largest u.s. military installations in the world what's thought to be the largest number of americans outside the u.s. and right now so many of those people including family members and active duty soldiers, they are also engaged in what is helping 7,000 evacuees who are being housed here helping to build tents, distribute water and food and even just playing with children and helping keep people's spirits up that's because this is one major obstacle that a lot of these afghan evacuees have to pass on their way to the u.s. so when they arrive here, they're probably already been through some other location like somewhere in tajikistan, possibly an air base in doha and qatar. they've come here as maybe their last step before they're moved on to the united states. many of these people are green card holders or they're passport holders. they're essentially american

citizens once they're here, they're really facing a lack of information. though a lack of nothing else. they are taken care of in terms of food, water, healthcare, clothing and they're put up in essentially pretty good living arrangements but many of them really don't have enough information on when they're going to be allowed to leave, what they need to furnish as proof to get out of here and move onto the united states. and a lot of them are anxious and worried and exhausted as they we wannt from the streets f kabul to another destination the u.s. has hit another grim milestone, surpassing 38 million covid-19 cases, extending the record by a million cases in just six days >> plus, an alarming new trend affecting pregnant women according to a study by the "journal of the american medical association," unvaccinated pregnant women are 15 times more

who can't go through it again are the residents. >> reporter: president biden's recent pledge to mandate vaccine for staff in care facilities will impact nearly 15,000 nursing homes, including the one where sissy sanders' mother lives. while that facility's parent company doesn't have a mandate, it says it has made staff vaccination a priority scott, who runs this care facility in new orleans put in a vaccine mandate last fall. >> did you have any hesitations about losing your staff? >> not really. we made that decision because it was the right decision >> reporter: while ten staff members quit over the policy, some have since returned vaccinated the facility hasn't seen a single resident covid case in 17 months >> they deserve to have the best quality of life at the end of life possible. the vaccine is it. >> reporter: some say a vaccine mandate should apply to the whole healthcare industry, not just nursing homes
