to your tv but you can take us with you on the go with your roku, amazon fire, apple tv and online. good tuesday morning to you, thanks for joining us, i'm chris sanchez. >> let's get a start of your forecast. vianey arana is in for kari this morning. >> we're starting out a little chilly in the 40s right now. 41 degrees in walnut creek, and this is a live look now. not everyone is seeing fog, and that disturbance that sort of pushed in through yesterday is now sort of out of the area. we don't have to worry about that, but we do have some limited visibility, down to about a half a mile in see na rosa. a quarter of a mile through novato. the majority of the fog is through the north bay. down to the south bay we're doing okay with visibility. no big issues there. when it comes to your temperatures for this afternoon, we're going to start out in the 40s. once again expect a good mix of sun and clouds by about 9:00, 10:00, notice the temperature trend is going to bump up into

those 50s. now let's get a check of the roads with mike. >> very easy drive right now over on the left side of your screen -- oh, you can't see it. let's take the map to full, on the left side of your screen above where it says sunnyvale there's a minor crash, it's moved to the shoulder, heading over to el camino. evelyn is the off ramp that's closed. the rest of the bay very clear. fog north of santa rosa, you see it there, that yellow portion. watch 101, no problems reported. no delays right now. a dosing mix-up is impacting about 4,000 kaiser members at the walnut creek facility. >> anybody who got their pfizer dose at the end of october at that facility all the way to the first week of december may have gotten the wrong dose. >> we are learning that there wasn't enough of it in the syringe. you have protection, maybe not enough. michelle herd has more on what

steps members can take. >> kaiser patients are being notified that they may not have gotten enough vaccine. kaiser officials releasing a statement saying as a trust the health care provider, we are we are committed to informing patients of circumstances that could affect them, even if any potential impact is not considered significant as in this matter. in this situation, there's a possibility that close to 4,000 kaiser members who got shots in walnut creek between october 25th and december 10th did not receive up to four micrograms of the pfizer vaccine. 30 micrograms is the recommended dose. kaiser says the difference between the recommended dose and the dose an ridge may have received is not significant and will still protect against covid-19. >> some people got 26 micrograms, but it's still pretty high of a dose. it wasn't so low that they got like ten micrograms or something

very low, so they're right that it's probably going to still create the same immune response . >> patients who got the moderna or johnson & johnson vaccines are not affected. adi is a kaiser member and believes mistakes are being made because of staffing. >> kaiser and many other hospital systems are under staffed because they haven't returned back to norm. >> this isn't the first time bay area patients have been given improper doses of covid-19 vaccines. it happened in november at a pediatric clinic in antioch, and it happened last march at the vax clinic at the oakland coliseum. kaiser says this was an isolated incident because of a training issue, and the hospital says anyone affected can get another shot if they want. hospital officials say that they are closely monitoring the situation to make sure that this doesn't happen again. cheryl hurd, today in the bay.

back to school for students in the east bay. more than 1,200 students are planning a boycott and demanding better covid safety protocols. this is being organized by three sophomore students at met west high school, that's a small school downtown oakland. the petition was signed by more than 1,200 students from various schools, and the students say they want the district to move classes to online instruction. they are also asking for pcr and rapid testing twice a week as well as kn95 masks and n95 masks for all students. the district released a settlement saying we are already meeting or in the process of meeting most of the demands noted in this petition. we will continue to work towards fulfilling the rest in the coming weeks. we thank our students for staying in front of these issues and bringing their concerns to district lineup. late last night we learned staff members at three other oakland elementary schools will be participating in a sickout including accord woodland, bridges academy and united for success academy. >> also in the east bay,

students in hayward are set to return back to in-person learning after spending a week online to avoid spreading covid and because of staffing and testing shortages. hayward unified say it has enough masks for all staff and surgical masks for students. the district and the alameda health department believe students are safer from covid inside the classroom. we'll continue our coverage online. you can head to nbcbayarea.com. we have a link in the trending bar and we break down what you need to know about testing and masks and vaccine mandates. more nurses plan to gather in san francisco for a woman killed in a random and violent attack in new york city. 40-year-old michelle go died saturday after a man shoved her in front of a subway train at the times square station. that suspect there on your screen is now in custody. investigators so far do not believe this was a hate crime. go was born in the bay area.

year. tech has been hit especially hard with the sector falling more than 4%. and focused earnings from goldman sachs. toyota is cutting production in february by about 150,000 vehicles citing the global semiconductor chip shortage, the world's biggest automaker says it will still build 700,000 cars worldwide next month, more than last year but less than initially planned. demand remains strong but it will suspend operations at some plants in japan throughout february. and ford is ramping up its e-commerce business. it struck a deal with stripe to process transactions for orders and reservations, handle financing for commercial customers, and route payments to local dealers. the tie-up is part of ford's larger restructuring plan which includes investing $30 billion in electric vehicles. back to you. >> all right, thank you. more problems for the nation of tonga, days after that powerful volcanic eruption.

good morning, good morning, looking over here at the live cameras. we see a very calm drive. we'll talk about that in a second. let's take you out to the maps where we see the green dominating the map. the crash 237 where is actually in sunniville, that is on the shoulder. no slowing there for the south bay. peninsula great, east bay, tri valley and no major problems. an earlier crash on the right side of your screen right around north flynn on the shoulder. danville right behind the n in danville, 680, no major injuries. there may be an injury to a deer but no humans are injured there. no lanes blocked. the bay bridge toll plaza looks great. our view from emeryville, we'll show you a live look. even though there's fog in the

north bay, novato, north of san rafael, we're looking at a clear drive and a clear view, look at that beautiful shot in the city where all those lights are. great drive. mike, we are on the same page. look at the shot i picked. look at that, we both agreed it's really pretty. and mike was talking about the traffic with it. it is a beautiful shot. it really showcases the lights and the weather. we do have some fog through parts of the north bay as well, but let's take a look right now at satellite and radar. as you know, we had a cut off low from the south that brought a little bit of sprinkle activity. a lot of it didn't make it to the ground. we can still spot some of it mainly over central california. that's going to make for a humid day down through monterey and also, the temperatures are going to remain mild. no major changes in the temperatures, but it is a little chilly through novato right now. it's about 39 degrees. we did drop down into the 30s. santa rosa 44, san jose 44 degrees, and let's take a look at your fog and visibility. down to a quarter of a mile for

santa rosa and novato and napa. it's very focused through the north bay. the rest of the bay area is doing okay when it comes to the fog. forecasted highs for today, we are going to get afternoon sun. it's not going to be as cloudy as it was in some spots yesterday, and our daytime highs are going to be a little cooler up to the north bay, but very similar down through the south bay. 62 degrees in san jose, 60 degrees in concord. 58 degrees in oakland, 57 in san francisco, and 59 degrees in napa. your air quality outlook, we're going to remain moderate for the most part. i did see a bump in the north bay to 82. this stays within the frame of moderate between 51 and 100 for the air quality index. we should be okay there as well as the long range outlook, that dry pattern still continues, but heading into tonight and into tomorrow, we are expecting to see some of that wind start to kick up, especially for the higher elevation areas in the mountains. so by sunday, that high pressure continues to dominate.

it rolls back in in strength. over the next seven days, no big changes in the forecast. we stay consistent tuesday, wednesday, thursday, look at the daytime highs in the upper 50s. if you're looking ahead already into next weekend, this is where we're going to really see the wind pick up. it's going to get breezy, getting really gusty as well by early saturday morning. we'll keep a close eye on that. we're going to head over to our climate in crisis, and of course you heard about that volcanic eruption off the island in tonga. that volcano sent tsunami warnings and advisories across the west coast. the powerful underwater volcano impacted much of the pacific rim. scientists have known that large volcanic eruptions can have an immediate and perhaps a year long impact on global climate. as scientists work to understand the phenomenon, the early data from this weekend' eruption indicated it was too small to have a telling impact on climate change. according to scientists, volcano sulfates are particularly good at impacting global climate

change unlike man made emissions that remain in the atmosphere for days and weeks on end. during a massive eruption, the sulfur dioxide gets lofted, many times miles into the stratosphere, high above where most weather happens and can remain there for months to years. mount pinatuba resulted in a global temperature decline of one degree fahrenheit during the year following its eruption. for more climate change stories just like this one, check out our climate in crisis tab at nbcbayarea.com. we give you a lot of useful information and of course your bay area hot spots where you can make a difference. things are not getting easier for tonga, now volcanic ash from that eruption is delaying aid to the nation. new zealand's military trying to bring supplies but they can't make the trip because of ash on the runways. some in the bay area are

preparing to help the people impacted there. oakland's sf enterprises sends freight almost exclusively to tonga. the company hoping to coordinate soon with the official relief agencies in those countries, but it's due to extremely limited communication that's been really difficult. others are concerned about tonga setting up -- others concerned about tonga are setting up go fund me sites. 4:51, and back here at home, we have new video showing the moments before armed robbers stole that little french bulldog there in castro valley. two women walking their dog tito over the weekend when seconds later thieves jumped out of a stolen suv, pointed their gun at them and demanded the women hand over the dog. the robbers also stole one of the victim's purses and then went to her home and stole her car later. residents are now starting a neighborhood watch. >> the dog situation with the gun pointed at their heads was the final straw for me.
