but first, meteorologist, kari hall, has a look at the forecast. >> take a look at half moon bay, visibility down to zero right now, and allow extra time to get to work as our temperatures start out chilly once again, mainly in the mid-40s, but it will warm up nicely again today. it has been so great these past few days, and we will see the temperatures go into the upper 60s and low 70s and back down into the upper 40s for tonight. mike, you are looking at recovery already in pleasant hill? >> yeah, it was a single car over here, kari, southbound approaching 680. flares were in the area, so the recovery seems to be complete. if you find flares southbound of concord avenue, drive through them because everything is okay

it comes after the death of a man killed while trying to stop a car break-in. today we spoke with the victim's mother. >> oakland city leaders are asking for the violence to stop. the mayor wants to add more police officers on the streets and it comes as the latest victim, 28-year-old eric davis was gunned down on lake marist sunday afternoon and he was trying to stop somebody from breaking into a car. we spoke to his mother and aunt who live in l.a. >> he was our heart. he cared about everybody. >> eric will take up for whoever can't take up for themselves. >> he was heavily involved in the new mt. pleasant missionary baptist church in l.a., teaching bible study and coaching kids in basketball, and he was trying to make it on his own and lived

near lake merritt. >> we really thought that was a good place for him. you know, he didn't deserve to lose his life. the violence, it has to stop. >> oakland police say the passenger inside a rav4 shot davis. a $10,000 is being offered from crime stoppers for information in the case. his family, too, is pleading for help. >> we want to ask for the public's help, locating the suspects who murdered a kind and loving son. >> oakland police chief will give an update on the investigation and talk about the call for more staffing and how his department is using tactical units to respond to crimes if that those support -- >> we have to demonstrate our support for those officers

whatever happens from the covid variant, he doesn't see lockdowns on the table. in his prepared testimony, he said the covid variant would cloud the economy. meantime, how confident are consumers about spending? it's roughly flat kphaeurd to compared to last year, and probably less incentives to go out and spend big. adobe says when you add that in, they are expecting sales to be in the range of 10.6 to $11 billion overall.

good morning, folks. we'll take a beautiful look at the bay bridge. the lights sparkling in motion here. no problem, twinkling in the city, a clear view. no problems getting across the bridge. there's fog registering up in the north bay. kari will talk about the forecast, that's her domain, but the road index says that could be a problem, not a problem but just something you deal with in santa rosa, and you are used to it. vasco here you are 18 minutes down from marsh creek road. mild slowing out of the altamont pass.

our sensors are reading a possibility of the fog. >> yeah, zero visibility around that area, so be careful heading out. it's chilly, too, so put on a jacket or coat. it's 43 in morgan hill. we will have a nice day headed for the low 70s. cupertino will see a high of 72 degrees, and 72 in morgan hill. the 7-day forecast is coming up at the bottom of the screen. martinez is reach into the upper 60s, and we'll see a high of 70 in river more. san mateo looking at a high of 78 there. in the marina district, it's 69 in novato. ukiah, up to 74 degrees. once again, lighting up the

menorah in union square. temperatures cooling off going into tonight back down into the mid-50s. still a lot of rain up around the pacific northwest with a new atmospheric river headed that way. all of the rain continues to target areas north. it's keeping any chances of rain from moving in and keeping the atmospheric river to the north. we will not see that change so our dry weather continues over the next few days, and we measured an inch and a quarter in san francisco in what is usually one of the wettest months a year. we are still at a surplus. in san josé, we only measured 0.1 of a an inch of rain all month long, and usually the second wettest month of the year. very unusual to see this long of a stretch of dry conditions.

we'll see the temperatures warming up in the low 70s. in san francisco, expect more high temperatures in the upper 60s. let's talk about our climate in crisis. i know it has been warm out there, but we are heading into the colder months of the year. you want to make sure you are checking around the house for cracks and gaps to conserve energy and keep as much of the heat inside as you can. wrap a jacket around the water heater, and that will keep it from having to work so hard and produce extra energy to warm up the water in your home. for your thermostat, turn it down to 56 if you are going to be gone all day lodge, and if you are home turn it up to 68 and that will really reduce your carbon footprint.
