>> i'm marcus washington. first, let's talk about the rain. meteorologist kari hall has been following that. you told us it was coming. >> it moved through fairly quickly. we're already starting to see the rain taper off further to the north. that will be the trend as we go through the next couple of hours. some of the heaviest rain moving over the mountains and part of the south bay. it's going to be a soggy commute. once this moves out, we are going to be prepping for that atmospheric river set to move in later on for the weekend. in between we have some very chilly temperatures and dry conditions. mike, the big issue is the wet roads out there. >> yeah. you see it here on the san mateo

bridge. this sign says high winds across the bridge. that's what chp warned about. we have the puddling on some of your freeways and the ramps. none are closed right now. a portion of 84 is closed due to road work. we'll talk about when that will reopen. contra costa county looks like they may have the drier roads. still damp because we haven't had the sunshine to dry things outs, but no major issues. happening today, family friends and former colleagues who gathered to remember kevin nishida who retired from the police department and was shot and killed during an attempted robbery in oakland last month. the reward money has grown to $38,000 for information leading to the arrest of the shooter.

services begin at noon at san jose civic center. we will be streaming that live on nbcbayarea.com. in the east bay public officials are raising concern about what they say are bullying tactics by some anti-vaccination activists. >> a board member was stalked by four men. >> the head of the california medical board says the confrontation happened monday night. this is the photo christina lawson shared of four men inside a white suv in a parking structure facing her vehicle. in a series of tweets she describes what she says happened. four men confronted me as i tried to get into any car to drive home. this is a second photo she shared. earlier that morning she says

the men were flying a drone over her house. contra costa county supervisor says these kind of incidents seem to be happening more often. >> unfortunately we're seeing in this country this increased polarization where people are attacking others personally, they're bullying others. we're seeing that as part of information about covid, unfortunately. >> lawson says the men told her they're with america's front line doctors, anti-vaccine group. we reached out to them and received no response. according to walnut creek, police did come to the parking garage and interviewed everyone involved. at the time they found no evidence of a crime and left. but they do say they're classifying it as a suspicious circumstance. dr. richard penn issued a state denouncing the incident and is calling for additional investigation. this harassment is part of a pattern of intimidating people

from doing their jobs and protecting the public. christina lawson says she will not be intimidated. >> that's just one example of rising tensions over proof of vaccine rules. staffs at the paper mill creek saloon in west marin found a note on the front door threatening to burn the place down over vaccine requirements. more than a dozen people who attended a november fund-raiser there are now testing positive for covid. >> i know people who tested positive after that event. i don't want to name names, but it's very frustrating. >> this isn't the only case of threatening notes. another one posted on the door of a san rafael gym which police

are investigating. taking a live look outside from the east bay this morning. in walnut creek we're tracking rain. a welcome sight. very much so. just take it easy as you head out the door, though. how long is this going to stick around? >> this is starting to move out already. this is an overnight early morning rain. the rest of the day is going to be clear and will have a chance to dry out. some of the pockets of heavier rain moving across parts of the south bay and into the east bay. in fremont we are seeing slightly heavier rain but it is getting lighter for spots like palo alto. by 7:00 this rain is starting to clear out. the rest of the day we'll have some sunshine. it's going to be a very chilly day and even colder for tonight. some spots deal with some frost as well as freezing temperatures. we'll get to that as well as the next system that will be coming

in. mike, you were tracking a closure in fremont. >> the nimitz is fine. this is fremont. gusty winds from time to time. nothing major again. but the closure continues for highway 84. en we're looking at the typical overnight closure for that canyon. slowing just around ruby hill. we have puddling potential down here in san jose. then things moving north as damp roadways and slicker conditions possible. be careful. no longer a death row inmate. still ahead, scott peterson has been resentenced. however, the reason why his case is far from over. the latest silicon valley company to postpone the return to office date. also the bonus some of those employees get for staying home.

forecast. >> we see san jose where we have some rain. if you look closely, you can see the water kicking up as cars travel by. taking a close look at travel. stocks are set to open slightly lower this morning on the heels of three straight days of gain. markets have rallied in recent days. equities got a boost wednesday morning after pfizer and biontech said a booster dose of their covid-19 vaccine provides a high level of protection against the omicron variant. in focus today, a report on jobless claims or the number of americans filing for unemployment benefits. apple will not have to make changes to its in app payment system for now.

those changes would have allowed users to change payment options. the judge ordered apple to stop preventing developers from linking to payment options. apple had until today to make those changes but an appeals court granted the company more time while they appeal the original ruling. the stay temporarily protects apple's control over its app store and the fees it generates until the appeal is decided. all of google's employees globally including the company's extended workforce and interns will get a one-time cash bonus of $1600 this year. a company spokesperson told reuters that is in addition to its well-being bonus. google earlier expected employees to return to the office starting january 10th, but now will wait until the new

in the south county. it is going to be a cool day in the mid to upper 50s this afternoon. it will be very chilly tonight with freezing temperatures in some spots. never leave your pets outside, especially in these wet and cold conditions. also check your car tire pressure, because that may go down with cool temperatures. we're going to have a dry weekend, chilly temperatures. we talked about frost and freezing conditions. this is ahead of the next atmospheric river coming in. it could be the biggest storm we

have since october when we had all of that rain. this is what we know right now. the timing is from sunday into tuesday. we are going to see the possibility of some of that really heavy rain moving in. once again, as we go through the forecast, the timing is from tuesday to wednesday that we could see this lingering into the weekend. looking at the rainfall totals that could reach from 3-4 inches farther to the north. we usually get less rainfall in the valleys as well as some heavy sierra snow on the way. rainfall totals may reach quite high at this point. they're really going up. a possibility of over 7 inches of rain in the santa cruz mountains. for the sierra we're getting light snow right now, but it could be heavy going into next week. it just continues to go up. this would be quite amazing if we saw this. take a look at kingdale, 94

inches of snow in the next week. that is unbelievable, but we've seen it happen before. going into our weekend forecast, chilly and dry with all of that rain next week and cool weather in san francisco. now let's get to our climate hack. washing dishes is something you can't avoid, but how about using something more eco-friendly as far as the products you use. >> it may not be my favorite thing to do, but it's got to get done, the dreaded dishes. now, i'm not using plastic silverware, but i am using a plastic sponge. that's a problem.
