terms that he's passed >> reporter: while you can feel the pain and the anguish of so many here, we have also seen a community coming together, neighbors bringing food and water to help each other go through what is certain to be a long night >> and days to come, julio, thank you. former minneapolis police officer derek chauvin will be sentenced for the murder of george floyd today on april 20th, chauvin was found guilty of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter under minnesota statutes, chauvin will only be sentenced under the most serious charge because all counts stem from one act and one victim the maximum sentence would be 40 years. >> this sentence is 10 to 15 years for first-time offenders but last month, judge peter cahill agreed with prosecutors that there are aggravating factors that warrant higher sentences including that chauvin abused his position of authority and treated floyd with particular cruelty
