fraser park. we have a wintry mix in that area and it can get slick. more noticeably, look at this, this is in our local bay area mountain tops. look at the wintry mix. we are starting to expect seeing more snow falling when we see the temperatures really take a dip. right now we are in the 30s for most of the bay area. napa, 38. 39 in oakland. the windchill factor, not too windy. if it feels like it's in the 30s, it's in the 30s considering there's no wind, right? 43 in san josé. the wind will pick up heading into the next couple of days. i will talk about the rain season update and what to expect into new year's eve coming up in a few minutes.

first, mike has breaking news to tell us about. >> yeah, you see the flashing lights and no lights south of here. there's the overpass for willow road. that's where traffic is stopped on the southbound side. northbound, we see it flowing. we got word of a deadly crash involving a motorcycle and van. activity in the middle of southbound 101, that's a problem. our camera at university saw the camera clear at that point. if you are on university headed to the south, you will be forced off at march, you can go down this way and take middlefield. sad news to start our morning

over in minute low park. the route through the sierra was shutdown for more than 24 hours because of the record snow. it's really a good thing right now because caltrans says the road is back open. you know what? chains are required for any cars headed that way. >> 50 is back open, but i-80 is still closed. there's no word on what it will reopen. >> commuters are in the cold. another day of cold temperatures out there with thousands going without power. >> brittany hope continues our coverage from placerville. >> those not able to leave public pines are coming here. the shell gas station, gathering supplies for a night without power in below-freezing temperatures. a vital tool for warmth is

good morning. unfortunately we have bad news on the peninsula for drivers and specifically for a couple people involved here in this crash. looking overall, we have green sensors and that means you are at speed but be careful coming down the peninsula. traffic is forced off of southbound 101 at march because of a deadly crash at the willow

over crossing. that's where the chp activity is. if you come down towards university you are well clear of the crash there. you can take bay front express. take a look at our palo alto camera. you can see from time to time these cars coming past. what i think is people are getting off at marsh. be prepared not to use 101 through that crash because of a deadly crash. the coroner has been called. we will track that as far as the progress goes. green sensors once again as we look at the wider view, and the pink and white means a chance of icy conditions and perhaps a little snow. cold out there. >> yeah, be careful out there especially for some of the

interior sheltered valleys. we have an active radar still. if you are traveling down to southern california the next couple of days, check your travel conditions. this blue and pink mix you see here is a wintry mix. we are expecting showers to pick up around 7:00 a.m., and as the showers pick up, that's more likely to see some of the elevation snow here below the 2,000 mark. showers continue through today. look at your daytime highs. barely any 50s at the map. we will top out in the upper 40s. overall, oakland 47 degrees. these are our daytime highs, guys, not lows. i want to take you through the timeline here. we are going to be cloudy and cold, which is the reason we are

seeing a little shower activity. by tonight showers are going to roll through and those snow levels are going to near the 2,500 mark, especially through the north bay. the rain estimate, we are going to pick up a couple 0.01 of an inch. this active weather pattern will continue over the next couple of days. you may want to hold off a little longer in the south lake tahoe conditions. there was a winter storm warning and they downgraded that into wednesday morning, but it's still going to be icy and they are working to clear the roads and your best bet is to wait until friday when we see things really calm down. it's going to be cold on new year's eve night, so if you plan to be out and about, expect low 30s right around that midnight hour. i will send it back to you -- no, wait, i have climate in
