we're broadcasting on your television, but we're not only there. you can join us live on roku, amazon fire, appear many tv and online. let's get you started with this wednesday morning and take a look at the forecast. meteorologist vianey arana in for kari this morning. >> thick fog, especially the north bay and down through parts of the south bay. look at san jose, down to about a quarter of a mile in visibility. there's some stretches where you won't get any fog and then there are other areas where you can barely make out what's in front of you. in through napa, as well as the oakland area, san carlos, half moon bay and fog in san francisco. it's also really cold. temperatures are starting out in the 30s in a lot of spots, including morgan hill, 37 degrees, livermore 37, napa 38. so even though we've got a cool start, we are expecting a mild afternoon. temperatures trending upwards into the 50s and eventually a

couple of mid-60s in through the interior valleys. look at walnut creek, about 38 degrees, once we get some of the fog clearing and sunshine, we do eventually warm up nicely into the afternoon. let get a check of the roads. >> we're looking at -- well, we're trying to look at 101 in palo alto. there's a lot of fog and it's crept down the peninsula and crept down farther onto the roadway here as we're looking from the rooftop camera, just about university avenue. you see palo alto near the top of the screen, 101, the highlighted yellow is where it's going to be tougher to see through the south bay, 101, 237, down to 85 and parts of 280. watch all along the peninsula and throughout the east bay, many patches. we have no major problems as far as flow goes. there's a crash at the sycamore off ramp.

there's a stall near san quentin that does not affect the richmond bridge. back over to you. >> thanks for following that for us, mike. breaking news we're following right now. police activity at a home in san jose, near raging waters. officers have had their weapons drawn. they were seen going into and out of a home starting at about 2:00 in the morning. we've reached out to police and as soon as they give us any details, we'll pass them along to you. a follow-up for you, city of san jose passing a first of its kind gun law. gun owners will soon have to pay an annual fee and keep liability insurance. >> and gun right advocates are already planning for lawsuits. >> reporter: san jose passing a controversial gun law. 50 people on both sides speaking at the city council meeting on the so-called gun harm reduction

ordinance. >> insurance will incentivize safer firearm practices. gun injuries and deaths have gotten out of hand in the united states. >> you cannot tax a constitutional right. this does nothing to stop crime. >> reporter: the ordinance requires gun owners to pay an annual fee of $25 and they must have liability insurance in the event their gun is used in some crimes or by accident. it affects an estimated 50,000 households in san jose that have a gun. >> it's easy to say this isn't going to stop a crook whose intent is to kill somebody. i challenge somebody to magically craft an ordinance that will. it doesn't exist. but we can reduce gun harm when we see the ex spans of gun harm and how broad it is. >> reporter: it has been met with strong opposition from gun rights advocates. the firearms policy coalition says in a statement if san jose adopts mayor liccardo's outrageous and unconstitutional gun control proposals, we will not hesitate to challenge the

policies in federal litigation and take every possible action to block their enforcement. moving forward, would the law hold up in court? i spoke with margaret russell, a constitutional law professor at santa clara university. >> it's a restriction but it's not a ban and the supreme court has held that there can be some regulations. >> reporter: she says since it's a first of its kind law, it could go to the supreme court. >> that's certainly possible. i think those that are against it are hoping to do that. >> reporter: mayor liccardo spoke with us in-depth on why he's pushing for the legislation. you can see it on our bay area streaming app. turning to the pandemic, with omicron cases on the decline, the question is, could we soon see bay area counties

begin to roll back restrictions? san francisco mayor london breed is hopeful that the city will soon come out of this surge. >> i am so ready to open the city and just open the gates and have a good time. and as we see the surge begin to decline, i'm hopeful that people will start going out again, they'll go see a show, they'll go to the movies, go to our restaurants. and we hope that the department of public health, but of course we're following state guidelines around mask wearing right now, we hope that those mask wearing restrictions will began to be rolled back, similarly to how we did when we saw the last surge go down. >> the current situation in san francisco, you can see the cases peaked about two weeks ago. since then the average has dropped35%. a tentative agreement has been reached between reachers in

the federal reserve. the fed wraps up its two-day meeting this afternoon. we're not expecting them to announce a rate hike today, but they will likely signal that the first move could come as soon as march as they try to combat inflation. also in focus today, we're getting a report on new home sales. we've gotten earnings so far from at&t and boeing, better than expected, and we await intel and tesla this afternoon. meantime, bentley is going electric. the luxury british automaker will start production of its first fully electric car in 2025 and spend more than $3 billion to exclusively offer electric vehicles by 2030. bentley, which is owned by volkswagen, already sells a hybrid suv, $460,000. bentley says sales rose 31% last year on strong demand for high-end vehicles. and it's 5:00 somewhere, right? it's okay to talk about cocktails at this hour.

good wednesday morning. it is 4:47, and you're not going to be able to miss it in you're in the south bay, that's the fog, or the north bay. even near oakland and the concord area seeing some fog building through there. this is a live look in san jose and this is probably what you're seeing outside your window if you live in downtown, because that's what this is supposed to be a shot of. because the fog is so dense, you can't see what's behind it. visibility down to about a quarter of a mile in san jose, even less than that through the north bay, including napa, santa rosa and the oakland area as

well. san francisco down to about 2 1/2 miles of visibility. now, as far as your tem going t cold start again today. dublin 36 degrees, morgan hill 37. in the 30s, expect that to linger, but san francisco 47 degrees, very foggy. the temperature trend stays in the 50s for the first half of the day and walnut creek right now is about 38 degrees. so how is the rest of the bay area going to be into the afternoon? 65 degrees in san jose, it's going to be just a couple degrees warmer in some spots compared to yesterday, but very similar. similar to what we had monday and tuesday. 64 in walnut creek, some areas could see breezy winds through the afternoon around the peninsula, redwood city 61. through san francisco, 61 for mission, up through the north bay. novato 64. now, as far as the forecasted

weather, the dry weather is expected to remain through the remainder of your workweek. we've still got high pressure dominating our forecast. on sunday we do have an approaching system just to our north that could bring us a very slight chance of seeing a little bit of activity, mainly to the north bay, farther up northern california near eureka, sunday into monday. so no big rain chances. if it does move in, that would be late sunday into monday for far northern california, napa, maybe santa rosa. we'll monitor it as it gets closer because it could stay further up north. as far as the chilly mornings, we'll see it thursday, friday and saturday, overnight lows in the 30s for inland areas. san francisco, seven-day outlook will remain dry heading into saturday, and even into sunday. if we do get any chance of shower activity, it will be really late sunday into monday. the high pressure will continue to dominate and that's going to

keep us mainly dry through the end of the week. now let's get a check of the roads with mike. >> you're talking about the fog and it is a major factor. now, for this map i'm going to show you, you see it throughout the north bay but it's crept down through richmond the last few days. it will do the same today. i do want to take a moment to remind folks that if you're traveling north through vallejo avoid this stretch that's red and take the alternate going out of vallejo, full closure for the project over there related to the six bridges project. meanwhile, the fog really dense. palo alto, santa clara, mountain view, cupertino, we're all seeing patches. despite the widespread fog in some places, we'll check dublin where we have a clear view of the roadway and no problems getting out of the altamont pass. back to you. >> thank you very much.

pulled my firearm. >> reporter: bhatti says one of the suspects pointed a gun at him. no one fired and the suspects took off. bhatti believes the same group came back monday night and hit the gym company. workers were cleaning up class. >> two customers were screaming. >> reporter: a witness who doesn't want to be identified, says the men used sledge hammers to smash the glass, while terrified employees and customers screamed. >> i feel totally unsafe. >> reporter: bhatti says he and his employee are scared at work. he says something must change to restore a sense of safety. >> the lawmakers need to do something. we really need protection. this is not the way we run our business, we are already struggling. >> reporter: struggling to make ends meet and protect his small business.
