you. >> let's start with meteorologist kari hall. you said warmer temperatures are heading our way? >> yes, warmer temperatures in time for the team to be all back together. now we are going to see still some warm temperatures as we go into the next couple of days. for the weekend we'll be slightly cooler with more clouds moving in. we're watching the drought monitor for the big update that comes out to see the change from all the rain we had over the weekend. temperatures in martinez headed for 73 degrees, upper 60s in san francisco and mid 70s for clear lake today. we'll talk more about our weekend changes coming up. >> the bay bridge is a smooth

drive. around the bay, great flow of traffic. we're looking at your longer drive. these are the areas with the arrows that will develop for your morning commute. we expect these two start kicking in about 5:30-6:00. right now everything is right on schedule. over here off of the richmond bridge we had a little bit of slowing but looks like everything is clear for now. first this morning a story making national headlines. in and out burger is doubling down against bay area vaccine mandates. first san francisco, now contra costa county penalizing in and out for not checking people's vaccination status. plenty of people are supporting the family-owned business. >> long lines to get into the drive-through and some people even opting to eat in their cars at the in and out in san ramon.

>> they're kicking people out right now. this is crazy. >> reporter: but on the corner can -- >> stop the mandates! >> reporter: a protest against the mandate in contra costa county requiring people to be vaccinated to eat indoors. about a dozen people with signs, flags and a bullhorn rallying in support of the popular burger restaurant. in and out locations in contra costa county are refusing to ask customers for proof of vaccination, which led to multiple warnings and fines before in and out stopped offering indoor dining. the pleasant hills shop shut down completely. all in and outs in the county open for drive-through and takeout only. >> i believe in freedom and i'm going to stand up for it for my kids. >> these folks that work in these restaurants, to try to make them the vaccine police, to violate my personal liberty, they just want to come to work.

>> i encourage everybody to take seriously local health orders and i encourage everybody to support businesses that support the state. >> reporter: not many companies make such a public stand on such a controversial topic. a cal state professor says it's hard to say if anybody wins in this situation. >> there's no consensus on what the right thing to do is. it's an ethical/social dilemma. >> in addition to pleasant in and out being shut down, the pittsburg in and out received a warning as well as san ramon. they both received those warnings as well as a fine. and in and out is not the only one dealing with this.

lumpy's in antioch was also fined. families across the bay area weigh the cdc's final signoff on covid vaccination for children over 5 next week. many experts believe it may pave the way for relaxed mask guidelines. whenever mask mandates start to be dialled back, it's likely medical settings and schools will be the exception. santa clara county has already set up a vaccination station at the fairgrounds in san jose for children between the ages of 5 and 11. the county has ordered 55,000 doses of pfizer's kids vaccine. another sign fire season is getting closer to ending. cal fire lifting some of the suspensions on burn permits.

that means counties will be allowed to burn provided proper permits are in place. let's get a look at the forecast. it seems like all that rain certainly helped the firefighting efforts. >> it did. it put an end to that fire season. it was really great to see with all of the heavy rain that fell across much of northern california also making it into central california with some good rainfall totals. we're still drying out as we take a look outside at the bay bridge. temperatures starting out nice and mild. it's going to be very much like yesterday but just a little bit warmer during the mid afternoon. highs heading into the mid to upper 70s inland. livermore reaching about 75

degrees. >> watching green sensors changing color like the fall leaves but not right now. everything is just fine south bay, peninsula, across the bridges here the dumbarton and san mateo bridges. 580 shows a little slowing out of the altamont pass. the commute direction toward 580 is just fine. contra costa county shows great times for highway 4 and 580.

and a good drive to work. our temperatures are in the mid 50s. we'll see a slow climb in temperatures as we go throu compared to yesterday, but our sunshine continues. >> we have the bright sun right by university. easy drive along there. you'll find some construction a little further north but no major problems. >> good morning. wall street set to open slightly higher after stocks were mostly lower yesterday. dow and s&p are slipping from record highs with the dow dropping about 250 points as the recent earnings fuelled rally eased a bit. markets have been marching higher on positive momentum from earnings this month.

the s&p is up more than 5.5% in october, on pace for its best month since a year ago in november. today we'll get unemployment, housing and economic growth. the earnings parade continues. this morning we're hearing from caterpillar and comcast. we're also hear from merck. and this afternoon apple and amazon are on deck. starbucks is giving workers a raise as restaurants nationwide are struggling. workers with at least two years of employment could get up to a 5% boost in pay. those with at least five years could get a 10% pay hike starting in late january. they're also offering referral fees like a $200 referral fee if you find them someone.

the average pay for all workers will average between $15 and $23 an hour by next summer. mcdonald's recently said that some locations have had to close early because of labor shortages. mastercard is launching a new card for people who are behind or visually impaired. the card will be available next year and has physical notches to help people determine the correct way to insert them into scanning machines. mastercard decided against using braille because research has found that many people who are blind actually don't use braille, which is really

in gilroy, antioch heading up toward 76 degrees. 73 for a high today in fremont. the seven-day forecast is up at the bottom of the screen. for each micro climate we are going to see some changes ahead. enjoy today with temperatures reaching 73 in redwood city, san francisco heading up to about 70 degrees in the mission district and our north bay highs also in the low to mid 70s, even up to 77 in ukiah. we still have a few days of some dry weather. then the storm system well into the pacific getting closer each day. we expect rain to get here on monday. until then we could see some warnings with patchy dense fog with all of that moisture settling in. the rain arrives on monday. at this point it looks like it

could be a decent storm. we are going to see rainfall potential anywhere from about a tenth to a quarter of an inch of rain from san francisco southward. farther north we could see a half inch of rain or slightly higher the farther north you go. we know that we do have the highest level of drought in parts of the east bay and north bay. we'll see if the recent rainfall affects that. our temperatures are looking nice for our inland areas. we are going to see still some of those temperatures cooling down for the weekend. once again, those showers come back on monday. mike, you're keeping an eye on something happening on the nimitz. >> we rotated our camera to the south. i wanted to point out the over

crossing here around 98. we are looking at a good flow of traffic, starting to bump up just a tad bit. a disabled vehicle is reported somewhere in the maze. no real specifics. so far little blips show up like this one in vallejo for east bay 37. we're looking over here toward highway 4 and 580. maybe a little bit of moisture on the roadway here but not a problem. a palo alto church celebrating a two-year struggle to provide safe parking spaces for homeless families. unitarian church sits near shoreline amphitheater. the person behind the idea was shocked to discover how hard it is to help just a few families.

>> reporter: in palo alto parking is a valuable asset and often goes unused at night. that doesn't happen parking lot will open for the clients in our shelter. >> reporter: the church campus has more than 100 parking spaces in its lot. as of next week some r designated as safe parking spaces for unhoused people in the community. there's access to a shower and free wifi. parking program coordinator says it was a herculean effort to get it approved. >> the typical capacity of our lot will have six people . >> reporter: the application allows neighbors to object,

which is what happened. a board member asked for a review, which dragged out the process. she eventually dropped the process after the program was explained. we reached out to that board member for comment and have not got a response. >> it's the outcome that matters more than anything. >> reporter: amber stein heads up move mountain view. they provide a security patrol, case management and other services for the people using the parking spaces each night. stein says she considers use of the lot a well-earned success. christopher says it shouldn't be so difficult for a church to try to help people. he hopes the city will streamline its application process and make it easier for other churches to make their lots available to people who could use them. happening today, engineers

will drill five holes deep under san francisco's millennium tower to see if they can safely secure the foundation to bedrock. high-rise is leaning more than 22 inches. san francisco gave the sinking and tilting millennium tower permission to expand testing of a possible fix, this after the test drill two weeks ago caused minimal sinking. new developments in the alec baldwin onset shooting investigation. the gun was not thoroughly checked ahead of time, investigators say, a live bullet killed halyna hutchins. the first assistant director said he did not check all the rounds in the gun as he's supposed to do. authorities are still not ruling

out filing criminal charges. 5% of unvaccinated adults say they have left a job due to a vaccine mandate. that's what a new survey says. this as the federal government prepares to unveil new vaccination rules for workplaces. that study finds 7 in 10 parents are concerned about long-term effects of the vaccine on children.
