laura garcia has the day off. we will look at your weather and traffic in a moment, and things are quiet there so we want to get to the other top story. pfizer, a smaller dose of the vaccine is being recommended for emergency use in children age 5 to 11, and many agencies are talking about the rollout plans. >> yeah, today at the bay's cierra johnson is live with a look at what is next and how parents are reacting to this. cierra? >> reporter: the emergency authorization was approved 17- olympic 17-0. this will be a vaccination site for kids 5 to 11, and they have had this on the schedule pending the approval. kids will be able to receive those vaccinations here, and it's not just schools that are

working. the state agencies are also working to solidify their plans this afternoon. the california health and human services agency and california department of public health will hold a briefing to discuss the state's plan to vaccinate children 5 to 11. as planning gets under way, take a look at this information. 34% of parents said they would vaccinate right away. 32% said they wanted to wait and see. 7% said they would only vaccinate their children if it was required. 24% said they would definitely not vaccinate their child. in regard to that rare occurrence of the heart

condition, fda scientists wrote in a briefing document that the risk of vaccine outweighed the dangers of hospitalization, death or any serious outcomes, and with that being said, one stanford doctor said the fact that children can get the vaccine in their own doctor's office should help with the hesitancy. >> the main point is that this vaccine prevents symptomatic cases, and while people may think it's not a serious illness, this disease can cause hospitalizations, children on ventilators. the risk is much lower than in adults, but as a parent myself of three adult children, i wouldn't want to take that risk if i have a safe and effective alternative. >> reporter: it is important to note that school districts and state superintendents are also thinking about how they can incorporate their agencies into the vaccination process. tomorrow at 11:00, state superintendent, tony thurman,

will announce work centered on a campaign to rollout pop-up vaccination clinics at is the school age receiving that vaccine, so we will be hearing what schools across the state will be doing to help inoculate their children. this here will be one of the vaccination sites. we will keep you briefed every step of the way. live in mill valley, cierra johnson for "today in the bay." >> thank you. oakland unified will be laying out requirements for the new vaxxing mandates. the board recently voted to require all students ages 12 years old and up to get vaccinated by january 1st. tonight the board will discuss the alternative students that don't get the shot. if they don't transfer to independent studies, and if they

don't transfer they could be unenrolled. despite the high vaccination rate in marin county, the public health officer says mask mandates will stay in place, at least for now. in a statement, the county is at moderate transmission rates. earlier this month the county joined forces with other bay area counties studying guidelines of when they would lift the mask restrictions. this morning the south bay could soon join a list of hospitals creating a list of long-term covid symptoms. valley medical center is looking to create a clinic to help patients with long hauler syndrome. right now the center is awaiting

recommendation of physicians before it proceeds. ucsf and stanford have similar clinics in place. developing now, youtube has revealed that it removed more than 120,000 sexually explicit videos involving children just this year. today in the bay's chris pallone joins us from washington, d.c. the executives from youtube and snapchat, they face tough questions. >> kris, that's right. good morning. the top executives from platforms that are hugely popular with younger teens along with youtube defended their practices, arguing that they do protect kids and tried to separate themselves from

facebook. >> snapchat was a decidedly different platform where people could come and talk to the friend that they have in real life. we do not support features such as comments or live chat. >> what can they platforms do to protect teens? congress could do more like implementing stricter privacy laws, and maybe banning like buttons and allowing platforms to prevent websites from promoting influencer ads. but some senators want stronger commitments from the platforms to back some sort of legislation that would help regulate the industry. kris? >> thank you very much, chris. 6:07 for you this morning. now to a small sign of recovery amid the state's ongoing devastating drought.

the weekend rain gave major boosts to reservoirs in the north bay and "the chronicle" is reporting that before the downpour on friday, the reservoirs in the mount tamalpais watershed was 32% and now is nearly 50% full. the powerful storm also brought life back to this iconic landmark in northern california. you know what it is, right? yosmite falls. the water is flowing again and it started over the weekend. the falls was dried up over the summer and the recent storm dropped several inches back in that region. >> it was, like, july, and it was right after monsoon rain, and it was pouring then.

good wednesday morning. it's 6:13. let's check out cupertino. the temperature at 53 degrees to start and it's going to be a nice warm-up, a mix of sun and clouds and a lot more sunshine this afternoon. we're heading for the low 70s. we'll look at all the microclimates in the forecast, coming up. the metering lights are definitely on. if you want to hit the road, it's time to do so now. i will have the rest of your commute, coming up. a judge told southwest airlines it has the right to demand its pilots get vaccinated, and if they don't, they don't fly. southwest is a federal contractor, where they don't just carry you and your luggage, but mail and troops at times. the union said they should not make rules without negotiating with the rules first but a judge

disagreed. as we think about air travel, remember the u.s. will start letting foreign travelers into the country with proof of vaccination in just a few weeks. now that's great for san francisco tourism, but it will also increase the number of people flying by a lot. keep that in mind as you make holiday plans. and democrats have the plan to tax companies that pay little in taxes, sometimes less than your family pays and put a big, big tax on billionaires, by changing what is considered income. income is generally your paycheck. some very rich people, though, don't get a paycheck and they have no income, or maybe they get paid a dollar for being the ceo, and their riches come from stock which is not taxed until they sell it. if you are making tens of

millions of dollars a year, you are not considered rich enough for this proposed tax. one way or the other, this is a radical new way of thinking of the idea of income, and there are a lot of down sides to it. complications, we'll get into them if and when this gets voted. elon musk, the richest person to ever walk the earth is against that tax. musk is rich because of tesla, which you may recall took nearly half a billion from taxpayers to get itself on its feet. it paid that money back and paid it back early, in fact. hertz will rent out cars to uber drivers so it could be more common that you could get an uber ride that is a tesla model 3. i have had a couple tesla rides and they are very comfortable.

to see changes in the drought. we are going to reach 72 in san josé. 74 in gilroy. up to 74 today in concord for a high temperature. hayward reaching 69 degrees. in palo alto, expect a high of 69, and 73 in daley. we are seeing the next storm system, but it's days away. we can see the clouds at the center of the storm and all of the dry air in between. we will let the water soak in, but we may see more fog as a result of the next couple of days. go into the weekend, we will see a storm system passing to the north that could bring us more clouds. by monday the rain is back. once again, really great to see that we do see in the extended forecast the rain chances coming back. it will be nice for highs in the low 70s for inland areas.

have died of covid since the pandemic began. kids can also get the long covid consequences even though they might not have a severe case. it turns out some of them just don't seem to recover. >> the cdc has two days of meetings planned for next tuesday and wednesday. if the cdc director ultimately signs off, children ages 5 and older could start getting vaccinated by the end of next week. a very popular east bay in-n-out is now closed. the health department shutting down the restaurant in pleasant hill. bob redell is live. >> reporter: good morning. contra costa health services says this in-n-out burger behind me on contra costa boulevard repeatedly refused to verify if the indoor customers were

vaccinated. they suspended the commercial food permit and told it to shutdown. the health services said it repeatedly notified in-n-out that it would be fined, and the county ended up citing the location here four times in recent weeks for fines totaling $1,750. and in san ramon, that location was cited for $200, and then noted the one in pinole of not checking the vaccination statuses. the pleasant hill location was not checking the vaccination status of indoor customers, and they call it government overreach. quote, we refuse to become the vaccination police for any government. end quote. the san francisco health department shutdown the in-n-out

on fisherman's wharf for not checking the status of the indoor customers, and the health department is investigating whether that in-n-out at fisherman's wharf has resumed indoor dining in defiance of an order not to. >> thank you, bob. now to overnight progress in keeping the a's in oakland and building the team a new stadium. the alameda county board of supervisors with a key port sip signaling support for the howard terminal ballpark project. the oakland fans and mayor are celebrating, but there's a lot that still has to happen. the county intends to contribute some tax revenue to help the a's pay for affordable housing and a park and infrastructure at the

knowing her elite talent couldn't, she decided to move to colorado. >> i just find joy in working on jumps. i feel like i have grown since i moved out here. >> karen said time spent soul searching as well as living on her own in school and now in cal has helped her mature. she knows better than ever who she is and what she wants, and thanks to her experience four years ago, she knows what it takes to get there. we are just now entering the season where we will find out who makes the team and doesn't. karen is heading to canada now to perform in skate canada. they will determine who will be on the olympic team in january in nashville. >> you get time stamped, right? you see your own kids growing

we will see our temperatures trending toward the mid-60s at lunchtime and upper 60s for the afternoon. the south bay here, as the 7-day forecast comes up at the bottom of the screen. today a high of 70 in los gatos, and that's warmer than yesterday. morgan hill reaching 74 degrees. low to mid-70s for the east bay. in pleasanton, a high of 72 and 72 in walnut creek. redwood city, 69 degrees there. sonoma reaching 73. it's going to be really comfortable this afternoon. before all of that rain, we are looking at how dry our reservoirs were. look at the south bay numbers and the percent of capacity for the reservoir. only 8% of capacity. in marin county as well as parts of sonoma and napa counties, on

average about 30%. but now with all of the rain, we brought it up to 50% in the north bay, so that was a boost of about 17%. east bay mud went up about 4%, so we are now at 71% of capacity. for the south bay, it was not a lot but hopefully we will see more rain coming. this is the next storm. we can see all of the space between what we are seeing now and this storm system. it's going to be a few days before it gets here. we will see all of the rain that we had recently soak into the ground, and then also another storm system passing just to the north of us throughout the weekend. then the rain set to move in on monday. it looks like a pretty decent one. we will fine tune how much rain we will see as we get closer. as we look at the outlooks for the next two weeks, through november 9th, we are looking at good rain chances across northern california and hopefully that is also a boost to our sierra snowpack. we are going to see temperatures
