i'm marcus washington. >> i'm laura garcia. hope everybody had a great weekend. we'll check in with mike in a moment. good monday morning, kari. >> good morning. let's get you out the door and ready for the commute as we're starting out with these temperatures mostly in the upper 50s. a breezy wind coming through fairfield but we will see a mix of sun and clouds for the start of the day and then sunshine as we warm up for late morning into the afternoon. you'll notice that today's high temperatures will be very much like yesterday but we are going to see a slight warm up in spots heading into tomorrow. we'll talk about that coming up. mike, any problems for early morning commuters. >> one thing of note in the trivalley and the green sensors not slowing in the altamont pass, that's mild right now. this crash eastbound 580 away from the dublin interchange, through traci and livermore, this crash blocking one lane and it's been there over an hour and a half in the slow lanes. no slowing shows up. we'll check the live camera in

the area. back to you. the bay area community continues to mourn nine members killed in the vta shooting. it's been just more than a month since the shooting and the state legislature is set to vote on a funding allocation. it will go to restart the service. the fund will go towards safety repairs needed at the rail yard. the rail yard is taped off with yellow caution tape as the investigation continues. search and rescue teams are continuing to dig through the rubble in the condo collapse in south florida. 152 remain missing, nine people have been confirmed dead. for the first time we are now starting to learn more about the victims. "today in the bay's" jay gray has the latest on this tragedy. >> reporter: teams are still pulling away pieces of the crumbled high rise. >> as they pick up the large pieces of debris it allows for a whole other round of the dogs that make the rounds that look

family members sight seeing at devil's slide bunker, he saw in the unusually clear waters of gray whale cove a shark swimming very close to shore. >> i called chp. they said they didn't know what to do. i went down and warned them to get out of the water. that was june 11th. yesterday at the same beach, a six foot great white bit a surfer in the leg. the surfer made it to shore and was helped by thomas masotta who happened to be fishing at that time. >> i looked at the guy and said help might be on its way but let's get you taken care of. we used my fishing equipment and did a tourniquet on his leg. >> reporter: the surfer was released from the hospital hours later and masotta says he hopes to meet him again. >> my best friend and i were suffering out. wendi zuccaro survived her own shark attack in 2013 in half moon bay. >> i was okay. i'm one of the lucky ones. had it come from the side my left knee down would have been

gone and that would have been it. i would have bled out on the beach. >> reporter: zuccaro says the trauma hit months later. >> six months later i woke up and all the cold sweats came in. all the what ifs. >> reporter: it has taken a lot of therapy, but she says she is back in the water. >> the gentleman who was bit yesterday, when he's ready to talk, you know, i want him to know there is somebody here in the bay area that's ready to listen. >> reporter: experts say shark attacks are rare, something that keeps surfers wanting to catch the waves. >> nbc bay area news. we spoke with an expert researching sharks since 1973 and he says over the last few years the adult shark population along our coast has grown. here are a few reasons why. >> white sharks are protected and they feed on seals and sea

we see for the first part of the day keeps our temperatures in check. we're seeing that as we take a live look outside at sfo this morning. we're going it see our temperatures stay in the upper 60s here for a high temperature, to low 70s for oakland today, for the north bay it's going to be wide ranging, anywhere from the low 80s in napa to 99 degrees in clearlake. 86 in livermore. we'll see some low 90s for morgan hill. we'll talk more about a warmup coming up. mike, what's going on for the commute? >> we just wanted to -- or i wanted to check the dublin camera we have over here eastbound the taillights away, no visible slowing or on the sensors as we talked about the earlier crash. the details of the crash seem to indicate everything is cleared from the roadways. i'll keep an eye on things for a few minutes, but it's eastbound and westbound a and your commute from the altamont pass. no delays at the maze or out of the north bay. back to you. >> thanks, mike. coming up on "today in the bay," not ready to take off?

manufacturing, hiring in the private sector and unemployment filings, but it is topped off by the monthly jobs report on friday. the faa has reportedly told boeing the updated version of its 777 jet likely won't be ready for approval until 2023. the agency sent boeing a letter in may requiring -- warning it may require more test flights. it noted a number of concerns including problems with the flight control software which abruptly pits the plane without the pilot's input in december. the 777 has faced delays due to the pandemic and could end up being about four years behind schedule. universal's f 9 speeds to the box office bringing in an estimated $70 million this weekend according. it is the biggest opening of any film since the pandemic began. the latest installment in the "fast and the furious" franchise opened only in theaters and had the widest release of any movie

here we go monday morning, and here we go downtown san jose. all lit up ready for "today in the bay." >> look at the lights. >> i know. >> i don't know. just look. >> just for all of us. the whole morning. >> please, if you're waking up, we're recovering from the weekend. >> monday is here and we're going to have a great one. meteorologist kari hall has a great forecast for us as well. >> yeah. still looks pretty good, the kind of weather we saw from over the weekend continues today. let's start out in dublin with a live look out there with a little bit of some clouds. this is what helps keep our temperatures in check. right now we're in the upper 50s and we'll see it holding steady

for a couple hours and a mix of sun an clouds throughout late morning, all clear sunshine for the rest of today as we head into the upper 60s and low 70s by 11:00. seven-day forecast coming up at the bottom of the screen. we're going to take a looks at some of these temperatures and what to expect for today. it's all going to be about location because there's going to be some spots that stay mild, san francisco in the upper 60s, oakland 73 and then you head over to fairfield and it's 91 degrees. we'll see upper 90s for clearlake and ukiah. you can see the wide-ranging temperatures we'll have today and we're expecting more of the same tomorrow. not all of the bay area will be heating up but we'll be from 101 in clearlake for tomorrow afternoon to 79 in freemont and 85 in san jose and then some upper 60s for half moon bay. so there will be quite a range there as we see this heat dome across the pacific northwest bring those extreme temperatures

and it's going to start to back off and move over towards the desert southwest and we're in for normal weather as we go into the rest of the week. just a couple days of some hot temperatures and saying thank goodness we are not in portland. 115 degrees today, but we know with climate change that we can see more extreme heat events like this and who knows, by the -- some time in the summer we could be seeing some of the same temperatures. it looks fairly good all week long. heading through the fourth of july with highs in the mid 80s. mike, what's going on with the morning commute? >> i'm thinking about that 115 in portland. they moved the trial times and it was hot over there when running those races. 101 and 280 that's not a problem. the earlier crash has cleared. whatever it was cleared quickly from the report, no slowing there or out of the north bay. your longer drive out of antioch, highway 4 at speed, 580 typical slowing until you get out of the altamont pass and the south bay no slowing on our sensors. a live look shows you a camera at 101 does show you a good

amount of traffic streaming north bay. that's someone changing lanes, nothing to worry about here from north bay around 680. back to you. >> thanks, mike. more people living near the oregon border are told to standby to evacuate. this is as that moving fire continues to grow. this is near mount shasta friday morning. there are evacuation orders in place. more than 500 acres have burned and 20% contained. turning to the pandemic, the delta variant is the third most common across california. data from the state department of public health shows the variant makes up more than 14% of cases. that is up from nearly 5% of cases in may. the variant, first identified in india, may be twice as transmissible as the conventional coronavirus strain. health experts say the delta variant poses a greater chance

of infection for unvaccinated people if they are exposed. the concerns come as california's vaccination rate continues to slow. the state is averaging fewer than 100,000 daily shots. so far over a quarter of eligible residents are not vaccinated and according to the cdc 71% 12 and older have received one dose, 57% across the state are fully vaccinated. as the bay area reopens, people are flocking to popular tourist destination but in one city the number of car break-ins has sky rocketed. the chronicle is reporting where chinatown and fisherman's wharf is located car break-ins have increased dramatically. police say from may 2020 to now the break-ins in that area have gone up more than 750% from april to may of this year, break-ins increased 94%. more than 2,000 cars were looted this year. police warn not to leave anything of value in your car. one small step for teachers,

welcome back. one east bay city moving forward with plans for a fourth of july parade while surrounding communities are canceling celebration. the orinda fourth of july celebrations have drawn crowds up to 5,000 people for years and some people are concerned because we're still in the middle of the pandemic. parade opponents say there's no way the city can limit how many show up. leaders with the orinda association say that the changes in place will help keep people safe. >> the idea we have, the parade route is about a mill long so people can spread out here, and secondly, we suggest people wear masks only because unvaccinated people should wear masks, even though it's outside, especially to protect unvaccinated kids. >> if you still don't feel comfortable there's good news. the parade will be streamed online for people who don't feel comfortable attending in person. happening today, it's almost liftoff for a sacramento

las vegas. records are set to be shattered across the west. portland expected to reach 115 degrees with temperatures in sin city expected to hike up to 107. just two of many places seeing that extreme heat. >> that's keeping local utilities paying close attention. as of now state energy leaders say they don't expect to issue a flex alert, despite some of those extreme temperatures. cal iso and the state's grid operator say that it expects that there will be enough energy to keep up with the demand across california. let's bring in meteorologist kari hall to talk about any possible things we have in store for us. >> it looks like the heat that we'll see in the bay area will not be as extreme as what we're seeing across the region. definitely not the kind of heat we had around memorial day but we're looking at temperatures in some spots reaching into the 90s this afternoon, while we will get enough of an ocean breeze to keep much of the bay area
