5:19 am
as we start out our meteorological winter, normally we are cooling down but today we are talking about near record-high temperatures. you may be wondering what is normal, because it has been so warm lately? 60, 61 degrees. we are heading for the 70s today. we will see if we set new records this afternoon and then again tomorrow as you take a look at the 7-day forecast at the bottom of the screen. christmas in the park again tonight. it's going to be a nice one. we are going to see temperatures in the low 70s in downtown san josé at about 4:00. then you can see how the temperatures drop off at about three or four degrees each hour, so it will cool down pretty fast. we have had dry weather here, but all of the rain further to the north still dealing with flooding and the atmospheric flooding and is lifting to the north right now, and the storm track has been pushed further north because of the high pressure. there will possibly be a

quick-moving system, and it looks like the rain dries up before it gets here but it's a change in the weather pattern. the temperature out look for the month of december shows warmer than normal temperatures for the bay area and then the rain just to our north, but we, once again, could see some of the rain coming in further down the line. we just don't really see it here in the 7-day forecast. our temperatures will be cooling down going from the low 70s in the valleys to the mid-60s this weekend, and maybe slightly cooler this week, while san francisco will see the upper 60s and will head back to the lower 60s for the weekend. mike, you are calling out the dense fog? >> yeah, you and chp. no fog on the bay bridge or the golden gate bridge, but this band around here, novato, across the carquinez and benicia bridge, and that's further south than we typically see. highway 4 getting enveloped

city council to the would-be thieves in order to detour the smash and grab mobs and other crimes. they will put up a network of cameras. what kind of cameras are we talking about, kris? >> reporter: we are talking about license plate cameras. the readers that san josé has been using for a couple years now. the question going forward is where are they going to go and how will that information be used. the san josé city council voted to use $250,000 for that. the increase in retail crime is part of the reason for this. the city wants to add cameras to stop crimes before they happen, and to help solve the ones they can't stop. >> the other issues they can help us with and help us both

5:35 am
you are right, it will, in fact, impact the international travelers with the initial testing before they come to the united states. there are new guidelines that could require all travelers coming to the u.s. be tested for covid-19 within a day before boarding their flight, and currently those who are fully vaccinated may present a test taken within three days of boarding, and while the white house could ramp up testing requirements, but you may not need to ground your plans just yet. >> i think it's flexible and we have the next couple of weeks where it will tell how much of a the variant is going to be. >> as for oakland, there were 39 cases with the last positive caseworking on october 8th.
5:36 am
here at sfo, there have been 56 cases with the last positive case coming august 31st. we're also getting a count of how many travelers went through tsa during the busy holiday weekend. we were here around thanksgiving and i can tell you it was packed, and the numbers can confirm this is something we saw across the nation. during this past holiday weekend, 2.4 million travelers went through the tsa, and during 2020 that number did not reach 1 million. but prepandemic, 2018, that number was up. we will continue to keep our eye on that variant, of course, as people are making plans for christmas. cierra johnson for "today in the bay." in san francisco, one of the first cities in the country to issue a vaccine mandate for city
