so when we talk about it's hard to make it in the bay, it really is. we know that. making it in southern california also a steep hill to climb. >> in fact, a homeless hollywood couple are living in a limo. jimmy says he's been on the streets for years and when the opportunity to purchase the limousine came up, he used what little money he had to buy it. jimmy lives with lisa who says divorce is what led her to this. he says it's better than the tent he used to call home. >> you get judge lot. people pass us upr especially got tattoos on my face people

this morning, the ban is back. the u.s. ninth circuit court of appeal ruled to put on hold a judge's decision to overturn california's assault weapons ban. you may recall about two weeks ago a federal judge overturned the 30-year ban but the ruling gave california 30 days to challenge the decision. this recent ruling does just that. it means the state's ban is now back in effect until another judge makes a final ruling. less than a month away from the olympic games right here on nbc bay area and steph curry likely opting out of the chance to play in tokyo for team usa. the basketball superstar hasn't made the official announcement but his coach steve kerr says that don't look for him hitting
