right now at 4:30, high fire danger is parts of the bay area. we're tracking gusting winds that have bay area fire crews on edge. a tragic update from the fbi. the body believed to be that of 22-year-old gabby petito found in a national forest in wyoming, as a search for her missing fiancé continues. when a vaccine for children is now expected. welcome to a brand-new workweek

and also to "today in the bay." good morning and thousand for joining us. i am laura garcia. let's get a look at the forecast this morning. kari has a look at the forecast for us. >> there's a red flag warning alert. you see the areas shaded in red in the areas of high fire danger, and we will be in the red flag warning all throughout today, and our valley temperatures headed towards the low 90s and we're going to start to see some of the smoke coming back in, especially by tomorrow. as we look at our forecast for today, temperatures warming up mid-70s for san francisco. we will see the temperatures in the mid-80s for the south bay, 82 for hayward, and 93 in concord as well as 92 in santa rosa. we are going to have hotter temperatures, dry winds as well as some very low humidity so we are monitoring all of the wind gusts that we have this morning as we do see the winds picking

up. i will have more of that in the forecast coming up in a few minutes, laura. as kari mentioned, the red flag warning has residents on alert. >> these two remember when this fire came close to their dublin townhome in august of 2019. >> we live on the back of these homes, and my son and my wife tried to react and call 911. >> with a red flag warning now in effect in the north and east bay hills, levine is reminded of the dangers.

gusts of up to 50 miles per hour are expected in the mountains overnight. >> we will keep an eye on it and we will have to be ready with our essentials. >> the east bay can expect a one-two punch, high winds and low humidity. >> this is the time we normally see our largest, damaging destructive fires is during red flag conditions. we have done some additional things at the regional level, and that means should an incident occur overnight, we are able to get our aircraft up a few hours earlier than they would be available. >> the fire department spokesperson said the public should prepare. >> if you are pulling a trailer,

should be releasing the results. the fbi announcing yesterday remains found at a campground in teton national forest are believed to be those of petito. she disappeared in august in the middle of a cross-country trip with fiancé, brian laundrie. in the meantime the fbi is asking for privacy for petito's parents. >> as every parent can imagine, this is an incredibly difficult time for the family and friends. our thoughts and prayers are with them. we ask that you all respect the privacy as they mourn the loss of their daughter. >> a search for laundrie continues at a wildlife preserve in florida. coming up on the "today"

show, more information on the case. then the city moves to move street closure permanent. expanded pandemic protections will be evaded today. the ban on evictions is set to expire at the end of the month, and it's for residential renters in unincorporated areas. firefighters have their hands full fighting fires in two different parts of sequoia park. this is video of the knp fire,

and it's believed lightning sparked those fires last week, and they have burned about 40,000 with no containment. so far there are reports that many sequoia trees have been saved. they have been wrapping trunks with the trees. >> with aluminum foil. >> yeah. i grew up in that neck of the woods so hoping everything is okay. we are watching out with the potential of high winds and low humidity as we start out this morning. we have a threat of fires that could start would spread quickly. take a look at the wind speeds and the forecast we are expecting for today. i will stop it here at noon. we are seeing the winds coming in from the north, a dry wind and the winds in the parts of north bay at 25 miles per hour,

and where you see reds and purples, that indicates higher wind gusts that could reach close to 50 miles per hour for today. when you have these kinds of conditions with the heat that is also going to be moving in, any fires that spark could move quickly so we have to be very careful for today. we are under the red flag warning. we'll talk more about that coming up in a few minutes. mike, already early this morning you are tracking something in the east bay. >> yeah, but only in the east bay. looking over here, the bay bridge half empty, and richmond bridge, and contra costa valley, taking a longer drive, and then no problems here, just a mild typical little of slowing out of the altamont. two instances popped up in the

good monday morning. we are under a microclimate weather alert as the humidity drops today in parts of the north bay. we could see single digit relative humidity, critically dry air along with gusting winds and high temperatures. a live look at san jose shows you the 101 traffic. one of the crashes i found was on a surface street, so no major issues. checking on 87, coming up. good morning. stocks are set to plunge this morning. dow futures dropping more than 600 points after the index notched three straight weeks of losses for the first time since september of 2020. the move came as stocks in hong

good monday morning to you. hope you are coming off a great weekend as we take a live look outside. the iconic golden gate bridge, and many people travel the world to see the iconic bridge here. what a cheat for us to get to wake up to it every morning. have a good weekend? >> yeah. you? >> too short. >> we're waking up to the red flag warning? >> yeah, we go back to dry conditions and our winds are picking up during the overnight hours. all of these areas shaded in red under the red flag warning continues through 8:00 this evening. as of now humidity is still high but the winds are picking up in some of the hills and that is

going to dry out vegetation that may have gotten showers over the weekend. 88 in los gatos and 87 in gilroy. we're cooler the past few days, but now 78 for a high in oakland today. half moon bay reach into the low 70s today. san francisco in the mid-70s downtown. 90 in novato. air quality, we're good today but then here we are by tomorrow morning. we will start to seat reds and yellows on here indicating slightly to moderate unhealthy air quality. what is happening we are seeing the smoke rolling up from the southern sierra to the sequoias in the bay area, and we will watch out for those areas burning in the bay area. as we go into the weekend it will be dry all throughout the week, but take a look for our

weekend forecast, it's possible we could see rain in those areas dealing with the very large fires, so if we could just hold back some of the fires away from those critical zones, hopefully we do get relief going into the weekend. we do have to deal with the hot temperatures, highs reaching into the low and mid-90s the first couple of days this week, and then we go into fall. then we still see the hot temperatures in the forecast up until this weekend. we reach into the mid-80s in the inland areas. san francisco will be in the mid to upper 70s the next couple of days. first day of fall on winter -- on wednesday, i should say, and then we will see temperatures cooling off over the weekend. mike, you are looking at a full moon. >> yeah, i am supposed to be looking at the roads, and i am, i am. look at the water glistening off

of it. i can take time to look at that view because look, green everywhere. even out of the altamont pass, just a tiny brake tap there, which is typical. there were reports of wires down across 87 at taylor, and i think there was flashing lights heading away from the scene, and everything is clear now. got the news from sean in the news room. thank you, sean. contra costa down towards 580 at regular speeds. >> thank you. and then scaled down to just 100 attendees for this event. it will be outside. people will have to show proof of vaccination and get tested every day they are there.
