these spills, we'll continue to see them >> reporter: we also know the city of laguna beach closed its beaches asking locals and visitors to stay away from the water. i'm lauren coronado for "early today. the supreme court is returning today for their fall term, which is expected to tackle some extremely de ly div issues on saturday proshgs tess fors rallied for reproductive rights next to the court steps. more than 600 similar marches took place across the country. time to raise awareness about abortion rights just before the justices hear one of the biggest challenges to roe versus wade in decades. we're joined now by chris pallone. there are a lot of high stake cases on the docket this term. >> reporter: frances, this court is posed to weigh in on some of the nation's most impactful and

controversial social issues. on abortion, the court will hear arguments about a mississippi law that would ban terminating pregnancies after 15 weeks today, states can limit abortions around 24 weeks. that new texas law banning abortion after six weeks will also reach the court's document. on gun control, the justices could decide whether states can limit people's ability to carry a concealed weapon outside their homes and challenge the limits of the separation of church and state when it comes to using public funds in schools which teach courses in religion. this year's term will start out today with in-person oral arguments. that's the first time that's happened in 19 months because of the pandemic the new term opens up with the public losing confidence in it a poll found only 40% approve of the job the justices are doing, with 53% disapproving, it signals a historic low in the public's confidence in the court. >> chris, thank you for the update joe biden will hit the road
