line and that babyo e ball game. what coliseum is set to do for the first time since the pandemic. as we get started with this tuesday edition of "today in the bay" right now. >> it's out of there and we are right here in the house. i'm laura garcia. >> i'm marcus washington. the team all here ready to get you started with your tuesday. meteorologist kari hall has a look at that forecast for us today. kari, how is it looking out there? >> it's going to be warmer today. our temperatures heading up a few more degrees as we get a live look in san jose, upper 50s right now and we will see a few clouds to start out this morning, but quickly clearing out as our temperatures heat up. this is where we're headed up to 85 degrees in san jose, but notice those 90s that we're going it see in the east bay and south county and widespread for the north bay. it's not going to stay like this all week. we'll talk about a cool down in

our fourth of july weekend forecast in a few minutes. mike, how is it looking for the commute? >> pretty good. i mean the contra costa county highway 4 the bridges are movin closure that will continue until about 5:00. there's the head's up there. over here there is a crash reported near 84 and ruby hill. we'll track that. there may be one lane blocked. more detail coming up. back to you. the shaking has finally come to an end in the bay area, at least for now. 3.9 magnitude quake struck at 6:30 in the east bay near san leandro. usgs says the epicenter was along the hayward fault. >> our nbc bay area size ma graph capturing the shaking. no injuries reported or damage but a lot of people with those rattled nerves. terry mcsweeney has more. >> reporter: at san leandro express liquor store a 3.9

bay." our climate in crisis coverage another bay area city taking action amid the drought. santa rosa city council is set to vote on a mandatory 20% reduction in water use. however, if passed, there will be no fines for those who don't meet the target. you may recall this comes after the city asked residents to voluntarily cut back in may. the state water board is directing sonoma water to reduce its rushing use of river water by a fifth. several other bay area counties including santa clara, marin and contra costa county have taken similar actions. 150 people still missing this morning as search crews continue to comb through the rubble of the cos lapsed condo building in south florida. at the beachside vigil families holding on to hope that their loved ones will be found. meanwhile, that painstaking search for survivors continues. dozens of rescuers are out there still combing through the debris around the clock. 11 confirmed deaths so far.

>> we have people waiting, and waiting and waiting for news that is excruciating. >> the cause of the collapse is still unknown but new details are emerging about the integrity of the structure noted in an engineering report from 2018. we're getting more details and photos from the san francisco man who was bitten by a great white shark at montara beach over the weekend. he's opening up about that encounter with a great white. jean elle spoke about that face-to-face moment and who he is thanking this morning. >> i'm probably the luckiest guy in the world to get hit by the great white and walk out of the hospital the same day. >> reporter: nemanja spasojevic has a slight limp and ten puncture wounds in the back of his thigh. >> he didn't tlash my leg. he did a gentle kind of bite and let go. >> reporter: the 38-year-old feels lucky to be talking about surviving a shark attack saturday morning during this free dive for crab at gray whale

cove. >> a sharp mosquito bite like feeling and then a slight push and then as i look and rub my leg, i could see kind of like the shark from here like with the nose and like two eyes. >> reporter: not wanting to come face-to-face with the shark again, the marathon swimmer says he headed to shore as close to the rocks as possible. >> just kicking frantically to the white water and making sure like my fins are pointing, you know, like if strike comes, my back to the rocks, i get hit again, it hits fins but not like my kind of legs or arms. >> reporter: he made it to shore to find his wet suit filling with blood. realizing his plan to hike up steep sets of stairs to his car and drive for help was out on a nearly empty beach he managed to get a fisherman's attention who was able to get cell reception, call 911 and guide first responders to the beach. paramedics carried the 220 pound

patient up those stairs and got him to san francisco general. >> so many people helped me out. just super grateful. most of all, the shark, like i mean if it wasn't gentle enough i wouldn't be here standing. >> reporter: grateful to be walking around san francisco with his wife and ready to head back into the ocean when doctors give him the okay. >> maybe with a friend. >> reporter: jean elle, "today in the bay." just in time for summer the oakland coliseums becomes the latest study in opening up to full capacity. the first time since 2019 season that the coliseum has been able to actually fill all of the seats 100% capacity and fans from outside of california, they're eligible to buy those tickets as well. on friday the a's will host a fireworks show after the game after the red sox and against them. >> nice to get back to normal. go to a game and be outside. the weather across the bay area has been lovely, kari. what are we in store for today?

i'm rahel sal low mon. wall street is set for a mixed open this morning. it was a split session for stocks as the dow fell 150 points amid a pullback in boeing and chevron. the nasdaq closing record highs on tech names. it's the third straight which is on track to post its fifth straight months of gains. home prices and consumer confidence. homeowner behind on their mortgage payments could avoid foreclosure from the consumer protection borough. lenders will have to contact homeowner to see if they qualify for a lower interest rate or another loan modification. the agency is trying to avoid foreclosures as 9 hundred,000 start to exit covid holiday programs in the coming months. nothing says summer like a cooler full of beer. heineken has a modern twist. the company has made the beer outdoor transporter bot, a self-driving cooler with the

part of your morning. we want to get you started with the day. meteorologist kari hall has a look at what you can expect from that forecast today. kari, something good for us? >> yeah. you know, i'm going to head down the road from pleasanton to dublin and show you how we're starting out this morning. a lot of people heading out the door and 580 is busy with our temperatures in the upper 50s and we're going to see it clearing out and temperatures heating up a little bit more quickly than we did yesterday, especially as we're headed towards some warmer temperatures for today. we'll reach into the mid 80s for downtown san jose. now that's not too bad, but you do down to the south county and we're going to reach into the mid 90s. mid to upper 90s for the inland east bay with a high of 97 in antioch today. this will be the warmest day of the week. we just have to make it through today and then those temperatures start to come down a few degrees. you can probably see that at the bottom of the screen with the seven-day forecast. san mateo reaching 76 degrees

this afternoon with san francisco reaching up to 70 degrees today. but mostly in the 60s, that fog will clear out and for the north bay it's going to be hot, reaching ukiah. as we go through the forecast we've been watching these hot temperatures across the region. i wanted to show you that it's still going to be hot in portland today. they're coming out of the triple digits after setting an all-time record high yesterday at 116 degrees there. it looks like the heat is backing off just a little bit today, but still pretty unbearable after several days of those extreme temperatures. we're going to see our typical weather pattern but there will be a surge of monsoon al moisture. planning to head to the sierra for the fourth of july weekend we have to watch this because there may be thunderstorms popping up in that area. not too much of an impact here in the bay area. our temperatures stits hot today and coming down tomorrow into

the upper 80s with our inland areas and warmest spots, mid 80s through the end of the week and the fourth of july forecast looking nice. while the fog lingers near the s here in the 60s and each and every morning we'll see that fog rolling back in. mike, how is it looking for the commute? >> things are looking great as far as the speed sensors are concerned and as far as the closures that's much better. let's zoom over to the tri-valley and we have 84 cleared a couple minutes ago. you're okay through alvarado and miles and the crash. clear to the shoulder and cleared from the chp report. no problems past ruby hill. contra costa county an easy drive for the long drive off the antioch bridge off of rio vista and concord at speed. walnut creek interchange is great. we'll check the golden gate bridge where we have low clouds hovering around. the fact that we kind of lose sight of the lights towards that south tower there. no problems, just some low clouds around the golden gate.

back to you. >> all right. thanks, mike. happening now, fire crews continue to battle a wildfire burning in northern california near the oregon border. this is near mount shasta lightning is believed to have caused the fire. around 10,000 have been evacuated and it's burned over 1400 acres and only 20% contained. turning to the pandemic are you feeling free without wearing that mask? the world health organization is giving some new advice about it. it's urging immunized people to continue to wear a mask because of increased concerns about the delta variant. it's spreading throughout the world in places like russia, south africa, australia and israel. it's spreading rapidly in california among unvaccinated people accounting for 20% of new cases as well. >> if you're unvaccinated you are going to be confronting a virus that is better at its job than what you would have confronted a year ago. >> infectious disease experts believe there won't be a big

surge here thanks to the bay area's high vaccination rate. one east bay county unveiling a new way to keep track of its covid cases. the health department will now report case rates separately for vaccinated and unvaccinated people. it looks like the seven-day average rate. the rates are ten times higher for unvaccinated people, which is the yellow line. it also shows as more people get vaccinated, the unvaccinate ready less likely to be exposed to someone infected. a live look at san francisco. this is where some san franciscans think the quality of life in the city has declined during the pandemic. a poll by the san francisco chamber of commerce asked hundreds of residents who were impacted economically and socially by the pandemic over the past year. western talking about this in the nous room yesterday. they found 70% of respondents

happening today, one of governor newsom's leading opponents in the recall is making his way to the bay area. republican john cox is making a stop in san jose, but trading in the live bear for a pile of trash. "l.a. times" says cox will have an 8-foot ball of garbage. the campaign says it symbolizes what the homeless policies have inflicted on neighborhoods. the event starts at 10:30 at columbus park. his visit comes as california republicans claim democrats are acting unfairly in governor newsom's upcoming recall election. state lawmakers passed a bill yesterday that would move up the election by 30 days. the bill is now headed to newsom's desk for signature. democrats are hoping newsom could benefit from favorable

conditions as california reopens from the pandemic. some republicans claim moving the election date is considered cheating in the election. without a recall governor newsom wouldn't have to face voters until 2022. as the state reopens many throughout the bay area are hoping to hear music again this summer. >> after going silent for more than a year as more live music events are contributing to a concert comeback in the bay area. ♪ take me down to the paradise city where the grass is green and the girls are pretty ♪ >> guns and roses there, rock icons set to hit the sap center on august 25th. in the meantime oakland's tony tony set to play the winery in saint helena on july 3rd. another oakland-based band green day will participate in the mega tour at oracle park. the berkeley based counting crows are set to perform at the greek theater on september 3rd.
