ahead that will impact how we head into the workweek. a beautiful shot of san francisco. you saw the fog there in the earlier shot. 53 degrees. so we're comfortable. we are rather cool for the most part, even into the interior valleys. 52 degrees, but we have high pressure but we will be running a few degrees warmer today and then things will cool off a little bit. here's a closer look at the headlines we are monitoring. it will be mostly sunny, but we are going to be seeing dry conditions. there's a fire weather watch in effect starting at 11:00, but the wind advisories have now been bumped up and upgraded to a red flag warning for the north bay mountains, the east bay hills, starting tonight because of those gusty offshore winds, we're talking 50 plus miles per hour. whenever we see gusty winds that lowers our humidity and i will go into full detail about that coming up in a few minutes. >> see you in about 15. a live look in walnut creek and dublin as vianey just

mentioned, gusty winds are moving in. the fire danger has pg&e taking action. if you live in the areas in yellow on this map, you could lose power starting tomorrow. pg&e planned a public safety power shut off for monday. the outages are set to impact customers in alameda, contra costa, solano and napa county. as we look at the san jose airport, the calm after the proverbial storm. yesterday thousands of passengers could not get to their destinations. more than 1,300 southwest airlines flights were delayed or completely canceled. today in the bay's, tom jensen, reports. >> a busier than normal saturday for southwest airline counters, lines backed with passengers they got the distressing news

bright and early. >> when i woke up this morning i got a text saying my flight had been canceled. >> they texted me this morning. >> what did they say? >> the flight was canceled. they were rebooking for tomorrow. >> 11 flights canceled in san jose, and 17 delays. 11 more southwest cancelations at oakland international. they are among hundreds more canceled flights on southwest airlines across the nation. hundreds more delayed as well. >> at first i thought it was rebooked for this morning at 6:30, because i was kind of in a panic, and then i realized they rebooked it for tomorrow. >> it all had to do with weather in florida on friday night, that led to a cancelations do to a faa management program. it led to a domino affect in saturday. meanwhile, passengers told us they can't wait and hope to get on a rebooked flight on sunday.

an east bay man trying to get home from chicago this evening told me he eventually booked a light on another airline and arrived just a short time ago on sfo, a flight that cost him $600, an unexpected expense he plans to take up with southwest, after he gets rest after a long day of traveling. tom jensen, nbc bay area news. uc berkeley police are investigating a hate crime on campus. a car was vandalized in a way that qualifies as a hate crime. it happened on friday in the berkeley hills. the destruction of the car likely was motivated by bias. anybody with information is urged to come forward. more action is being taken to protect members of the asian-american pacific islander community. the oakland china town safety committee yesterday held a clannic to empower the aapi

people with tools and knowledge, and the knowledge came in the formed of safety tips, and the tools were pepper spray and alarms. >> when they were getting off a bus, they were approached by two individuals one coming after my father with a steel pipe, and my father was able to deploy the pepper spray and that saved his life. changes on the way to children sections of large department stores. governor newsom signed a law that makes california the first state to require a gender neutral section. retailers with more than 500 employees must display things like toys and child care items in general neutral ways. separate boys and girls sections

will still be there, and that doesn't apply to clothes. lgbtq advocates say traditional marketing methods pressure children to conform to gender stereotypes. positive news out of southern california, where the coast guard continues to clean up after the massive oil spill in orange county. the impact of the pipeline rupture is not as bad as they expected. environmentalist feared the worst, a long and intense cleanup and it appears the region has been spared the worst. the spill created ribbons of oil rather than one large blotch. >> we have been smaller tar balls, maybe quarter-sized or smaller. a couple larger ones, but really they have been very effective in making sure they are removing the product. >> more than 1,300 people are helping in the cleanup, and orange county beaches and now

some san diego county beaches remain closed. back here locally in a live look at the bay bridge this morning, the city of san francisco not quite as jovial as it was yesterday morning after the giants lost to the dodgers last night. the teams are tied 1-1 in the best of 5 series. business in the city has been booming over the weekend as thousands come in for fleet week, the warriors games and the giants. >> a playoff game luring more than 40,000 baseball fans to oracle park. joining thousands more who came to watch the blue angels soar during fleet week. add in great weather, and you have got a recipe for a big business boost. here at lucky strike bar and bowling alley, fans poured in before, during and after the

welcome to the best coast, of course, i am biassed. on friday we learned the white house blocked an attempt by former president trump to withhold document from congress on the january 6th insurrection. what can we expect to unfold next? >> your best coast meant i had to set a 1:45 alarm. i have not decided if i stayed up late or got up early on that front. i'm learning that. look, i think the issue with this report, and on the one hand it should be alarming. these are trump appointees, who are testifying under oath to the united states congress, and now it's not on camera. we did not see it, and i think that's a big issue here. outlining all the different ways the former president tried to

interfere with the justice department and tried to get them to come down and potentially he was considering firing a bunch of folks, and creating a new acting attorney general, and then at the end, a whole bunch of people close to trump said they would resign if he pulled that off, and he backed down. that's the alarming thing about the report is basically we came this close to having a calamity, a constitutional crisis, and what happens if he gets back into office? right now, it looks like he's the odds on favorite to be the republican nominee in 2024. >> you also have his former press secretary talking about her book, what i saw at the trump white house. that will be a fascinating glimpse. i want to ask you about a glimpse, and is it going to be a back and forth with the

democrats and republicans, the infrastructure bill, the build back better bill, are we just going to be going back and forth like this? >> apparently, unless the democrats come up with a plan to eliminate the debt ceiling issue. there's a couple ways they could do it. i am mildly surprised we have not seen a more vigorous democratic threat to get rid of the hostage, you know, don't allow this to be wep weaponized this anymore. democrats are not proposing to get rid of it, and it does beg the question, do they want this weapon, still? i will be curious to see if there's more of a movement to get rid of it and never have this crisis again. you could give the president to authority to lift the ceiling and have congress stop witness a two-thirds majority. you create a super majority threshold, and we won't have the weaponizations of the political tactics. i do think the strategy of the

neighborhoods participated in yesterday's drill. well, halloween is just 21 days away. but the real scare is what is happening behind the scenes to get costumes and decorations to the stores. supply chain issues are creating major problems for retailers, and customers could end up paying for it. kathy park explains. >> with halloween closing in, a nightmare for retailers is coming a reality. >> it has been a very difficult year to get costumes and decorations in store, in stock. >> demand is ticking up at the chicago costume shop, but thre a a major slowdown getting merchandise on the shelves, from congested ports, to truck driver shortages. the ongoing supply chain issues means products are still stuck in transit. >> we are waiting on 25 to 30% of the merchandise to come in that we previously ordered. some of it won't even come in

sweater, which has been a nice change. the 24-hour temperature change, we are a few degrees cooler in palo alto. your forecasted highs for today, another sunny day. temperatures will be in the mid and upper 70s for the most part. livermore, 77. however, i do want to get to this, because the fire weather watch was upgraded to a red flag warning and that's going to go into effect tonight. let's talk about the incoming changes. we have high pressure sitting over the bay area right now, but if you look ahead at the timeline, monday at 4:00, and we have a trough to the north so temperatures will get cooler. we are expecting rain and snow for the sierra heading into monday. this storm is not going to bring us rain, but it's going to bring us cooler temperatures and also gusty winds from the north-northeast and that's going to kick up the elevated fire danger, which is why, if you notice here, we have yellow and red on the map. the red is red flag warnings

just upgraded, gusts upwards of 60 miles per hour. the yellow, these are fire weather watches and so the entire inland area will see fire danger because it will be gusting, and we are seeing low humidity, and more humidity recovering into the early morning, and here's why. the wind gusts, and you start to notice the 29-mile-per-hour winds, 32 here, and when i fast-forward this, monday around 11:00 to noon, for the most part even though you may not live near a higher elevation area, it will gusting around the coastline. san francisco, look at this, 40-mile-per-hour winds, san jose, 43. we are talking about those winds kicking into the overnight hours. we will see humidity below the

20% mark. napa, 15%. keep in mind it is extremely dry out there. we're going to seat fire watch in effect. the gusty winds stick around through tuesday, and then we see a warm-up head into next weekend. we will keep a very close eye on that. we do have much more ahead on a "today in the bay." coming up, in case you missed it, it was a rough night for the giants dropping game two against the dodgers. anthony flores takes us to the game, next.

giants fans leaving disappointed because the national league division series is tied to one win a piece heading to southern california after the dodgers hammered the giants tonight in game two. let's start on a positive note. among the more than 42,000 fans in attendants tonight at oracle park, actor tom cruise taking

pictures and shaking hands. fans were excited to see tom cruise in the ballpark. already up 1-0 in the second. kris taylor gives the dodgers a 2-0 lead. and then it's enough for flores to tag and store, and cutting the lead in half. then the dodgers break it open, and cody belanger doubles up the base and then two runs score, part of a four-run inning. and then smith smacks a solo home run. l.a. beat the giants 9-2. >> obviously looking forward to turning the page on tonight's game. getting ready for los angeles, not our best effort tonight. the dodgers swung the bats better than us, and made more pitches than us and more plays than us. >> they are a tough team.

warning. if you notice the highlighted red, gusts upwards of 60 plus miles per hour for the higher elevations possible. it's going to get really dry. in addition to that, notice the yellow. we have fire weather watches taking effect tonight. we will see low humidity and poor overnight recovery when it comes to the low humidity. right now we are cool and comfortable, and the wind gusts will really start to kick up in the overnight hours. sunday, 10:00, notice, 20, 25, 30, and if we go into the morning hours from midnight, around noon we see the winds, 40 plus miles per hour, and san francisco, 32. it's going to be confined to the mouareas. we are going to see gusty conditions throughout the entire bay area. those wind advisories are

widespread throughout the entire bay area region. what will happen with the wind, we will dry out. if you are looking at this and thinking, what is considered good humidity? normally want to stay above the 40%. but we don't get much recovery overnight, and we start to fall below 20%, and napa, 16%, and getting even lower through some of the east bay hills, and then take a look at monday, 7:30. we fall below 15% on the humidity scale. over the next seven days, the fire danger will remain all the way through tuesday into wednesday where we start to warm up across the bay area. it's going to be something to watch, kira. >> thank you, vianey. we have much more ahead on "today in the bay," including an incredible coincidence that saved one man's life. first, it's a clear the shelters segment.

welcome back. here's a quick look at the top stories we're following on this sunday morning. southwest airlines experienced major flight cancelations and delays yesterday leaving many bay area customers stranded. according to flight aware, more than 700 flights were canceled and more than 850 were delayed nationwide. southwest says the canceled flights were because of disruptive weather and air traffic control issues, and customer service told customers

to check the flight status. today we are under a fire weather watch in parts of the east bay and the north bay. the fire danger has pg&e taking action as you can see on this map. if you live in the areas in yellow, you could lose power tomorrow. a public safety power shutoff is planned for monday, impacting customers in parts of five bay area counties. alameda, contra costa, sonoma, solano and napa. in some lighter news, thousands of people are expected to pack in to san francisco today for the fleet week air show. you probably have seen the blue angels and other pilots showing off their tricks in the skies the past few days, and some fleet week ships are offering tours. fleet we ends tomorrow. half moon bay is holding its
