>> we saw rain pass through overnight it. was enough to keep the sheen out on the roads. current temperatures right now in the 50s. we're running several degrees warmer at this hour compared to the last 24 hours. look at this. soesz, 15 degrees warmer, livermore, 19 degrees warmer. we expect the temperatures to stay in the mid-60s. as far as your daytime highs, we'll be pretty seasonal. it's going to a period of on and off. popping up a little bit in the north bay, around the coast line, peninsula. and the wind advisory was allow to expire. you see the first and second and third storm expected.

we have our mobile doppler rain scanning on the mountain. i'll talk about how much more rain we're expecting coming up in a few minutes. how about the roads? >> wait. there's more. vianey says there's still some on the roadway. there's sheen that vianey talked about she talked about shiny sheen on the roadway and perhaps slick. do be careful. we have had a good opportunity to get damp roadways. that's at the richmond bridge. over here, there may be a quick traffic break going down to the skyline or skyway toward fifth and harrison. there may be an off-ramp. but everything looks to be running smoothly on the centers right now. show a smooth easy dry.

mid-60s and low 60s around the coastline. the initial system is one of the weaker systems bringing a little under a half inch through most areas through the north bay where we saw higher totals. santa cruz, 62, santa rosa, low 60s. we're not in the clear. we could see a spotty shower or two really throughout the whole day. there's not going to be a downpour, but there could be a period of time you see sprinkles and rain going on. for the most part we're going to see cloud cover. as we head in toward thursday, we're tracking an additional system thursday night into friday and that's going to bring us more rain. also a weaker system, not really a strong one, but it will be

enough to add some moisture and some more rain to our rainfall totals especially after the north bay. it's going to be up to the north bay around the coastal areas and down through the santa cruz. then i'll talk more about the wind-speeds and that third system moving in p. >> right now we have the leftovers from overnight at the golden gate bridge. a little slick on the roadways, but no major concern. this took place for about two minutes. all the crews on 101 is cleared. great stuff. we may have a traffic break going on. it sounds like the disabled vehicle may be a tow truck. we'll track that. no major problems.

oculus under the larger pair company. he's tounting augmented classes that touting augmented glasses that he thinks will be as popular as smartphones. trucks are trying to unload at a trucking company, which is holding a lot near the port of l.a., one of which crashed trying to make a tight turn. warehouses are full, so there's nowhere else to take them. some neighbors say they're fed up. >> i had two trucks coming down here, so i beat them to the point where they couldn't come through here. >> you used your trash can to block the street. >> yes. i used my body too. >> port officials are trying to move waiting cargo ships as

the wind advisories were allowed to expire, but the spotty rain chance will continue. upper 60s for the south bay. 63 degrees for oakland. san francisco, 62. so this first system panned out exactly as we thought. wednesday into thursday, we're going to keep some of that instability at times catching some of that rain. late thursday into early friday, we get our second storm. and this was also going to be more focused toward the north bay around the coastline and also some of those coastal mountains. not so much in inland areas. however, the seven-day forecast shows us our best chance of rain starts to move in not tomorrow night. that's going to be the second storm. we'll keep that scattered shower chance. more like saturday night into sunday. if it tapped into that atmospheric river moisture, we're expected to see good accumulation.

also snow. sunday into monday, that's going to be hopefully our rainmaker. your hour-by-hour outlook again, we're going to see the scattered shower chances. not pouring. at times you'll catch a drizzle or two if you're going to be out and p. keep a coat handy, at least one that has a hoodie. that's for sure. mike, let's get a check of the roads? >> they're mostly damp. golden gate bridge givens you an example of that. cars go by. you see the tread. that's what the tread is for. no major problems or spinouts. we do have this issue, chp keeps warning about the potential for a traffic brag there. keep that in mind. these two popped up. we'll check on that.

nearly 100 officers temporarily off streets. the new response to the city's vaccine mandates and the possibility jobs could be on the line. this is "today" in the bay. a very good wednesday morning. i want to say it's thursday. i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. october 20th for you, and we have much more to get to this morning. a big story today. another storm system moving in. a live look outside in san bruno. this is the storm ranger. looks hard to see, that's our storm ranger tracking those conditions for us. i want to get a look ahead. vianey arama in for kari hall. you've been watching the storm closely. >> simply because we haven't had rain in a very long time. we have the first to move in late last night. kicked up some of those winds and the wind advisory has been

canceled. i want to show you a little bit of your travel commute. we have a chance of seeing scattered amounts. temperatures will be in the 60s this afternoon. then as we roll around into the later portion of tonight, we're going to get a break from the rain. heading into thursday, we've got plenty of instability. this is going to bring in our second storm heading into thursday night and friday morning. so far we've only gotten a couple hundreds of an inch. we're hoping for better rain totals heading into saturday's storms. now let's get a check on how the roads are doing with mike. >> not so bad. maybe slicker in some spots. in san jose, pretty dry. the traffic did build up for the shot.

a cash north of 101, shy of the 180 transition ramp. as i understand, it's out of the lanes. it's an important time for the south bay. the rest of the bay is pretty smooth. damp roadway. where you see the green highlights, a few patches along the bay. no major issues. the san mateo bridge got a little wind advisory. a couple of crashes reported, but they have the same details. one's reported this way. one that way. either way, it's outside the tunnel. a single-car spinout. watch those speeds. slow down because there may be an issue with traction. mild slowing at the bay bridge. same thing for highway 37. the green highway for north bay.

we may have damp roadways as well. back over to you. >> slow it down this morning. thanks, mike. california's drought entering a dire new phase. this as the governor's office is expanding the emergency drought declaration to include the entire state. today bob redell has more. bob, this is barely a start, right? >> reporter: unfortunately not enough. we had a little spilt out here spittle out here in san wra moan. this is video from last night in san francisco where they did have some rain come down, but you heard the amounts from vianey. it's well under an inch. but forecasters are predicting more rain tomorrow and friday around then an atmospheric river on sunday. all told it could dump an inch

and a half. we'll make up for all the water california lost over the summer following some of the driest amounts of record. we put together the latest information from the groft drought monitor. it shows that most of the state including bay area is either under an exceptional drought or extreme drought in one of those situations. yesterday the state warned that one of the state's largest reservoirs in mendocino county could run dry by next summer. we learned that californians lowered their water usage by 3.5% in july and august. that's far from the 15% reduction governor gavin newsom requested last year. yesterday he expanded the drought situation to include the entire area. this declaration will allow state water officials to mandate water restrictions which include cleaning your car or filling a

decorative pond, things like that. bob redell, "today in the bay." >> so much water needed across the bay. developing this morning, 40 sfwrans police officers are on leave and more may follow. all are not yet vaccinated for covid. >> today we look at what's next for those officers. >> reporter: we told you there was a mandate to receive the vaccination. the deadline has passed and we're doing the follow-through. our investigative unit has pulled some numbers, and this is what we know about the officers who have not received their vaccinations. 40 san francisco officers have been placed on leave because they have not received their covid-19 vaccine. we learn that 59 other unvaccinated officers already on

leave for other reasons could be placed back on leave if they return to work without being vaccinated. right now we're being told this is a pathway to termination. so in all it could be 99 officers. if you're curious, that's 5% of the 2,100-member force at risk of losing their job. this morning we're hearing from the police union representing these members who responded to those placed on leave, reating, unfortunately the city's rush to terminate officers will make our city less safe. the stay has botched and bungle ed things up. san francisco is expressing a shooting, a retail theft epidemic and this will make things worse. again, this coming from the police union that represents the

san francisco police department. mayor london breed took to social media to report 99 officers are on track to lose their job. i'm proud to report that over 96 of our nearly 35,000 workers are vaccinated and i want to thank them for doing their part. we'll continue to work with all employees who aren't vaccinated. i don't want to lose a single worker, nobody does. i won't sacrifice the safety of the work force and the public. covid is not going away. we need to be prepared for the future. she also said employee not vaccinated will be suspended without pay. they can be separated from the city, so that would be that next step.

this, of course, is a story we'll continue to follow as it impacts all of us. we're live in san francisco, cierra johnson, "today in the bay." county leaders are seeking to follow san francisco in easing mask mandates. the exemption would apply to fully vaccinated groups with up to 100 people. that includes officers and other workplaces, gyms, fitness centers, inside employee vehicles and other groups that meet readily. 5:39 right now. we've got new details on the rollout for covid vaccinations for children 5 and older. the cdc may give the green light in a matter of a few weeks. the white house is getting ready, telling the "today" show, parents need to be fully informed about the decision. >> we want to make sure that parents have answers to their question, that they have

expect. we'll show you how things are shaping up outside the tunnel. happening today, some netflix employees are staging a walkout at the hollywood offices. they're angry about dave chappelle's standup new special. it's been criticized by some lgbtq groups as being transphobic. we're looking at this fiery crash near houston. it's amazing. yesterday during takeoff the plane ran off the runway, rolled through a fence, and as you seeker it caught on fire. amazingly, all 21 people on board escaped and they survived. the charter plane was heading to boston for the game between the astros and red sox. they stopped short of calling it a miracle.

a huge dent in our drought monitor, but it will ease some of those wildfire concerns heading into the weekend especially. san jose, a great shot there. we had a system that moved in late last night into early -- you know, into today. overall we saw a couple hundreds of an inch. we have another system rolling through into tomorrow night. we're going to keep the spotty rain chance or two. livermore, a high of 66. san jose, 67. san francisco in the low 60s, and half moon bay, 678. overall let's talkin' your sierra snow. this is also a welcome sight. we got a lit bit of a dusting. this is sierra snow. looking at this with our third system. so sunday into monday we're going to get another chance of seeing at least a decent amount of snowfall that's going to help us out here.

the rain outlook, the biggest storm looks to be saturday night into sunday, all day sunday into monday. so taking a look at this. you can see we've got quite a bit of moisture, but what we're really paying attention to is if it taps into that atmospheric river, if it does, we could get rain in the north bay. cooling a little bit saturday and sunday. we have a coot front attached to that. looking ahead to next monday and tuesday, notice the temperatures stick to the 60s for inland areas. san francisco, low 60s as well. but one thing's for sure. we're keeping the active weather pattern ated. let's check on the roads with mike. >> looking toward the bay bridge, our view from emeryville. you notice the lights but they're a little dim because of

the mist and low clouds moving through. we're seeing a little slowing on the bridge. as you head over to san francisco, you have that disabled vehicle affecting the off ramp. a little bit of the roadway with larger pudding. puddling. north of there, the green shows you where there are rhett roadways. our road sensors, the speed sensors jamming up toward wilder. there may be two crashes. another was reported eastbound. that was a wrong direction. again, this is outside the tunnel. slowing toward the bay bridge and the slower drive continues toward 101, heading up approaching 680/280 and the
