commute in just a bit, but first let's talk about the foggy start, kari. this morning driving in, i was, like, ah-oh. >> we are seeing the fog moving through the tri-valley this morning, livermore, a quarter mile visibility. a foggy start to this friday morning, and then as we go into today we are going t and you can see how dense it is right now. we have concerns of coastal flooding, and they will have a lot of things to watch over the weekend as these temperatures come down. i'll talk more about that as well as looking ahead to our weekend forecast. over here the fremont camera, you don't see fog with

the haze and low clouds hovering. this translates into the road conditions, and there's a road crew that should be clearing up and then coming back all weekend, and we'll talk about that. a smooth flow of traffic to despite the fog continues here. your usual suspects in the east bay. the list growing as omicron is spreading. it's being detected in four other states, and then a second california case detected in san diego county. >> five states are now reporting cases including phupb in minnesota, one in colorado, five in new york, one in hawaii, and

los angeles county is reporting california's second case. and cases around the country urging calm. >> she is experiencing mild symptoms and isolating at home. >> not surprising it showed up. >> we will anticipate more cases. >> this comes as joe biden announces tighter testing requirements for all international travelers coming to the united states, including u.s. citizens returning home. >> we will fight this variant with science and speed. >> president biden is ordering private insurers to cover home antigen testing kits. the current protocol for people who do test positive with the at-home kits is to get a more

quite a while. today it will clear out and be a nice day, but we are also watching out for king tides this weekend with sunshine, and then next weekend rain chances moving in but overall dry. we are seeing cooler air moving in with that patchy dense fog early this morning. we are only going to reach 66 degrees coming down from the low 70s yesterday. >> the antioch bridge and benicia bridge getting dense fog, and heavy fog across highway 37 and in the north bay. the tri-valley is hidden, and vasco will be hit. kari, you showed those low clouds and fog creeping into the south bay and so that's unusual. look at the dublin camera, that demonstrates how low the

day since march closing up more than 600 points, but despite that rally, they are on average. investors expect to see strong job growth and employers boosting wages. google is reconsidering its return to work plans yet again. full-time employees in the u.s. will not head back to the office on january 10th as planned, and that's according to an e-mail on thursday. google will wait until the new year to make decisions on when employees can safely return, but the company goes with the hybrid week model where most employees will work three days in the office and two days remote. and then in less than a day tesla's bike has sold out. it's suitable for anybody 8 years up and old with a top speed of 10 miles per hour and a

seen it here in quite a while. check out the 7-day forecast, it's coming up at the bottom of the screen as you are starting out this morning. we are also going to see still some high tides for the king tides coming in, it's higher astronomical tides due to the gravitational pull of the moon, and this time of year the sun is closest point to the earth and so is the moon and that makes the gravitational pull of the ocean. in parts of the north bay, some of the spots will be under the coastal flood warning and for much of the bay in palo alto, some of the spots along there

could flooding. we will see low 60s for much of the peninsula. 56 in daly city today, and in half moon bay also in the upper 50s. 50s for san francisco from the marina, and the north bay temperatures reaching into the mid-60s this afternoon. as we go into the next several days, it's going to be a little cooler. if you are going out to spots like christmas in the park, make sure you are wearing a warmer coat compared to the day's past. we are still looking at dry weather in the forecast, storm track well to the north of us. the high pressure that kept us dry is moving away, and that's going to allow for more active weather patterns to come in. it shows that a lot of the rain falls apart as it moves closer to the bay area, but at least we are seeing a change in the

pattern, and for that we could put in slight rain chances. before the weekend, we will be dry and we will get a lot of sunshine. mike, you have been watching the impacts of the fog on the morning commute? >> a lot of notes from chp. that's the low clouds here. driving through oakland is fine, but through the oakland hills you will rise up into the clouds and technically the fog will be affecting you there. the dark yellow, the benicia bridge and carquinez bridge, chp calls those out this morning with dense fog. and that low area there, they are raising the roadway and that's a long-term project and won't help today. we could not see much from the dublin camera creeping into fremont, and lower visibility will be a factor.

in the south bay, saw a lot of incidents clustering around 101, and looks like there could be a roadside fire and we're tracking both, of course. no delays here but watching for patchy fog and it could be an issue for folks coming across on 237. back to you. >> thanks, mike. only on nbc bay area, our investigative unit obtained exclusive information about the los gatos mom accused of throwing alcohol-fueled parties for minors including her son. the first allegation came from a parent back in december of 2020, according to internal school e-mails. that parent wrote o'connor would buy alcohol for teens and her daughter overdosed on edibles, and the interim principal responded they would follow-up and inform police, and other

e-mails were sent to the school over the next few months. >> schools are really fighting a battle on two fronts right now. there are a lot of parents who want the schools to back out of parental responsibilities, and the same parents turn around and say to the school, why aren't you dealing with this? >> o'connor is facing 39 felony and misdemeanor charges including sexual battery. she has yet to enter a plea in court and has not responded to our attempts to reach her. an attempted kidnapping outside a preschool in san francisco has parents shaken. it happened on lake wednesday around 3:00. a woman grabbed a 3-year-old from a nanny and ran, and the nanny chased the woman and got

the child back, and then the suspect tried to grab the 1-year-old in the stroller. the baby was belted in. the suspect took off and was later arrested by police. parents walking their kids in the neighborhood say it's shocking. >> shocked. it's terrifying, especially in such a safe and family-friendly neighborhood. i walk these streets all the time with my 6-month-old. >> police searched the neighborhood and arrested the woman and she's in jail for kidnapping and child endangerment. and then mayor ricardo is setting his sights on two more hotels, the quality inn on 13th street and one on actually road are the talks to help the

homeless with emergency housing. the hotels could potentially add 500 housing units. and alec baldwin sharing his side of the story. happening now, college applications are rebounding this year after decreasing the at the height of the pandemic. the total numbers of applications submitted is up 22% from prepandemic levels. that data also shows a big jump in applications from foreign students, up over 40% from prepandemic levels. we'll be right back.
