3:03 pm
obviously some of that is spilling over to the stadium. one two punch of winds and rain. heavy rain half-moon bay. downtown san francisco. these are rain rates of about a half inch per hour. so that's enough to cause spot flooding. you add all this up. it's been going on since sunrise. still in the north bay you can see the moderate to heavy rain pushing to the out. estimated rainfall so far with this particular storm. the dark red. average of four to six inches of rain. we past ds half way point of storm. flash flood warnings up. for another 30 minutes or so. redwood creek. also out towards millic creek. and ma rin county.

center of the river. when it started rapidly rising. we understand they were camping there. this is this morning by the first bridge. so the rescue crews hopped on a small boat, picked up the people. and took them to safety. we talked to one of the men rescued and says the water seemed to just suddenly just come out of nowhere. >> it came so fast. there's no hope. it come fast. like you would not believe. >> luckily they were all right. >> continue our team coverage in san francisco. christie smith live n. city. damage caused by the rain and wind too. >> it really is a mess out here in the city. we were on the way to another report of a tree down when we saw this. lanes are blocked here. we're on columbus at broad way. you can see there's a large branch that is sitting over head wires. across the street there.
3:06 pm
there is damage to the signal light. crews have been responding to scenes like this throughout the day here in the city. one block neighbors were evacuated because a large tree began leaning towards homes. >> the rain didn't let up in san francisco battering roads and making for dangerous driving conditions. in the city, large branchs snapped. south of market, scaffolding collapsed. firefighters believe wind was a factor. and in the forest hill area, firefighters were called in. >> we responded and noted this rather large 100 foot tree was leaning. and threatening houses. down slopes. >> homes on the block were evacuated. >> the combination with an older tree. yeah. the winds. especially during the night were high winds. and did seem to effect the branchs and such. the root structure is in tact. so it's not a fall danger.
3:07 pm
however we're exercising caution. >> this couple was in ma rin county last night and came back home to find this. >> come and get valuable out of here. we can't even sleep. our bedroom is right there. >> nearby was closed after a tree fell. and the rain didn't stop. >> and we're back here live. i reached out to public works to see how they're doing. they are basically dozens of trees down in the city. crews working non-stop. going from location to location. trees blocking lanes. bridging down power lines. and obviously paying close attention to the ones that are leaning towards the home. what they are telling me is that crews will continue responding to these situations. and then of course when the rain does eventually stop they'll move to the clean up. >> a lot going on. thank you. right now thousands of pg&e

customers in the dark because of the storm. there's no surprise there. here is a look at the current outage map. the red spots are where the most outages are. and the biggest red spot is in foster city. we haven't been able to get a current total. we're working on it. at 10:00 a.m. there were 38,000 customers without power. and are more right now. >> of course we'll continue to track the storm. as it moves throughout the bay area. in the meantime when we're not on the air you should have our app. you can get up to the minute forecast and access that live radar. that will gif you a time line of where the rain is heading. >> let's take you outside. a look at the stadium. you can barely see the stadium. 49ers will be playing in that stadium. in a rain soaked area in just a couple hours. >> let's bring in raj. at the soggy stadium. where crews are working over time to get the field ready to play. >> thank you.

we are here in the elements. i'm not sure how many of the seats will be filled. the gates opened about 45 minutes ago. and i think it might be a light crowd to say the least. the mvps already. those guys in the corner of the ends zone. that's the field crew. they have been out here for more than an hour. just raking the water. sweeping the water off the tarp. and if you look above the field crew, you can see the flags here. it is windy. not only will it be muddy and rainy. but windy. and will effect a lot o things. the fans and attendance. offense and defense and special teams. for me, let's get out of the rain here. i'll come closer to the camera. here's what's happening in the stadium. outside the stadium, that famous candle stick style tailgating happening here. rain or shine. these are the 49er die hards. having some fun. we walked through the parking lot a short while ago. it's the normal scene.
3:10 pm
just not the thousands of people this time maybe the hundreds. they are having a good time. in terms of the pregame tailgate. >> it's supposed to be the worst at the start of the game. when i have told. i don't look at anything people tell me stuff. you deal with it when it comes. hopefully the weather people are aren't totally right. but i don't know whether it's an advantage or disadvantage. i will after the game. >> okay, coach. our meteorologists are always accurate. as forecasted the rain is here. and will continue throughout the game. we should noept the 49ers were practicing with wet footballs throughout the week. to simulate the game conditions. one more thing to add in terms of lightning. that would be the only thing to delay the game. so far no lightning or minimal chances throughout the evening. looks like it is game on. a third note, the back up quarterback tonight is not tray lance. he's out.
3:11 pm

3:13 pm

eeheyd to do tonight to win. >> two things that come to mind when i think about the how the 49ers will be able to win this game. number one, they have to win the running game battle. mitchell, hasty. both are back. they will carry the load of the carries and have to be effective in this ground game. the weather is not conducive to throwing the ball all over the place. they have to win the turn over battle. when you look at the 49ers as a total team, they are minus five. at the bottom tier of the league. taking care of the football and actually taking the football away from the opposing team. if they are able to do this, this will make the 49ers job much easier. and i truly believe they will come out victorious. >> we love seeing him. warm and dry inside the studio. here in the elements, 49ers and colts kick off at 5:20.
