kari hall tracking a storm's path. this is "today in the bay." very good thursday morning to you. thanks so much for joining us. i am laura garcia. >> i am marcus washington. a vaccine mandate for middle and high school students, the school board will vote on it under the proposal students 12 and over will have to be fully vaccinated by october 31st, if not students would have to move to remote learning. the approval of children's pfizer vaccine is expected late next month. the goal is to offer the first dose to 75% of the kids in marin county. >> to do that we are working closely with the marin office of

education, to have school-based clinics as well as one-day larger clinics to make it easy for families to access the vaccine. >> the vaccine will bey have seen no long-term side effects among kids 12 and over who have received that vaccine. the recall is over and now some state democratic lawmakers believe the real work begins to reform california's recall process. the state's recall procedures have been on the books for more than 100 years. you heard me right, 100 years. some argue it's time for a change. the costs for the recall is a little less than $3 million. critics say besides costs there are problems with how the vote works and the ease of getting the recall to the vote. there are new hearings in sacramento and it's possible voters may ultimately decide a

oakland has recovered three guns a day, and some of the recoveries were because of the report from the community. a shooting happened last month on august 25th near fremont boulevard and auto mall parkway. a gun was recovered nearby. fremont police will be releasing video of the incident. and now the wildfire that started the kmp wildfire, and that has more than 2,000 sequoie

return to normal in south lake tahoe. schools are reopening after the caldor fire. city leaders are encouraging people to come back to the south shore. full containment is expected within the next two weeks. 6:36 for you this morning. it's time to get a look at the forecast for you. taking a look right now, meteorologist, kari hall, she has been monitoring everything we talk about when it comes to the fires and smoke and air quality, so kari, how are we shaping up today? >> still going to be smoky today. the air quality advisory continues, and the yellow dots showing us there's moderate air quality, and some of the smoke even up and down the peninsula. we are going to continue to see

hazy conditions but our temperatures are coming down. we're looking at highs in the low 80s in livermore and concord, 81 degrees. 76 in san jose. in santa rosa today, 71 degrees. the air-conditioner gets a rest in the inland areas and that continues into the weekend. we'll talk about rain chances in the forecast. mike, how is it looking for early-morning commuters. >> i have the horrible news i have to report for the north bays, a pedestrian was hit and killed. i don't why somebody was walking on a highway, but east bay 37 right now, it's closed right here at sirius point. you have to use the alternate up 121 to 12 and back over to highway 29 coming down through american canyon and vallejo.

bay we are checking out the brentwood commute. it's going to clear out quickly and we are in for nice temperatures today. we'll talk about the cooldown and where we will see the rain coming up in a few minutes. we're looking at san jose, a live look in the south bay. 280 at highway 17. a easy drive. we'll talk about what is continuing with the commute in the north bay coming up. in the aftermath of the deadly terror attack in afghanistan, the widow of one u.s. marine in the attack has given birth to a baby girl. her father, lance corporal riley mccollum was a marine from wyoming. the baby was born monday at the camp pendleton hospital in ocean side. now los angeles this morning, the skyline there, within that city it has a high

level of covid-19 transmission rate. >> i'm glad to see this one, in fact, because we have got to get those vaccinated people in a safe environment wherever they are and the nonvaccinated people need to know that, you know, this is saving your life. >> the requirement will take affect october 7th and will include any large sporting games including dodgers and galaxy games. the giants today play a matinee. last night brandon belt hit one of the giant's four home runs. they were all solo shots. giants lost it 7-5, and they are ahead of the dodgers that actually won last night.

unchanged after the s&p 500's best day in two weeks. and investors await the latest on jobless claims, so far this . that morning cup of coffee could be costing more for longer, because of strained supplies from producers like brazil and columbia and vietnam. the lockdown in vietnam has strained the global supply of coffee with exports falling over 8.5% in august just from july. the southeast asian country is the world's largest second exporter of coffee. we could be getting closer to a

full forecast for you. meteorologist, kari hall, keeping track of what we can expect. kari, you were saying the magic word, rain. tell us what you know. >> i'm so looking forward to seeing some showers, not all over the contra costa area but nearby and that's good enough for me. we have seen smoke, hazy skies and moderate air quality, that continues today. if you are sensitive to the smoke it's another day where you have to stay in a little bit more, and when you are driving turn the air-conditioning on recirculate. this is looking nice for this afternoon. now, once again we are telling people to limit time outside, but take a look at how nice it's going to be. 75 in cupertino. 80 in morgan hill. martinez reaching 75. 70 in hayward today.

now, we're cooler along the coast and i don't think we will shake the fog in half moon bay, and palo alto, 74 degrees, and san francisco reach into the upper 50s. our north bay temperatures going to 73 in ukiah. the temperatures cooler than normal even ahead of the cold front headed our way. this is going to be bringing the showers saturday into sunday, and it's nice that will be falling in some of the fire areas. we have ten active fires right now across northern california and a lot of these spots look to get from a quarter to possibly three quarters of an inch of rain. we are looking at mostly a trace, maybe up to 0.1 of an inch of rain around santa rosa,

but if you are not around santa rosa you probably won't see too much out of this, and there's a trace of rain and at least there's sprinkles on the garden as we go into sunday. we're still in the low 80s today. our temperatures are coming down, but we have upper 70s and mid-70s for sunday. then look at how the temperatures rebound next week. officially we welcome in fall next wednesday. san francisco will see mostly mid-60s, but it's going to warm up again as we go into the first day of fall. mike, you were tracking breaking news. what is the update? >> we have the eastbound lanes blocked from sirius point. that will be the case until the solano county coroner completes the investigation or the report there. a pedestrian was hit and we have
