people in the east bay now have more options for public transportation starting today. the east bay transit is expanding the services system-wide, and during the year and a half, and the next year and a half, ac transit is expanding to schools and early bird transit, and in the pandemic, the ridership plummeted from 190,000 to 44,000 riders per weekday, and the public health restrictions forced reductions, but now that the ridership is making a comeback, so will the service. and now, this week, the house will continue to try to agree on the additional amendments in the senate for the

because the cats have closer contact with humans than other pets. >> they are closer to people's faces when sleeping with people's faces. >> they cuddle with pets. >> yes, one cat was euthanized because it was so sick from covid. and a majority of the infected cats and dogs exhibited mild symptoms or none. the main thing is that it is spread from people to animals and not back to people from the animals. we also told you about the researchers seeing it from wild bats and peng lynns. when the virus gets into wild populations, the researchers say it is impossible to control. and as the infection spreads, the virus mutates forming new variants which can come back to humans, but when the house pets catch the virus, the infection

is more limited and it has more chances to create a mutation to pose a threat to people. >> it is not a lot of reason to vaccinate the dogs and cats, because they are not important in spreading the infection back to the people. >> reporter: but since they mutate quickly, a new variant coming from animals or people can change everything. the delta variant, how is that changing the research right now as we speak? >> the concern is if a variant arises that is more infectious for people's companion animal and then transmitted back to people. >> reporter: right now, no evidence that it can infect pets and then back to humans, but dr. sykes says it is crucial to keep an eye on any potential variant and could potentially impact us. back to you. >> yes, across the bay is the

the top of mount diablo or the peaks seeing the smoke, and look at the impact that the sea breeze is having in terms of clearing out the smoke today and how fortunately we are in the bay area, and look at this island of the better air quality thanks to the strong sea breeze, and most of the interior california having air quality problems and here comes the marine air push, and that is going to clear away the smoke from the bay area, and the morning is going to begin with the hazy skies at times, and we should be okay with the denser smoke staying off of the east. and the morning temperatures in the upper 60s to start, and the highs tomorrow, close to what we had today, the low 80s around san jose and lower 90s in concord and livermore, and martinez about 89, and in oakland the low 70s, but from here, we will begin to see the valley temperatures in north bay

and east bay climbing into the mid-90s. what is more interesting is wednesday and thursday and friday, and the green band is passing over, and some of it is monsoon moisture which is bottled over for a while in the southwest, and it may be drifting to the southwest heading tone the middle part of the week, and why that is a concern is the dixie fire, and we could see more lightning strikes going closer to sierra, and what we will watch closer for the bay area is if it is drifting farther to the west, and what we are seeing is a main impact, and what it should produce is rain and lightning chances and that is a change, because things have been calm around the sierra, and things are going to be more active to the middle part of the week. and in san francisco, the temperatures in the upper 60s and 70s as you approach next weekend. a change to the inland temperatures, and toward the end of the week, we will watch
