that sets us up nicely for dr. rochelle walensky, the director of the cdc dr. walensky, good morning to you. >> good morning, craig good to be back with you >> president biden insisted on tuesday that this was nothing like march of 2020, but here you have long lines and testing sites, you've got broadway shows shutting down, sports leagues hitting pause, holiday parties being canceled a lot of folks all worried what do you say this morning to all the people who are panicking right now? >> yeah. things are moving quickly. so let me back up and tell us where we are because there really is no need to panic so we now know that about 73% of cases in the united states now are omicron. and that we expected this because we have seen the doubling times of this virus in other countries have been really rapid and that's what we're seeing here in the united states and that really was the motivation for the president and the administration's action right now and those actions

7:11 am

7:14 am
airbus issued a rare joint call for the government and cell phone industry to postpone the rollout, warning 5g coul interfere with critical cockpit technology the cell phone industry says there's no reason to delay the rollout, telling nbc news 5g networks operate safely without interference in nearly 40 countries around the world, and it will be no different here but pilot organizations, airlines and members of congress share the concern that 5g can interfere with the plane's altimeters >> if you're coming down in zero visibility and your radio altimeter is off, you might go boom into the ground >> the faa issued an air worthiness directive for pilots starting in january. no using the altimeter when coming in for a landing in bad weather and close to a 5g site, the airlines are warning that could disrupt the travel plans for americans across the country.
