7:06 am
there. i tried to ask the driver about the incident. he didn't want to talk and we're not showing his face or the plate on the truck because he's not charged with a crime. police say they did send an officer to the scene wednesday and an officer talked to the driver, he's someone they know from prior calls but no arrests were made and no charges filed. >> that's him, that's his truck. >> reporter: we showed the victim the video of the truck he said he recognized it immediately. he understands why there's been no arrests but it's frustrating. >> when i moved to the united states i never thought the american dream looked like this. >> reporter: because of so many incidents of violence against asians there's a new effort. >> we have over 50 folks volunteering to help describe how to use these devices
7:07 am
properly and safely. >> reporter: for now the guy who says he was recently harassed said he prefers keeping an eye on their family to make sure they're safe. >> when i drive my grandma-in-law to shopping to buy things, i look like a body guard because i have to check the surroundings. >> reporter: he does appreciate members of the community are coming together to try to do something about the violence. as just mentioned, the group soar over hate is hosting its second care fair today in san francisco. the group will hand out self-defense devises, have a free plant workshop, a self-defense workshop at 1:30, a healing circle at 2:30 p.m., a guided meditation at 3:00 p.m. the event runs from 1:00 to 4:00. new overnight, activists marched through the streets of minneapolis following the sentencing of former police

welcome back, it's 7:16 on your saturday morning. cloudy skies over downtown san jose. vianey arana is along in just about two minutes with your full microclimate forecast. first a new warning from the world health organization. keep your mask on, even if you're fully vaccinated. this comes as the delta variant spreads rapidly across the world. the world health organization says the delta variant, first identified in india, is the most transmissible of all the variants identified so far. the u.n. agency is concerned about the increasing reach of the variant, particularly among
7:17 am
unvaccinated populations. earlier this week dr. anthony fauci told "today" that the delta variant will become the dominant variant in the u.s. in just a few weeks. a small study suggests that most covid-19 patients who lost their sense of smell had fully recovered within a year. french researchers studied 51 patients who had acute loss of smell after contracting covid-19 a smelling test showed that 84% had regained the sense four months after their initial diagnosis. but that increased to 96% at the eight month mark. only two patients had not regained their sense a year later. residents and businesses in uncorporated areas are urged to conserve water now in santa

clara due to drought. the santa clara valley water district has imposed mandatory water from 2019 levels. speaking of that drought, perfect time to check in with vianey arana for a full look at your forecast. some of us get a break from the heat today, others not so much. >> that's the thing with microclimates you can choose whether you want to stay in the sunshine or go to the coastline for relief. in san jose it is cloudy, starting with a cloud cover you can see it here, barely noticing the sun shining through. look at the fog in san francisco. at the airport and we're going to expect to see a sea breeze around the coastline, that's going to keep the temperatures cool. meanwhile, further inland things are going to warm up. as you head out the door right now, 52 degrees in san francisco, 54 in santa rosa and
7:19 am
how about the 60s for areas like san jose, 61, brentwood 64. how warm are we going to get? first let's look at doppler radar, you can see the cloud cover we're waking up to this morning but i wish we could say we have rain in sight but it's not looking like that right now. we have extreme heat in parts of the pacific northwest and i'm going to talk about that in a second but let's look at your microclimate forecast for here today locally. we aren't going to see the heaviest effects of that pacific northwest heat but we are going to get a little bit of heat through the north bay. you remember, last week, two weeks ago we had the record heat here locally. today in the 90s, concord 92. hayward, 75. so no record heat expected for today but the coastline and the peninsula, 75 san mateo. san francisco breezy, from the
7:20 am
west about 20 miles per hour, so take into consideration even though it's in the upper 60s it's chillier because of the wind which as you know fog and wind pairs with the summer temperatures. i mentioned that heat in the pacific northwest. so take a look at areas like awe kaia and clear lake. we will see some triple digits through the far north portion of california. speaking of dry conditions and the heat. the good thing is we're not going to see triple digits as far as the interior valley here but the drought monitor we haven't seen an improvement, we haven't seen any rain. 100% of the state of california remains in a drought. and 33% of the state remains under an exceptional drought. which is the worst category on that scale. as far as the long range outlook we had the low pressure that cooled us off. we have high pressure dominating, causing the heat dome creating the record heat. not necessarily for us here but
7:21 am
it will be enough to impact some of the far northern areas and bumping us up in the interior valley. 70s in san francisco, things will begin to warm up yet again. i want to talk about today's climate hacks. you might have actually used this one this morning. take a look. >> many of you probably have one of these hanging in your shower. i'm talking about a loofah but how much of us stopped to think about what this is made of? chances are the answer is microplastics. when you use a loofah, those tiny particles get washed down the drains and into our oceans. get this, not only can loofahs be harmful to the planet, they're also a breeding ground for bacteria. time for your climate hack.
7:22 am
>> i have a better idea. let's ditch the plastic and go for something more planet friendly. try a silicon brush or a real loofah made from plants. if we swish our loofah every month we toss 12 a year. if everyone living in the county switched to something more planet friendly we keep more than 3 million out of the trash each year. in addition to the plastic, i think the bacteria and that's not something i want when i'm taking a shower. >> a lot going on vianey, thanks so much. we'll be right back. stay with us.

who couldn't get it to work. so consumer investigator chris camara went to work figuring out how to get it done on the website run by the state. here's how. >> reporter: when we made our first video about california's covid-19 vaccine qr code we knew there was a chance of difficulty. quickly we heard from others on social media, people who tried but were told their data didn't match or people whose first dose is listed just fine but their second dose showed na, which means there's no record of it. we say carry a copy of your vaccine card in the interim, either a paper or digital copy. let's talk about how to fix your account. first, contact the state. when you get rejected, there's a troubleshooting first time, try again and click it. otherwise you can call the state. the number is 833-422-4255. both ways the state will take information about your doses and then update your record.
7:26 am
when i called in to update mine -- yeah, it was messed up -- it took seven minutes from start to finish but it can take two to three weeks to completely update your record and get you the qr code. the state said the other thing to do is contact your vaccine provider. if you went to a mass vaccination site you have to figure out who was running it, contact them and ask them to update your record and transmit to the state. cvs said it's done 24 million doses, so we contacted cvs and walgreens. walgreens said it's in the process of how it will adopt the qr system. cvs says you can call in right now. it said a team member at the store can address any issues with a patient's incomplete or inaccurate records. correcting and communicating your updated vaccine record to the state might take time.
