good morning, everyone. it's sunday, november 14th. we are taking a live look outside the golden gate bridge, and we can see the fog rolling in strong here. thank you for joining us. i am keena. here in san francisco we definitely have the fog, and as you saw yesterday we have the fog again. take a look at the dublin camera. you can barely make out the road behind it. you can see a couple light poles

through here, and we are under a dense fog advisory. here's a look at the limited visibility we are seeing right now. down to a quarter of a mile in some areas, and portion into the tri-valley to hatch a mile in santa rosa. you can see better visibility today and the south bay compared to yesterday's fog in the south bay, and it made it down to our station here and i posted a video about it on twitter. we'll go over your daytime highs in just a minute. a shooting in east bay in antioch. police found a 36-year-old man with gunshot wounds and he died at the scene. the gunman this morning still on the loose. we'll continue to monitor the situation and update the story both on air and on line. happening today, a south bay town taking a stand against

hate. the community of los gatos will march in solidarity. this comes after a series of racist, homophobic and anti-semitic outbursts. >> madam, are not got. >> the october 5th meeting is not the first incident that turned out a tense year. at the meeting a los gatos resident made -- >> all meetings are now held on zoom because of the incident. >> it was a shocking moment, anybody who saw it and has

children felt it. i know my enter mama bear came out and it's not okay to go after somebody's kid. >> karen and diane are two of the organizers of the community. >> they say are pro lgbtq policies. >> all of these groups are anti-family, anti-procreation. >> diane fisher says they have also been targeted. >> in our community, we have had a proliferation of leftists. >> the hope is to bring together parts of los gatos to show support for each other. >> i think people for a long time thought if we did not address it, it would just go

away. don't add oxygen to the fire, but i think it's important to stand up. the rally against hate is today. it will start at fisher middle school and end at the civic center and it begins at 2:00 this afternoon. this week dozens of communities are also taking a stand against hate. it's part of the fourth annual united against hate week, and cities are encouraging people to put up posters like this one calling on people to stop the hate and biases to try and make their communities safer. the city's mayor put out this message. >> hate has no place in our world. it's so important to speak out and make your voice heard. we stand united against hate. >> more than 200 communities, including all of l.a. county are set to participate in united against hate week. negotiations are set to

resume today against kaiser and the union representing kaiser pharmacists. the president confirmed both sides are expected to sit down today. the pharmacists are planning a week-long strike s been urging to get prescriptions filled early before then, and kaiser did avert a massive strike involving tens of thousands of workers in california and other states. that strike was set to start on monday as well. kaiser said it has an offer on the table which keeps its pharmacists the highest paid in the profession. we are tracking this ongoing negotiation situation in northern california. you can find the latest updates on our website. just go to nbcbayarea.com and click on kaiser pharmacist may strike on the trending bar there on our home page.

also happening tomorrow, it's the deadline for city workers in berkeley to submit proof of vaccination. this morning we are getting a better pictures of how many employees have gotten the shot. so far 80% of city workers are vaccinated, and the city is trying to determine how many does not get an exemption could lose their jobs. as the holiday season gets closer, covid cases are climbing again. the united states reported 47 million cases since the pandemic began. 1 million cases were reported in the last two weeks alone. you can see the increase here in on graph. this is the 7-day average of new cases nationwide. on october 24th, 63,000 new cases a day. on friday, 78,000 new cases a day. here in california, our cases

the mom and another man was shot and both survived. the boy was found safe. we spoke with neighbors who witnessed the abduction. >> to get your child abducted and have the amber alert out there, as a mother i can understand where the mom was coming from, and that is extremely scary. >> authorities believe he knows the shooting victims but it's unclear how. >> a police officer is recovering after being involved in a fremont. the crash was reported lastore . the entire road was shutdown between mission boulevard and paloma way. the officer hurt was responding to a call from sheriff deputies. the officer and the other driver are expected to be okay. happening now, if you see emergency vehicles involving this south bay cal train station today, don't be alarmed. cal train is conducting an

emergency exercise along the rail line there at the lawrence cal train station in sunnyvale. if you plan to go to that station, parking will be limited and there could be traffic surrounding that area as well. the emergency exercise started at 5:00 this morning and will go until 4:00 p.m. global leaders have struck a deal at the climate summit, and some leaders are disappointed with the a agreement. that's because it contained the last-minute change, they say, watered down crucial language about coal. india requested one of the clauses be rewarded and the country is able to phase down instead of phase out coal. much more coming up, and we take you to washington, d.c. for the weekly chat with chuck todd with a look ahead at this week's "meet the press."

candice. welcome back, everyone. good morning, chuck. thank you for joining us. it's great to meet you for the first time. >> nice to meet you, candice. >> you recently had a number of exclusive interviews and i want to get straight to those interviews. i have two questions. were you surprised and what does it mean for republicans that he is not running again? >> am i surprised that somebody with his political lineage says no, yes. but if you have following the governor's rhetoric over the last year or two, i'm not surprised. it's a problem a lot of governors have, when you talk to former governors that serve as senators, none of them will tell you their favorite job was senator over governor. as he said, he goes, in washington sometimes both sides

believe the best solution is to fight to do nothing, and that's considered a politicalo come in. i think that it was interesting to hear him trash the job of washington these days, but he will recruit somebody to do this job that he thinks is miserable, and that's a tough line to draw. to me he made a logical case as to when he would not want to run. in fact, i wonder why anybody wants to run for congress these days. >> interesting. fight to do nothing, yeah. adam schiff is from california and what is he revealing to you about the attack on january 6th on the capitol and plans leading up to it? >> look, they are just trying to get everybody to cooperate. that continues to be the near term fight here, as they are

still getting the information they are looking for, the fight over getting the president's former chief of staff to testify and turn over materials, and that might end up going in the same place that the steve bannon situation went to, where it was turned into a criminal complaint. bannon has been indicted. the problem this committee has, though, with which adam schiff did not have a good answer for, okay, the plan appears from the trump folks to delay this as long as possible, and are you prepared to deal with that? at the end of the day it's a political calendar we are on, and if democrats lose control of congress before they finish this investigation, this investigation goes away. >> in so many ways, chuck, you are fighting for the information, and as always, thank you so much for joining us. have a great sunday, and, of course, we will see you next week. be sure and join chuck for this morning's "meet the press." he will have the governor, kris

sununu and an exclusive interview with the chair of the intelligence committee, representative adam schiff. tune in to "meet the press" this morning right after this newscast. steve bannon was indicted on monday for defying a subpoena on capitol hill. a former advisory to donald trump failed to appear in front of the committee investigating the attack on january 6th, and now bannon through an attorney told lawmakers trump encouraged his former aide not to reveal anything that would be covered by that privilege. after bannon turns himself in he is expected to appear in court that afternoon. closing arguments are scheduled to begin monday morning in the kyle rittenhouse

case. the governor signed an order authorizing 500 national guard troops to assist local trial fo shooting three protesters in kenosha last year, two of whom were killed. from abuse caught on camera to accusations of elder negligent. brook dale senior living as more than six locations across the country. our investigative unit spent months speaking with family members. 83 of them are now part of this lawsuit accusing brookdale of financial abuse, and violating laws that protect the disabled. state records reveal other problems, including staffing shortages and a delayed 911 call and abusing staff. one woman told us that brookdale contributed to his death. >> he was on a permanent

catheter and it was not working. brookdale nurses said they had pumping fluids into him to see if they could get him to move, and he ended up in the icu for several days with stage 5 kidney failure. >> brookdale says it believes its size and popularity makes it a target for lawsuits. you can watch the unit's full investigation into brookdale senior living on nbcbayarea.com/investigations, and that includes what happened when the company invited me inside one of their facilities. a warning to some people up in the north bay, keep your pets inside this morning. a bear is on the loose in a residential neighborhood of petaluma. police and animal control say the bear was first seen around 2:30 this morning around 6th and i streets. police urge the public not to

approach the bear, and keep your pets indoors and if you see it to contact them. a tennis court in oakland is back open after it became a homeless encampment. plenty of people came out ready to play yesterday. oakland city council's president led the reopening of lake merritt. >> we are able to have a win/win with the community, and transition our former unsheltered neighbors into adequate housing. certainly with the pandemic, our outdoor space is incredibly important. >> the difference here was everybody that was here got what i call adequate housing. >> the reopening comes after a violent week in oakland. everybody involved here says they were happy to highlight something positive in their community. well, somebody recently got a lot richer. was it you or somebody else in the south bay?

they played the mega millions lottery and matched was sold at clyde's liquors in mountain view. the next drawing for tuesday night is expected to have a jackpot of $63 million. let's bring in vianey arana who has a look at your microclimate forecast. what do you say, let's get a ticket after work? >> yeah, i never miss out on an office pool because you don't want to be that one person that did not put in the $2 and they hit it. i do want to start out with a shot of san josé because you can see a little fog, and compare this to yesterday in the south bay, and we were completely blanketed by the dense fog. we are on this camera in san josé, but look at where we are

seeing some of the dense fog. this is san francisco, and it looks like i am floating in the clouds, but you can't make out the golden gate bridge. you can see some of the fog there, and look at the dense fog in dublin. you cannot see anything beyond these two light poles here, and this is a live look at the camera and it's not broken, and the fog is just that dense. this is in effect until mid morning, so until around noon. santa rosa, novato, napa, oakland, concord, livermore. let's look at the visibility numbers, there are dangerous conditions. the high beams reflect off of the fog and make it harder to see, so limited visibility in through novato. you can see santa rosa and the fairfield area, expecting this dense fog to remain through mid morning, and then we will get clearing for the afternoon. temperatures right now in the 40s. in the 50s to start, and just a

little chilly in dublin, san josé, morgan hill at 45. it will be a stunning day ahead. mostly sunshine once that fog clears out. temperatures will warm up quite comfortably in the mid and upper 60s. a couple low 70s as well. i want to give you a shot of the day for greater tahoe. look at that stunning sunrise. we have just a little snow blanketing, and hopefully we will get more winter storms head into december. south lake tahoe, the forecast for this weekend we will stay in the 50s, and no storms for now. i want to give you a closer look at the long-range outlook because we are looking at our next chance of possibly seeing rain move in. we have clouds ahead, and then monday we will remain in the 60s. our next best rain chance moves in on thursday heading into friday. you can see the storm system here. we will have a better idea of the timing once we get closer. here's a closer look at your 7-day for inland areas, as we

building in san francisco. thank you for joining us. i am candice nguyen. >> fog decided it would come in for round two on this sunday morning. i want to show you the live look at downtown san josé. you could see some of the fog yesterday, of course, the south bay was extremely dense. it's extremely dense, as candice said. you couldn't see anything earlier, and we are finally starting to see some of the road and trees out there, and even then it's pretty dense. look at the visibility, down to a quarter of a mile and that can be dangerous out there while driving. here's a closer look of what i will detail in my forecast. we will talk about the warm temperatures for today. yes, that does say rain chance ahead. i will go through the timing of that and what we are expecting

in a statement kaiser says it has an offer on the table that keeps its pharmacists among the highest paid in the industry, and it continues to provide members and patients with the ongoing pharmacy needs. you can also search kaiser strike on your mobile app. happening tomorrow, it's the deadline for city workers in berkeley to submit proof of vaccination. this morning we are getting a better picture of how many employees have got the shot. the city is trying to determine how many workers are still unvaccinated. ccinated and does not get an exemption could lose their jobs. 64 employees have applied for exemptions, and it's unclear right now if they have been approved.

as the fda considers whether to make booster shots for all americans, and many here in our area are trying to decide which one they could get. >> the bottom line, they are highly effective. in a nationwide study, tracking 70% that got boosters, only one had a breakthrough case. now would be a better time to get the booster if you want that protection when you see your family. the doctor led a nationwide vaccine study for booster doses for the university of maryland school of medicine, and it started in june at ten locations across the u.s. and tracked more than 700 participants. >> you could get a moderna, moderna, and then pfizer, or pfizer, pfizer and then moderna.

you could mix it up. >> she found each combination is fine because they all produced enough of a boosted immune response. >> higher doesn't mean better in terms of antibodies. there's a threshold. if you get over that threshold of antibody, doesn't matter how much higher you are. you are no better protected than somebody who might have a little lower antibody. >> the fda used her research in the decision making and does recommend anybody that got a johnson & johnson shot more than two months ago to go and get a booster now. the pfizer or moderna give an added boost over a second johnson & johnson shot. >> the one and done was good for a lot of people. >> the one breakthrough case happened close to when the person had gotten their booster,

and her study is one of the few tracking breakthroughs after boosters, and she's watching that closely. >> if you get a break through, it's mild and you may not be aware and it could be completely asymptomatic. >> the scheduling process is wide open, but the doctor cautions not to abuse it. >> i would encourage people not to do that, because we have not studied the safety of additional doses. we just don't know. >> she says that could be on the horizon. her booster study will determine if another shot is needed next year when these boosters start to wane. she will add new participants when necessary as vaccine develop new once to target specific variants. >> we had to ask, which did she

good sunday morning. it's 7:41. another foggy start to our day. look at san francisco. this is a live look right now. this is the golden gate bridge, you can barely see it poking through the fog. we are going to see the fog stick around for the first half of the morning. san josé, right now you can see the layer right there, and yesterday it was more dense in the south bay. we are seeing dense fog in other parts. look at dublin. yes, there's a dense fog advisory that remains in effect until noon. the highlighted areas including san francisco, san mateo, oakland, napa fairfield and up through the bay as well. visibility down to quarter of a mile in santa rosa and fairfield as well. look at tracy. we are seeing a little better

visibility down through the south bay. but we are expecting sunshine once some of the fog clears, it will be a little slower so expect around 1:00 for that fog to back off. right now current temperatures in the 40s and 50s as you head out the door. look how nice our afternoon will be. it's going to be a warm day, especially out in the city. we're talking 70s in the forecast for san francisco today, and mid and upper 70s down through the south bay as well. san josé, 76 degrees today. yes, a little warmer. enjoy it because we are going to be seeing changes ahead. great shot of greater tahoe this morning. this is the shot of the day for the area. look at that. you could see little snow out there and a beautiful sunrise. don't have to worry about the rain or snow if you are heading out the day, over the next three days we will keep temperaturesh. i want to show you your long range out look. after we get through the 70s for today, looking ahead we have a bit of a cold front head into

monday on tuesday. we will cool off, but look at the time stamp, it says thursday and that's our next best chance of seeing rain especially for areas north of the golden gate bridge, and it could be more widespread, even down to the south bay as far as monterey county as least into thursday evening. right now 70s head into inland areas for tomorrow. notice we cool off because of the passing cold front. then on tuesday we have a system that will stay pretty far north of us, but if you live in san francisco or areas north of the golden gate bridge, you could catch a chance of shower activity as early as tuesday. heading into wednesday we see the wind pick up as the cold front passes through, and then on thursday we see a better chance of widespread rain in the area. we will go from 70s degrees today, d workweek. overall, beautiful weekend ahead. it was nice to have you,

we have new information right now about the bear that was spotted in petaluma.

police just informed us they have eyes on the bear this morning and that they have not updated on what is happening next, but they have eyes on the bear. this sighting happened in a residential neighborhood in petaluma. police and animal control say the bear was first seen around 2:30 this morning around 6th and i street. now there's a third spotting of the bear by authorities. keep your pets indoors and if you see the bear contact authorities instead. southwest airlines is rolling out new incentives for its staff to avoid more mass cancelations. last month southwest canceled more than 2,000 flights blaming weather and staffing. it costs the airline about $75 million and led to a lot of upset passengers and ruined trips. the new incentives are based on

rapid reward points. car and truck emissions make up about 20% of american tkraepb house emissions. more than any other source. to reduce the numbers the biden administration provides $320 billion of the $1.75 trillion build back better bill for electric vehicles. nbc bay area political analysts, mr. gerston joins us. if the democrats agree, what is the hang up for? >> candice, there's an old story, you put two in a room to solve a problem and you come up with three ideas. the democrats, particularly the progressive democrats in the house like the idea of this bill, a very robust bill at that. democrats in the senate are more

moderate led by joe manchin, saying we have a little more money here and i don't know if we could afford it, and the basic c them up in dozens of issues that are keeping the build back better bill from actually coming to fruition. >> how much of a difference are we talking about here, and explain why the difference? >> we're talking about a lot of money, you know. we're talking about $12,000 approximately per electric vehicle in the first proposal, around 5,000 in the second. that could be a difference of $100 billion in that $1.75 trillion bill. you can see why these guys are haggling over this things. it's a big issue. the idea is everybody is okay for some sort of subsidy, some sort of tax credit but how much and where -- the where -- the where comes because part of the biden bill supported by the progressives want to give an

extra 5,000 or $6,000the electric vehicles purchased from states with union shops, and that's the rub, and for manchin and the moderates, that's a no. >> as always, it's in the details there. let's step back for a second here. what is behind this fight? >> the idea is, as far as biden and the progressive democrats are concerned, purchasing a car from the union shop honors the fact that these folks are paid more, and they are paid more in nonunion states, and if you give those incentives to one side and national the other, you are really penalizing nonunion states that produce the cars and provide a good incentive for people to buy them, and of course when you are producing cars in nonunion states, the companies are making more money,
