at least one person is dead following a partial condo collapse in south florida. this is all near miami beach. >> crews are in the middle of a massive search and rescue effort to find anybody that was trapped. we turn now to sam brock. >> reporter: i'm on the scene of a partial building collapse in miami. this is surfside, a small town, 15 or 20 minutes away from south beach that you are likely familiar with. firefighters and rescue teams are going balcony to balcony at this moment and looking for people. at this side, from this vantage point, it looks okay. in the words of one resident, it pancaked and collapsed. there are drones on top of the building right now trying to provide firefighters and rescue

teams with an aerial view. it's important to note this building was built in 1981, just over 40 years since its inception, which is significant because there were inception requirements after 40 years, and right now they were in the process of going through the roof to inspect the building for the structural integrity when this happened. it's not clear if there are any fatalities or injuries, but it's a dire situation. an active situation going on at this moment. >> thank you. we are just learning in the last few minutes that at least one person is confirmed dead. we will take another live look at those search and rescue operations going on right there -- we don't have that right now but we will continue to follow this story. >> we will have the latest developments all morning long, and stay with nbcbayarea.com as well. today the oakland city

council set to pass a nearly $4 billion budget to dictate how the money is allocated for the police department for years. also increasing funds for alternative crisis responder programs. it comes in the wake of the mass shooting in lake merritt that left one dead and several others hurt. health officials say the santa clara hub has provided more than 350,000 doses since the opening in february. that move comes as cases of covid in santa clara county dropped dramatically. meanwhile, a cdc safety group says there's likely a link between rare heart inflammation in young people. >> it has to do with pfizer and the moderna vaccine, and doctors

weekend, aren't they? >> yeah, the weekend is going to be hotter so we are just going to enjoy today while we still have the cooler weather. in dublin, 59 degrees and you can see the clouds overhead. we go from the upper 50s to a clearing sky and mild temperatures for today. we will see a slow warm-up. at 11:00 we are still in the 60s and headed towards the upper 70s. let's go to the south bay, and we will reach up to 80 in morgan hill, and 75 in milpitas. for the east bay we will see temperatures in the upper 70s and danville. hayward today, looking at a high of 72 degrees. we will reach in the low 60s in half moon bay. redwood city reaching 73 degrees. a high in the upper 60s in san francisco. going to be another really nice day but cloudy for at least most of the morning. for the north bay we will see our highs reaching into the upper 70s for sonoma, and then

upper 80s for ukiah. as we go through the forecast we are going to see the potential across the region for showers and thunderstorms. look what is happen be over in the sierra. on the eastern side of the sierra we are seeing thunderstorms and lightning popping up and that's not good news because there has not been a lot of rain to go along with that, and this surge because of monsoonal moisture in the system. and aside the lightning and the storms we are seeing, just to the east will be the heat building across the region, especially on saturday into sunday. it's going to be hot for our inland areas, but this big dome of high pressure will be to our north and that's where we could see some records set. it's going to be something making headlines, especially for portland and seattle where temperatures could be well over 100 degrees, and we know that they don't have a lot of air-conditioning in some of those areas and not used to this

kind of heat. we're going to have some hot temperatures but not as hot as what we will see further to the north, so we will keep an eye on that. our temperatures reach into the low 80s today as well as tomorrow and then low 90s for the weekend, reaching into the 90s continuing into next week. this is going to be a stretch of several days with highs over 90 degrees while san francisco will see temperatures in the 60s for the next few days. we're not going to heat up as much here as we will get an ocean breeze that will keep our temperatures reaching into the mid-70s through the start of next week. mike, how is it looking at commuters get ready to head out the door? >> kari, looks like not everybody is heading out the door and that's why there's green all around the bay, and the altamont pass is clear by the time you pass by grant line road. if you are just joining us, there's a disabled vehicle
