hill at 43. i will gol into full details of what we are tracking coming up in my full forecast. kira. >> we'll see you in about 15. elaborate christmas lights display have been dazzling neighbors for years but it's dark now. the city pulled the plug. sergio quintana has the story. >> reporter: this is the video of the massive display eric haake usually builds outside his home. he wishes he could have done it this year. >> i look forward to this. >> reporter: during the hype of the pandemic, his display became wildly popular drawing a lot of people and traffic. that turned out to be too much for others living near by. >> there is as few grinches

called the city and it got cancelled. >> reporter: the city committee relations sent us a statement saying this road way design when combined with the number of visitors driving by the display created significant traffic congestion which led to numerous complaints being made by the city. we talked to a lot of people throughout the evening but they complain the display is gone. >> i am so mad. >> we are too. >> reporter: how have it been each year? >> wonderful, it's better and better and we all come over here. he never charged nothing. nothing. >> reporter: she's one of several people who cruise over expecting to see lights. the house is dark tonight but that has not stopped people coming by hoping to see a display which unfortunately didn't happen this year. eric haake says he spends upward of $100,000 on his display.

>> do you want to do this next year. >> i would love to. i am trying to put some conversations together with city council and the mayor to see what we can do to help this, actually to keep going. >> reporter: hakes is trying to rally support. it's disappointing that he could not turn on his light this year. sergio quintana, "today in the bay." a deadly shark attack on the central coast, it happened yesterday at a beach known as the pitch. the boogie border was pulled out of the water. the 31-year-old did not survive. people will not be allowed in the water at that beach today.

and fatal shark attacks are fairly rare in california. the last one happened in 2020 off the coast of santa cruz in june last year. there were two other notable attacks in the bay area, one in june. both of the victims in those attacks in bodega bay did survive. a public work employee saw it happen just after helping people stranded in a different car. investigators say the victim drove into the hill high water

before the flash flood fill the under pass in just 30 seconds. the water was too high for first responders to help. the victims have been identified as suzanne and lonzo glorioso, both in their 60s. we take you to a live look at sfo. holiday air travel is typically stressful but especially stressful on this christmas day on this omicron variant serging. this comes after nearly 500 flights cancelled across the u.s. yesterday alone. jean ellie shows us the impact at sfo. >> reporter: the last minute rush to get home for the holiday stalled for some passengers. airlines and staffing levels are dropping. many airlines cancelling

of a break since the evening. we'll see this pushing through today, pushing through nevada and the valley. san francisco we'll get light to moderate at times and right now milpitas getting a little bit of that rain starting to move into the san jose area. as far as temperatures go, right now we are in the 40s and the 50s to start and we are not going to warm up by much this afternoon. here is a closer look at your daytime highs. a colder day today, we'll top out about 52 degrees for san jose, 52 in san francisco and upper 40s for areas like santa rosa and 48 degrees. napa, 49. let's talk about the rain and what we are monitoring heading into this afternoon. we are going to expect sort of this on and off again all day long, widespread rain, notice the time stamp here at about 5:30. we get also still a ton of sierra snow.

we'll continue all the way through tonight. it's expected to get a lot colder heading into sunday and monday, that could mean some snow for local hill tops area. we could see a chance of isolated flooding. the concern here is it has been raining so much that a lot of the soils is really loose out there. that could make quicker concerns when it comes to flooding and small hail, there is plenty of instability with colder storm where we could see thunderstorm activities. as far as rain totals go. anywhere from a quarter of an inch to higher. pushing through christmas day and into sunday. we have a pretty active weather pattern, i want to give you a quick look at lake tahoe. look out for those windows of opportunity right now, we are still expecting to see gusty winds and that snowstorm moving in. you don't want to head out. heading into today and monday,

deepest discounts happening in january. >> if your plan is to hold off until after the holidays to buy those must-have items, you may be out of luck. thanks to inflation and supply chain issues we have been reporting on for months. >> it made a huge impact on industries all over the place whether we are talk about clothing or electronic and just a constant thing all year so we are seeing the ramifications of that. >> reporter: consumer analyst told us stores are expected to offer less clearance items due to lack of inventory. we'll see after christmas sales, we'll see these items discounted, we just maybe seeing fewer of them overall and the discount may not be as sale of goods. black friday deals were not as generous. retailers still saw customers willing to pay more to get what they want.
