9:34 pm
>> mike: rockies really backup center fielder sam hilliard, almost looks like double prevent defense. no doubles. >> jon: that is all for slater. two down. two strikeouts for estevez. >> mike: backup slider. this ball doesn't do anything. when you see that spin, you expect it to break and when it doesn't break, it winds up being a great pitch. again, you can't purposely throw a backup slider. i don't know that anybody has ever perfected that pitch. that is just a gift. estevez has done it twice in strikeout situations and twice has gotten a swing for a
9:35 pm
strikeout. >> jon: bryant 1 for 4. left center field. that one is up and over the wall. an automatic double. >> mike: that cost him an rbi. boy, as soon as he hits this thing, you think catch that. screaming line drives he has been hitting and they have been finding gloves but not this time. but it's the warning track that does him in as it one hops the wall. denies him a rbi. >> jon: buster posey now with two runners in scoring position. buster has walked twice and grounded out to short twice.

9:42 pm
hitter. that was a slider, fouled. strike one. connor joe, the lead-off man, is on deck. there is connor. all of the scoring in this game occurred early. giants four-run first inning. out of play. strike two. back to the fastball there. big blow in that first inning. the three-run homer with two down from wilmer flores. then later, another rally developed and thairo estrada knocked in a run. charlie blackmon looking on from the dugout. >> mike: best mullet in the league! >> jon: another foul.
9:43 pm
97 miles an hour. right down, what do you say, mike? right down? geary? right down market street? right down embarcadero. 0-2. there is the high fastball but away. 1-2. daza hitting .288, one of their top pinch hitters as well. that slider, he got a piece of it, lunging at it. >> mike: he did well to get a piece of that. that had the perfect location.
9:44 pm
most the sliders we have seen mcgee throw in an outing ever. this is perfect location. outside corner at the knees. >> jon: 1-2 the count for daza. into the hands, back to the screen. >> mike: really got in on the hands tight with that 96-mile-an-hour but still not the location that posey wanted. he keeps putting that mitt with a target above the strike zone and not once tonight has mcgee been able to pinpoint that location.
9:45 pm
>> jon: too low. 2-2 now. daza trying to get something going here. rockies got a run in the second and knocked in by gomber. there is connor joe on deck and mcmahon in the hole. they got another run in the third. neither team has scored since. cron knocked in a run in the third to make the 5-2 and still the score now as we play in the ninth inning. foul ball over toward the colorado dugout. >> mike: he has fought off a sliders and then fought off pitches on the inside corner off the hands. he hasn't made any contact near the sweet spot of the at-bat. this is a great at-bat. he is hanging in there.
9:46 pm
>> jon: back to the slider but that is down and in. 3-2. full count. this will be the tenth pitch from mcgee to yonathan daza. the crowd now is getting into it. base hit to left field. >> mike: that's a great at-bat. fought off a lot of nastiness to finally get something he could put on the field and find a hole. for mcgee, he worked himself into a 3-2 pitch. three-run lead you can't walk anybody. you got to make them swing it.
9:47 pm
>> jon: here is connor joe. he has gone 0 for 4 tonight. ground ball to third, a lineout to first and flyball to left center. then he clobbered one a liner to center for an out his last time. deep to left field! down the line! and way out of here! now it's a one-run game! after the ten-pitch battle from daza, connor joe unloads on the first pitch he sees. 5-4 giants. now andrew bailey will go out to the mound to talk with jake mcgee. >> mike: outside target they set
9:48 pm
up and down and in and connor joe drops the head on it and gets what he is looking for and barrels it out of here. that was a loud line drive. right now, mcgee is hav his fas. >> jon: that ball was was hit at 110 miles per hour, 407 feet the estimate. so this one has become much more tense and the rockies are going to sends up trevor story as a pinch hitter for mcmahon. he is the possible tying run.
9:49 pm
he is well capable of hitting the long ball. ground ball to first. foot race. flores gets the unassisted out. two down in the inning. >> mike: wasn't a lot of drama in that at-bat. first fastball, set the defense up perfectly. wilmer flores catches it and wins that foot race you're talking about. >> jon: setting the defense is a big story of the giants season. two down. here is brendan rodgers. 1 for 4. there is a good fastball up above the belt. strike one. >> mike: keep climbing. keep raising it up three inches.
9:50 pm
up around the letters, he gets a little more carry with that fastball than he does around the knees. >> jon: strike two called! giants fans now all around the ballpark are standing, rooting mcgee on. way outside and high. brendan rodgers got a single in the first and extending his hitting streak to 15 games. he has been hot. he has hit four home runs in that time. high fastball fouled out of play. second deck.
9:51 pm
two strikes. >> mike: he is getting in that location that posey has been wanting him to get to with that fastball. that last fastball, rodgers was late. >> jon: charlie blackmon, the veteran, left-handed hitter, on deck. two down in the ninth. 5-4 giants. down the right-field line. slicing toward the corner and off the pillar and yaz drops it! but rodgers will still hold with a single. yaz played the carom, he stopped and when yaz dropped it, he thought too late now. >> mike: a nice at-bat from rogers taking that high fastball to right field. ball slams into the wall. but giants catch a break.
9:52 pm
rodgers has to stay at first base. he is not in scoring position. >> jon: now charlie blackmon, the veteran. two runs are in. possible tying run is on base. blackmon tonight is 1 for 4. he had a single his first time up. ball one. blackmon has hit two walkoff homers this year, including one against the dodgers.
9:53 pm
he hasn't hit many home runs but he has hit some big ones. way outside with a slider. 2-0. zack littell is heating up in the giants bullpen. the red hot hitter on deck is c.j. cron. high down the right-field line! it is foul, although the wind watching that one carry it looked like the wind was pushing it back toward the foul pole. >> mike: it was trying. woo! >> jon: it had the distance by plenty to be a home run.
9:54 pm
>> mike: they are asking bill miller if they can have a look. that angle there, i mean, you really can't tell. >> jon: i guess the umpires in new york, that is the angle that they will be looking at too. >> mike: that is what they are going to look at. i don't know how you can tell from that look. it wasn't exactly down the line. there is a camera well in this ballpark that looks down that first baseline but there is no camera there tonight. >> jon: bill miller, the crew chief, and it was his call. >> mike: this is definitely ratcheting up the drama here, jon. >> jon: if it's a fair ball, then the rockies are ahead.
9:55 pm
>> mike: charlie blackmon thought he hit a home run. but, there's no way new york could tell from that angle. giants catch a break. >> jon: we didn't have a great angle either but it did look foul from where we were. >> mike: that's what i'm going with! >> jon: it also looked like the winds was pushing it back toward the foul pole. i remember barry bonds hit one one night and it pushed it back and it hit the foul pole. 2-1. up the middle. base hit center field. rodgers will stop at second. slater aggressively charged the ball. it has not gone well for jake mcgee. he has allowed four hits in this
