took it in. but overall, what grade would you give jimmy garoppolo? >> i would give jimmy garoppolo a c minus in this game the first half with all the underneath throws. not really pushing the ball down field. putting the ball in harm's way, almost getting it intercepted but in the second half, he did come alive but we saw what happens when you don't have a running game. it puts so much pressure on the quarterback to be perfect and it was difficult for jimmy tonight. they koonlt pull out the win but i think moving forward, you probably will see more of trey lance. >> aaron rodgers has been criticized a lot this season. a, for his performance in week one. and then, also, let's be honest, he hasn't been mr. warm and friendly with the media. people have said he's -- he's pouting or maybe he hasn't been, um, i don't know, the best teammate. he certainly looked like a good teammate tonight. >> yeah. he looked like an excellent teammate tonight and you see it. he was wheeling and dealing. he made it so easy for them. even on that one there, they are lining in the coverages.
8:51 pm
i felt like coming into this game, one was to disguise until four to six seconds left on the clock. so many times out there when they wanted to bring zone blitzes, man blitzes, they lost their poise. he got them with the hand check. made them show the defense. he was able to check to the hot route and then when they went empty, they aligned in the coverages and he knew exactly where to go. and the defensive back panicked when they weren't in position. >> so aaron rodgers, still, with a lot in the tank. all right. let's check in with the right connection. the right connection is sponsored by t-mobile. brandon. one catch for six yards in the first two games. today, targeted six times. four catches for 37 yards. he was injured in camp. he was supposed to be the number one guy going in. maybe, this was his breakout game. why wasn't he used better the first two games and why is he being used better now? >> well, he was coming off an injury and now he is healthy. and he's starting to come alive.
8:52 pm
i thought he would be a star studded number one bona fide receiver going into this year. but somewhere along the line, kyle shanahan is a master motivator. so he wants to, you know, make him believe that he has to compete for his job. tonight, he did come alive a little bit but he just didn't make enough plays to be able to get the 9ers over the hump. >> i heard a theory. i don't know if you agree with it. under nick mullens, who throws a deeper ball. and garoppolo maybe, you know, doesn't throw the deep ball as well. maybe, it's garoppolo who's not targeting him as much as opposed to shanahan? >> maybe, it is. and guys are asking like what's going on with brandon? he is a bona fide number one wide receiver. being at training camp, i thought that he had an amazing training camp. but somehow, they just can't get him the football so they going to have to figure out ways to get him the ball down the field. and maybe, that's where trey lance come into play. >> we will take our first break. when we come back, we will hear from kyle shanahan, the head

who is on the ball. ten rushes, 31 yards. he did have a touchdown. what did you think of 28, daunte? >> i thought in the first half, he -- he didn't do much. in the second half, he started to find those holes. not going to get it done. especially, when kyle shanahan's offense is predicated on running the ball, getting flash plays on the ground. then, using the rpo game, play action game, and the defense for green bay.
8:56 pm
they weren't fighting on any other faith. so that's why it was tight coverage. they loaded the box and they dared jimmy to beat them tonight. >> and one of the reasons rogers had a better game is because green bay had a better rushing game. >> yeah, they were able to utilize the quick passing game. and took the shots down the football field where they felt need to be. >> kyle shanahan, after the 49ers lose at home to the green bay packers. >> all right, guys. injuries, we have josh norman with a chest, didn't return. dante had a stinger. he came back in. >> with josh's injury, is that -- that peck injury? >> yeah, chest injury. >> is it severe? >> not sure. yeah. >> katelyn? >> just calf. he did early in the game and couldn't come back, so not sure anything more than that. but always worried when it's a calf and couldn't come back in. >> okay. thank you. >> when he scored there at the end, even though they didn't
8:57 pm
have any timeouts, did you feel there was maybe too much time knowing who was on the other side there? >> yeah, you always worry with aaron on the other side. that's why we didn't use any time-outs. we were hoping to take it down. >> obviously, you wanted to score there. but was that play call designed just to get closer? was it -- did you think it had a chance to go? >> i mean, i think he hit the last kind of progression on the check down just had hell of an effort running up to the catch. >> we will take a break. when we come back on xfinity sports sunday, we'll look ahead to the seahawks. 49ers in seattle in week four. >> we will continue our postgame coverage in just a few minutes live here from levi's stadium. also, a big decision this week an update about kids and vaccines. and wet weather might be coming through the bay area. we'll see you in just a minute.

9:01 pm
they were tonight with the movement that he can give you and their defense. they're historically good but they haven't been getting it done. so the 49ers are going to have to steal some possessions, find a way to manufacture some rushing yards and get trey lance in the game. >> arizona and the rams, two of the undefeated teams remaining in the nfl. this used to be the biggest rivalry. we remember richard sherman when he was in seattle eating thanksgiving dinner at mid-field right here at levi stadium. is it still a good rivalry? >> it is still a great rivalry. this is the best division in football. nfc west. and you have to know that after losing this week, seattle's going to come in here hungry. they're going to see everything that green bay did to the 49ers tonight. and they're going to try to duplicate it. so they are going to have to put this one behind them. not let one loss turn into two losses, come out and be ready to get a win versus seattle next week. >> many pick the 49ers to win the nfc west at the beginning of the season. were you one of them? and do you still protect them to win? >> i was one of them that predicted the 49ers to win the nfc west but after what l.a. did

sunday night football here on nbc. the 9ers' first home game of the regular season. it came down to the last second. >> if the game ended with 43 seconds remaining -- >> the 9ers would have won. >> but right now, 70,000 people walking to the parking lot a little disappointed. like we said, it was a gut punch. >> yeah. 9ers, 2-1 now. and aaron rodgers just unbeatable tonight. he just showed that he had it all. >> aaron rodgers comes home. devonte adams comes home and lights up the bay area, where they're come. let's get to kyle shanahan in just a few minutes but radio right now let's show you the scene and the hype. it was so cool to see. 49ers. janelle, the 1994 throwback jerseys. the last time the 9ers wore these jerseys, that '94 season. the last time they won the super bowl. and who was part of that team? >> jerry rice. yeah. also, here at the game, joe staley. he was pumping up fans at the fog horn. he loves the fans, the fans love

players we have on our team. some great individual efforts of guys just making unbelievable plays that got us in and gave us a chance to win that game. but some of the mistakes that we made throughout the game. um, you don't win a lot of football doing that and that's what we got to clean up. >> you had the big three pass interference against you, did you think guys were reaching a little bit? >> some of them, yeah. some of them, i disagreed with. some seemed like i realized they were going to call them. stuff we hope for too on our side. >> it looked like sampson maybe got held on that 25-yard throw to devonte adams. how do you react to -- how do you assess penalties in a game like this? >> you don't. you just deal with it and you just have to live with it and we have had to deal with those for a long time. >> [ inaudible ] very quick exchange. is that just emotions? i know you guys are normally closer. >> yeah, i think i was just pissed about the game ended on the last play and wasn't trying to hang out too long in the middle of the field. >> okay.
9:08 pm
can't really sugarcoat that. >> no. >> kyle shanahan, disappointed. ticked off to lose that game. as the clock expired here in front -- >> i last few seconds. but, you know, they did put in trey lance for one play that was pivotal right before the half. >> yeah, he had some action. that first half was rough to watch if you are a 49ers fan. they were lethargic, they were sluggish. jimmy g not getting it done but yes, right before halftime, trey lance, the rookie comes in. that short little touchdown scamper. and that's how they want to use these guys ideally. trey lance comes in. they go into half-time trailing 17-7. really, everyone thought was going to be 17-0. that was a huge play. >> that was pivotal to get the energy back in the second half. now, they got to focus on seattle when they host seattle at levi's next week. well, but it was just a great night for fans. first time back in 20 months. last time they were here, they were facing green bay at the nfc championship game in january, 2020.

9:11 pm
once inside, more waiting to get food. >> i hate the lines. >> reporter: but there were plenty of flavors to try as the 49ers introduced several new local restaurants as they upgrade their food choices. and of course, since the 9ers played the green bay packers, there were plenty of cheese heads roaming the stadium. with great weather, tailgating, and a chance to see their team play in person again, this was a day for the history books. >> yeah, i loved it. the tailgate family. love being at levi stadium. cooking out in here. what more can you ask for? >> reporter: what could be better? one of the coolest things i saw was 9ers fans and packers fans, together, tailgating. sharing food. sharing drinks. sharing laughter. it felt like a football family, instead of a big rivalry. and that's really cool to see, especially since this is the 9ers '75th anniversary. a lot of fun out here, even if the 9ers lost. back to you.

the dose given to children would be one-third of what adults are given. now, also predicting a return to normal life within a year. what would that mean? he says that will include new variants of covid to deal with, which is why annual vaccinations will likely be needed to keep the virus in check. those comments match up with predictions from the ceo of moderna, as well. a covid deadline looming at some colleges across the state. starting thursday, the cal state university system will be requiring that all students, faculty, and staff be fully vaccinated for in-person learning. that policy follows similar ones at campuses across the country, including the uc system. >> all right. let's get back out to raj and janelle. they are out there having the time of their lives, well, except for the loss out there it at levi stadium. >> so close. >> so close. >> it was close. >> thank you. so next, we are going to check in with aaron rodgers who obviously was so fired up coming back home to northern california and the guy he targeted all night was devonte adams from

9:24 pm
so cooling trend around here is going to stick around for the next couple days and i do want to talk about your microclimate highs for tomorrow. and also, of course, those rain chances. so we are going to be topping out in the 70s for tomorrow. take a look at concord. 77 degrees. san jose, 73. in through oakland, 67. and of course, san francisco, 66. but it's going to be nice to see some rain on radar. so right now, we have our very own storm ranger with our mobile doppler radar. it is up and scanning. now, the radar is pretty quiet around here but if you look up to the north, this is what we are monitoring and what we're tracking. the chance of rain. we have got a frontal system that's also going to pass by and it's going to kick down our overnight lows into the 40s. and it's going to kick up the winds heading in towards monday and, also, tuesday. so let's talk about the hour-by-hour outlook. if you live north of the golden gate bridge, you're probably going to be the first to see it. near sonoma. although, it's not going to be much of a downpour. more like couple hundredths of
9:25 pm
an inch. however, pushing through monday into tuesday, there is a chance that we could even see some light rain. maybe some drizzle for areas including the south bay. also, the santa cruz mountains. so we will take what we can get at this point. if you notice, we have also got that system passing through the sierras. so this is also going to help when it comes to some of those active wildfires burning in the area. as the north starts to push through in terms of the system, we will start to see the gusty conditions also kicking up. the good news, though, is that we are going to see high humidity levels which means the elevated-fire danger starts to go down thanks to higher-humidity levels. the conditions aren't expected to be as dry but it'll still be windy. gusting upwards of 40, 45-plus miles per hour, especially for the higher elevation areas. we stick with that cooling trend through tuesday and wednesday. and then, just looking out ahead at our weather pattern. so topping out only in the 70s for monday and tuesday. look what starts to happen into thursday, friday, and saturday. we get a ridge of high pressure
9:26 pm

i love playing alongside of him. i think deebo's grown. i mean, he can -- he's not just out there running, you know, he -- he's added -- he can run a lot of different routes. he's doing a great job attacking the ball. that last third down was a hell of a play. and you got to have guys like that -- have to have guys make plays like that if you want to be -- be in these games. you know, against a really good opponent. so, you know, proud of the wide receivers, proud of the whole team really. just came up short. >> couple more. >> technical adjustments at halftime to be more productive in the second half. did you also have mental adjustments? seemed like you came -- you came out -- >> i mean, i think we have really good offense. we just got to get the ball rolling. i think we really struggled on third downs early and just couldn't get our momentum going. um, and, you know, that's all second half -- we just made a couple plays, made a couple plays. stayed on the field. gave our defense a break and that is a all it was. we finally got to go out there and play football when you have three to five-play drives, you can't really call the plays.

one where i thought jimmy could have helped from the back side but he didn't. another one was to the rookie in the slot. too many times, the 49ers secondary just lined up and allowed aaron rodgers to read their mail before it was open. making it extremely easy for him to locate where he wanted to go with the football. and he completed the passes. again, another thing is the offense. not being able to run the football. we knew that they would have issues coming into the game with limited running backs. guys being injured. guys being hurt. and when deebo samuel and kyle is your number one rusher, you know it's going to be a long day. but jimmy garoppolo came through in a time of need in the fourth quarter but they just left too much time on the clock. and another thing is execution down the stretch. that's what ended up hurting this team. fred warner. the middle linebacker had an
