acquittal of 18-year-old kyle rittenhouse overnight. there were protests but all of them remained peaceful. in a moment we'll speak to the great aunt of anthony huber. we want to begin with megan fitzgerald in kenosha this morning. megan, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, peter. it took jurors some four days and nearly 25 hours to reach a verdict. it was something law enforcement here were ready for, with some 500 national guard members ready to deploy in the event there was riots, but things here in kenosha remained calm. a sign maybe people are ready to move forward. overnight scattered protests from coast-to-coast, marchers on the streets in brooklyn, new york. a riot declared in portland, oregon.

but in kenosha, wisconsin, the center of it all, a sigh of relief and a peaceful night, after a jury acquitted kyle rittenhouse of all counts friday. >> we the jury find the defendant kyle rittenhouse not guilty. >> reporter: the 18-year-old charged with shooting and killing two men, wounding another last summer, collapsing in court. outside the courthouse, crowds of protesters with a mix of emotions. >> it validates that we have a second amendment right to defend ourselves. >> this is just a dark, dark day for america. >> reporter: rittenhouse came to kenosha in the days of the protests following the shooting of jacob blake. >> self-is somebody entering your house doing you wrong. he was on the street, he had these people come to them. >> reporter: rittenhouse's lawyer saying the video was the key to the success. >> it took out the witness

testimony so much and it was proof. if it had been kyle's word against everybody else out in that mob he would be going to prison for the rest of his emotionally. >> kyle feels remorse there were two lives taken that's not lost on anybody. >> reporter: but the pain felt by family and friends of the victim compounded. >> every day i wish i could come home to him but i can't because he's dead. and now the system is telling me that nobody needs to answer for that. >> reporter: the prosecution issuing a statement saying while we are disappointed with the verdict, it must be respected. president biden also weighing in. while the verdict in kenosha will leave many americans feeling angry and concerned, myself included, we must acknowledge that the jury has spoken. an end to another trial that's divided the nation. new reaction from vice president

kamala harris, to the verdict. she made reference to the criminal justice system quoting it's clear there's a lot more work we need to do. we also heard from rittenhouse's attorney saying he has security around him and he'll likely leave the area. >> anthony huber was one of the men rittenhouse shot and killed in the protests last year. we want to bring in his great aunt, susan hughes. good morning to you, we want to extend our condolences to you this morning. you have had some hours to process the verdict. what message do you think the jury is sending with this verdict? >> you know, i think they made their best efforts. i think the fact that it took four days, perhaps gives us some encouragement that at least it was a difficult decision to reach.

one irony of this whole thing is that the verdict came down on anthony's mother's birthday. that's a particularly hard blow. >> susan, the defense said that rittenhouse had a right to self-defense. you said that your nephew had a right to his own life, that he was intervening to protect other lives, an argument that the jury rejected. how do you want americans to remember your nephew this morning? >> well, i think, you know, they rejected it because they stopped every attempt to say anything positive at all about any of the victims. none of them deserve the kind of treatment they received, the wild web. and frankly from some of the national media who have different political views.

i want anthony to be remembered as a person who really was just trying to get on with his life after a difficult -- some early difficult years. and was making real, real progress in that regard. and if you have time, i actually -- because i know you're atmosphere in the morning is a little different. i'm tired of all the heaviness. i want to leave you with one little bit of a lighter note. in some of the photos you see of anthony, you see he's wearing a cap and it has the word bacon on it. when his grandmother was very ill, we had a very strange -- anthony had a marvelous sense of humor, very funny guy and an interesting take on life. he asked his grandmother how

and as if on cue a major storm is expected to roll across the area. kathy parks is in new york with the latest. >> reporter: good morning to you, peter. things are picking up at laguardia, you're seeing the beginning of the holiday. tsa expects to screen more than 20 million americans now through the end of next weekend and officials say they're prepared to handle the surge. this morning holiday travel is kicking into high gear with millions getting jump starts at airports. >> i'm going to chicago for thanksgiving to see my mom. >> reporter: and on the roads. >> coming from baltimore, we've been on the road for about three hours now. trying to avoid the traffic as much as possible. >> reporter: triple a estimates more than 53 million travelers this year, that's a 13% increase from 2020 and the highest single year jump since 2005. and even with gas prices averaging $3.41 a gallon, over a

dollar more than last year, the vast majority of americans will be driving to their destinations, with wednesday afternoon expected to hit peak congestion. but friday marked one of the busiest days for passenger traffic at lax. with air travel approaching pre-pandemic levels, officials say arrive early and be patient. >> the level of unruly behavior is much higher than i have ever seen it. >> an unruly passenger we need to get off the airplane. >> reporter: more than 5,200 incidents have been reported to the faa this year. and they're cracking down with hefty fines up to $37,000 per violation. >> don't ruin your travel plans, holiday plans because you couldn't behave for a few hours. >> couldn't control your temper, your alcohol. >> reporter: right in the middle of a bustling travel week, bad weather could be to blame for delays. a major storm brewing. on track to strike the midwest

katy beck is following those developments for us this morning. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. a big awe unanimous mouse vote on friday to clarify who was eligible for a booster. the cdc hopes this move will keep transmissions low at a time when we typically see them spike. this morning, millions of americans are a step closer to a third shot in the arm, boosting hope for more protection against covid infections. just in time for the holiday season. >> we're going into a cold season, cases going up, high travel season, people indoors, sharing good holiday times together. >> reporter: friday the fda and cdc authorizing booster shots of the pfizer and moderna vaccines for all vaccinated americans over 18 and recommending the shot for those over 50, ending the confusion over booster eligibility that has varied

widely state-to-state. >> we are 11 yeses and 0 noes. >> reporter: the new guidance comes as 17 states are seeing covid cases on the rise by 25% or more over a two-week period. and more than 30% of the country has yet to receive a single dose of the vaccine. michigan seeing one of the worst surges in the country with new spikes in hospitalization numbers and infections among children. in illinois state officials are reporting the highest one day death toll in two weeks. and in minnesota new cases nearing 5,000 a day, largely driven by the unvaccinated. many regions reporting zero open beds in their icus and staff shortages. >> we have a lot of virus in the state at the very time we're coming indoors and beginning to do more interacting with each other. so it's the perfect storm in a bad way. >> reporter: but now new hope from boosters.

divided, you say. but this divided? >> no. i think our founders would be appalled right now. >> reporter: this bill still has a difficult journey ahead. it goes to the senate next where because of the 50/50 split the bill needs the support of every democratic senator including joe manchin and kyrsten sinema. leadership wants to pass it by christmas. >> a busy couple weeks ahead. great to see you. >> president biden has a tough ask getting all 50 senators on board with the build back better plan. monica alba is at the white house with more on that. >> reporter: president biden plans to continue his role as negotiator in chief with his former senate colleagues and will stay engaged with those key hold outs like joe manchin and kyrsten sinema throughout the next phase as his legislation faces a tougher path in that chamber. bottom line, this will not be an easy road. while clearing the house was a

major milestone, the social spending and climate package will likely change dramatically before it can head back for final passage. despite that, the president declared friday he's willing to sign the final version whether some of his main priorities like paid family leave, end up in the bill or not. as to when this could happen it does have a lot of hurdled to jump through and the senate isn't expected to make significant progress until after thanksgiving where they have other challenges including government funding and raising the debt ceiling all of which has to be dealt with in december. the president celebrating his 79th birthday just in time. he went to walter reed medical center for a check up, what did the doctors say? >> reporter: president biden is the oldest sitting president in american history. he spent about five hour at walter reed yesterday undergoing the physical, which included routine medical tests.

retail stores included a mash robbery at the louis vuiton place. anyone with information on this theft is urged to call police. san francisco is also investigating a deadly shooting involving one of their own. one officer opened fire after responding to a report with a person with a knife. it happened yesterday. police made a contact inside a residential hotel, they felt threaten so the officer fired their gun. the suspect is identified as armani. the town hall meeting will be held the next ten days to release more information and possibly video of that exchange. let's bring in vianey arana
