strain. this is "today in the bay." a very good tuesday morning to you. thanks so much for joining us. i am laura garcia. >> i am marcus washington. we are going to get a look at the commute and start off with meteorologist, kari hall. >> we are getting ready for a storm that we have been talking about. here it is off the coast further to the north of here and we will see the storm system arriving later on today. you can see the timeline. here we are at 3:30, and it's starting to spread into the rest of the bay area with light to moderate rain. there also will be gusty winds in the mix and that will continue into tomorrow. a lot more moisture moving into tomorrow and that rain continues, and we will talk about that and how much rain we

can expect in a few minutes. coming out to the report i did notice this pop-up right here, a little hazard. it looks like we are getting a little delay along northbound 880 from an earlier crash, but that icon changed from a crash to this check mark so that means it could be slowing as they work to clear the scene. westbound 580 from grant line road, you are looking at 16 minutes. i will have a closer look at how your bay bridges are doing, or your bridges throughout the bay, i should say. this is inside the oakridge mall forcing shoppers to shelter in stores. >> it happened about 6:00 last night at oakridge mall.

luckily nobody was hurt. ian explains what police are trying to figure out. >> police escorted people out of the building after shots were fired outside, and it happened near the forever 21 store. >> it was a very chaotic scene for the first arriving officers. >> one of my associates was panicking, why is everybody running, and oh, no, now i have to evacuate the store. >> she rushed to get her kugs customers and employees out the backdoor. >> we can't barricade in our store and i quickly got the keys and evacuated. >> we know there was a shooting and we are still looking for a suspect. >> it's unclear if anybody was hit. they obtained surveillance video

but are not releasing what they saw. they appear to say it appears to be an isolated incident and was not an active shooter incident. officers were checking stores in the mall. >> we expect to encounter just a lot of innocent people that caught in the mess and there still could be an armed saul is that correct and we are not going to give the all clear until we searched every corner of the mall. >> it was just over a month ago the great mall in milpitas after shots were reported and it was just a fight. the investigation into who fired the shots continues. ian cole, today in the bay. adds the nation today about employing

million people plan to travel 50 miles or more this holiday season. kari, we have an incoming storm and it's cool once again. >> yes, it is. we are starting out with temperatures in the 30s as you are stepping out the door in the tri-valley. we're at 40 in fairfield. we will see the rain starting to move in by early in the afternoon. first in the north bay and then spreading across the bay area with off and on showers that will continue through tonight. some of the heavier rein starts to surge in tomorrow afternoon into thursday, but you can see there's rain that will continue thursday into friday and even into the christmas holiday. we will see temperatures this morning starting out in the low 40s. we need a heavier coat and peeks of sunshine for the start of the day, but it will be another cool one. then we are getting ready for

slowly making it closer to the 50s by late morning into the afternoon. eventually we are headed for 58 degrees in san josé. east san josé reaching 57 because it takes longer for the rain to get here. we will see temperatures only reaching 53 in walnut creek and oakland and 52 in livermore. we'll see a high of 55 in half moon bay, and 51 in the marina district. the temperatures will be lower here as the rain gets here first. you want to make sure you are getting everything ready for you head out for work, your wind shield wipers are working well and everything around the house is settled. notice the center of the storm, this area of low pressure here. we can see that connection all the way down to the tropics, and

that's why we call it a atmospheric river, it brings in the tropical moisture. both of these systems meeting up together, we will have gusty winds later this afternoon into the evening. it will be breezy heading into early tomorrow, but that rain basically continues and we will see widespread showers throughout the next several days into christmas day. taking a look at the one-week out look for rainfall, notice this is over the course of a whole week. we could see two to three possibly four inches of rain. the sierra could possibly see six to nine feet of snow in some spots. it could be really high up above 7,000 feet. rain begins this afternoon, gusty winds, and the rain for the most part an inch and a half to three plus inches. some of the higher spots will be

the santa cruz mountains, and sierra snow four to eight feet, but there could be spots that get a little more. we are preparing for the storm that will continue through monday most likely. we are going to see not rain the entire time. there will be some breaks, but a chance of rain in basically every day's forecast. of course we will keep you up-to-date on all that. vianey, what are you watching for in the commute? >> i have looked at some things that recently popped out, including this wrench, a stalled vehicle as you are getting on the bay bridge toll plaza. green on the traffic map means go. no slowdowns right now. in oakland, there's still tow truck activity on 880. westbound 580 to grant line, 21
