washington, d.c. chris, good morning. >> today, an fda advisory panel takes up pfizer's application for emergency use of its covid-19 vaccine in children between the ages of 5 and 11 the drugmaker says its vaccine is safe and more than 90% effective in children that age pfizer is preparing to send millions of doses to pediatricians, school districts, and pharmacies children will need two shots about three weeks apart. each dose is one-third of an adult dose if approved by the fda this week, the cdc will take up the application next tuesday and wednesday, meaning children over 5 could be getting vaccinated by late-next week if the cdc director signs off but it's unclear whether parents will be lining up to get their kids vaccinated. a recent kaiser family foundation poll showed only 30% of parents plan to get their children vaccinated right away as pfizer prepares to ship doses of vaccines for young children, moderna has announced that in preliminary data, its vaccine has shown robust immune response

welcome back the house has passed a bill to award the congressional gold medal to the 13 u.s. service members who were killed in a bomb blast outside the kabul airport in august. the medal has been given out less than 200 times throughout history. the bill was co-sponsored by a bipartisan group of more than 300 lawmakers. the legislation says the troops went above and beyond the call of duty to protect u.s. citizens and our allies that bill now goes to the senate honoring a soldier we never knew who became a symbol for so many others a century ago. aaron gilchrist is in france with those who serve
