across the bay area. >> if a -- we are definitely going to see another hazy day today. a microclimate weather alert for sure, and san jose, you can barely make it up but i guarantee when the sun comes up you will notice the orange glow in the sky. we go from hazy, which is the blue and green colors into the yellow, orange, and then we get the red and slightly purple unhealthy air quality. notice in through san francisco, san mateo, scott's valley, we get the greenish-bluish colors, and then by the time lapse right

here, 12:30, around your lunch hour, things start to get unhealthy and down through the santa cruz mountain area. the cache fire might have only burned less than 100 acres, but the devastation is huge. we have new videos to show you some of the damage overnight. swept through a neighborhood in clearlake. >> 1,600 people under evacuation orders and another 100 told to be on standby to leave. we have the latest from clearlake. >> reporter: with flames still burning -- >> felt like the movies, kind of. >> she's one of the lucky ones. she has a home to go back to unlike many that live in the

fire zone. she's grateful she has a story to tell. >> i grabbed picture. a file cabinet. which is a binder of file stuff. >> the initial attack was to evacuate and save lives. >> reporter: crews attack the wildfire from the air. it was controlled chaos getting school buses full of children to safety. >> got up in the trees and was burning across the trees from one side of the street to the other. it just grew really quickly. >> so quickly that animal rescue crews scrambling to get animals to safety. some animals perished in the fire. >> give them food and water only if it's a safe location. >> everybody has a pump but

there's no water in the creek because of the drought. >> there was a house right here and an rv behind it. both of those burned. >> james stayed behind to help with the fires in his neighborhood. fire crews are worried about the wind sparking other fires which is why the power was shut off for thousands of people yesterday, and it's back on for most people. the purple triangles is where the power is still off in parts of the north bay, specifically if windsor, vacaville and just south of clearlake. a live look this morning at the sap center, and california will soon require proof of vaccination in all large indoor events. senators like the sap center will be affected by the state's new requirement.

ricardo wants to go further, showing proof of vaccinations and no option to show a negative covid test. >> it's probably right for our community. >> the mayor's proposal will be heard next tuesday. if passed it goes into effect immediately. right now there are 20 states across the nation that ban proof of vaccination requirements so people do not have to show a vaccine card anywhere. there are 11 states and the governors there in those states instituted bans through executive orders. in nine of the states legislators passed laws banning the proof of vaccination requirements as well. a group of parents in florida are take governor desantis to court over his mask mandate ban in schools. it says it violates the florida

constitution. a florida judge will hear the case later this morning. florida has seen a large increase of child covid cases every since school returned in person. moderna's covid vaccine could be a breakthrough on making an hiv vaccine, and it's different than previous ones because of technology, using mrna strands, the same used in moderna's covid vaccine. the study is in phase one, which means it's measuring the safety on humans. the trial date is set to end in 2023, and after that it's on to phase two to collect information on effectiveness. and then teachers are now organizing a rally and a march later today. the teachers work in the burlingame school district, and that march is scheduled for 5:00 this evening.

the district board approved a budget in june that does have a short fall. a district came out with a new study, up to 23% of 8th grade or high school students have less than two years of english instruction. something to consider if you are headed to lake tahoe before the end of the year, the camp fire bans, and fire restrictions have been in place since june. >> you need a fire at night in tahoe, and you might have to take a big jacket. >> it's understandable why you can't have a fire.

we probably would not want to be camping this weekend because of the smoke situation? >> yeah, the situation constantly changes and there's an air quality warning in effect, so a lot to keep in mind. want you to have fun, just do it safely. in san jose, you can see the lights there. it's another day where the hazy conditions are expected to remain. over the past couple of days i kept my windows shut and have had to have shorter walks, but it's all for the best. this color index shows you conditions from hazy to unhealthy, and the blue and green, you get a lot of hazy conditions, and then as we inch closer to thursday and friday, notice how more areas see more orange and red. this is sort of a predictor, but the conditions can change

starting maybe at the end of this year. the fed says inflation has hit their target but employment still has a way to go before they would consider actually raising interest rates. we will get more data with that regard and the latest number for those filing for unemployment. and wells fargo doing an about face following massive customer backlash. customers asked the bank to keep their accounts open to avoid any inconvenience. others were concerned about the impact the decisions would have to their credit scores. a wells fargo spokesperson said the company decided to keep the products available for those who actively use them or want to reactivate their old lines, but they will not offer credit lines

it's ten to 5:00 right now, and we are looking live at downtown san jose, and it's clear enough to see the lights in the distance, but that could change because we will see more smoke in our region. >> it comes and goes depending on the wind shift. >> yeah, it could smell like a barbecue. >> today we are going to see some of the smoke get pushed further inland, and we will get better clearing for that. and if a new fire starts like we have recently seen, it brings on

more smoke that could drift into our area as well. i want to start off with a quick check of the temperatures. you will not need a heavy coat, another hazy day, and we have the moisture levels up. 66 degrees around 11:00 a.m., and expect a climate in the 70s for today and also the 80s. the smoke is expected to remain today and through the weekend as well. san jose, 82 degrees. morgan hill, 85. concord and livermore, climbing in the upper 80s and potentially even low 90s through the interior valleys. palo alto, 79. san francisco topping out in the upper 60s and 80s in santa rosa. and let's get to the air quality because it's an important factor when planning your activity outdoors this weekend. we will see some of the marine layer around the coast, and this is good, but we have still got the smoke and with the shift in the winds we will see more of that be carried further inland,

and we are seeing green in san jose and yellow in terms of the good and moderate and healthy air quality here, but if we look at the near surface smoke, it's not just the air quality sensors but it's a time lapse of the potential movement of the smoke because, remember, a key factor is, if a new fire starts this can all shift, but notice how we still see red and orange down through the los gatos areas and the san jose area as well, and we are going to continue to see the elevated fire danger, a red flag warning remains in effect because of gusts upwards of 1,000 feet. over the next seven days, what can we expect? into friday, saturday and sunday we will see smoke lingering into tomorrow and saturday, and breezy conditions heading into saturday. we cool off a little bit saturday into sunday, and then 85 degrees on saturday and sunday, and remember that air

quality advisory remains in effect. let's get a quick look at the roads with mike. we have a news in department that popped up here in san jose, 101 northbound, it's the mckeon ramp and it sounds like a minor crash. we're looking at the rest of the freeways. no problems. the south bay, the peninsula, east bay, very light. wind advisory given overnight for the altamont pass and that's not unusual and we are checking the roads here. on tuesday there was a lot of slowing, and there was traffic control and a work project around the county line north of 580. back to you. >> thank you, mike. 4:42 right now. one website is trying to make sense of the many numbers flying around in the effort to recall

newsom. keep newsom houghers at 49%, a little more than the percentage point of the remove vote. it shows larry elder with a large margin over the rest of the field. the second choice is kevin mcgrath, and he's actually a democrat. >> folks are already voting. more than 3 million people in the bay area requested to vote by mail exclusively. we reached out to each county to see how many have been returned. san francisco has received back the most so far, 35,000. later this week we are set to hear from contra costa county about how many ballots they have gotten back, and we reached out to marin and alameda counties to
