obama and bush, release oil from the spr in an attempt to lower prices. and it is kind of a stunt. it happens all the time, presidentially speaking. no, it probably won't make that much of a difference, because as we have said, leaders of countries don't have that much influence on energy prices. if they did, canada or france or japan would pay less than the u.s. does for a barrel of oil. but the price is the price worldwide. the price is the price because oil is fungible. it can be eaily moved and sold to the highest bidder. if america said we're going to pay less, the ship carrying the oil or the oil company pumping oil out of the ground would say fine, we'll sell it to somebody else. let's talk about some of the other things you may have seen on social media. the gas is more than $1.30 more than it was in the height of the pandemic, of course it is. the price of gas and oil got so low during the worst of the pandemic, oil prices dropped to

5:47 am
president trump also released oil from the spr. he filled it back up when oil was cheap in order to help energy companies from going bankrupt. not that long ago, we were worried about the lack of big profits from big oil, and president trump said we had way too much oil in the spr. he wanted to sell off about half of it, roughly 350 million barrels of oil, and congress said no. well, we'll be talking about fact checking on social media, on social media. you can find me on twitter. i'm @scottmcgrew. >> it's 5:47. some californians are being told to prove it or pay it back when it comes to pandemic related jobless benefits. the edd recently updated its pandemic unemployment assistance policies. it is now demanding those who received pandemic payments show their prior work history or pay back their benefits. a 30% penalty can be added as well. the agency is now notifying everyone who must submit that
